Jarse me old mate!

Work??? I just fly for the fun of it - guess that's why I haven't left yet (I have come close a couple of times though).

Hope to catch up with you on 12th or 13th, if you are around that late, otherwise, I will be in touch electronically.

My guess is that they will be CRJ900/1000s, with an interim fill by B717s, if the E-Jets start taking too much market share in the short to mid term.
Bit confused here...

How will this affect the recent and ongoing Q400 acquisitions - or are these jets then supposedly for different routes/strategies?

There is no strategy. But rumour is they did just recently allow a senior FO back from the Oasis complete with his old seniority number. Opens up a can of worms if its true.

And there was a captain who came back last year after a very brief stint in the sand pit, although he had to come back at the bottom of the list as an f/o (as it should be).

Ah yes...that Seniority chestnut. Working to make sure that once you leave, there is no chance you'll be back unless absolutely desperate. And also making sure that QL can't access experienced captains.

I assume the captain referenced above won't be hanging around for long when he/she can just as easily get on the bottom of the seniority list with another company for better pay.

Q4NVS,

No suggestion of any strategy. Just the application of Newton's third law of motion!

Krusty...
Now having said that, I heard today (2nd hand of course) that QFLink management have finally come to realise the peril they are in, and are set to offer their pilot group Terms and Conditions on par with those at DJ! This is not a wind up, but something that was mentioned to me.

Any current QFLink pilots heard anything?
maybe, maybe not.

I think DJ Embraer like pay would really help end the exodus. I just cant see NK backing down. Also Sunnies have an EBA due very soon so I also dont see management offering anything until then. We can still dream however...

Who knows, the sunnies EBA could get up like the eastern one with 53%???

Bet those that voted for the Eastern EBA are now asking the question as to why.

What a shame that someone who is in the company for a short time and often off to big brother can vote! Is this how the Eastern EBA got up??

EBA's are a furfie! If management truely had a grasp of this situation, then they would have acted long before.

During the last EAA discusions, a package was put to QLink management that would have gone a long way to restoring some faith. Management in their ultimate wisdom rejected it almost completely. The Pilot negotiating team expressed doubt as to whether such a substandard document would be accepted. Strangely enough the package was accepted, and do you know why? Because the majority of QLink pilots do not see themselves working there in 12 months, so why bother fighting! Management, again in their ultimate wisdom probably thought they had a major win, whereas an opportinity to save their business was idiotically rejected!

Does anyone think the Sunstate EBA will be any different?

The REX EBA is being negotiated as we speak. My guess is the result will also be the same.

Another Band-aid

Qantaslink are putting Alliance F-100's on the BNE-MKY service from June-ish. This will add an extra 30 odd seats per day.

Jarse................I am really thinking about following you now. This approach to running our airline is really getting beyind a joke.

Speedjet, I had a bit of a chuckle (but was also slightly surprised) to see all that green highlighter on the Sunstate seniority list on the Canberra crew room wall.

Nefarious, I wouldn't follow me because I'm always lost

Captain Stoobing (the real one) With your skills you have so much more to offer outside your current position. One should certainly be considering broadening one's horizons in the current climate.

As I wrote previously: Eastern and Sunstate will always be the prop operators in Qantaslink.

See you soon, Stoobs

Actually Crank, 17.3 hours a week flight time at EAA or SSA is 34 hours duty, as the flight/duty time ratio is about 1:2. With rosters that give you 8 days off a month, 2 of which are single days, and you get to work 6 days in a row, and you get a shift worker's lifestyle (odd hours) I can think of a huge number of jobs that pay more than 50k. And they're all ones that don't cost you 100k to train yourself to get.

The "up and comers", as you put it, would be well advised to be well informed before making sweeping statements that pilots get paid 50k for 17 hours work a week.

Thumbs down

Take out 6 weeks annual leave- no additional pay for working on public holidays so the extra two weeks is time in lieu- and you're up to 19.6 stick for the week which means a 39 hour work week using Ron's numbers. Simulators, Security and EPs are on top of that- one day less free from duty every two months. Don't forget that most other shift workers also have an RDO a month and normally get to go home every night/day.

You're right, there is not many shift working professions that make you stay away from home a couple nights a week that only pay $50K. Most of them pay a truck load more than that!

This was confirmed on ABC radio this morning. As the QANTASLink service had been discontinued a couple of months ago, this puts back an additional 100 seats each way.

More management lies.

Sunstate still operate Mackay services and an overnight. One morning service was dropped a couple of weeks ago due lack of crew. Railroaded again.

North Eastern crew have now totally disengaged and MD has been caught with his pants down deliberately lieing in writting to crew.

This EBA promises to be a beauty of a battle.

I believe if this is correct, Alliance placing their F 100's on these routes it indicates Qantaslink will never get any jet operation, it will constantly be farmed out to other operators.

Which then begs the question what is the point in staying?

There are still a number of Qantaslink captains that have been given the nod from Virgin and are still undecided if to go or not, I think this final decision will convince them the only decision is to leave.
