Angry

6 months will be too late for this circus. They are about to lose 15% of their NSW captains to their opposition and still they sit on their hands. Why does the Qantas board not know of the negligence and incompetence of the present management that is allowing this to happen?
Why isnt the 3 ring circus (NK, PL, MD) held accountable for the demise of this airline?

See youse!

About to get very interesting at Sunnies with over 30% of pilot group having offers from VB with start dates through to Aug. Two are very senior C&T and some others Training Captains.

The last post may sound before ANZAC Day.

I think the problem with QLink starts at the very top.... GOD...
maybe he wants to see the demise of QL so he can equip J* with small jets at very small pay rates to operate regionally...

The cleaners are treated with more respect. Pilots are sh*t in the eyes of the employer.

Just to dip my toes in the pool of hungry piranhas...
Has anyone been through the direct entry FO stages recently? Just looking to see what is involved in a little more detail then the web site.

Thanks.

Yes, I have. I went through Stages 2 and 3 a few weeks ago.

I'd be happy to answer any specific questions, but I can say here that there were no surprises for either Stage.

The information that I downloaded from the website and the information that they sent to me prior to the testing was detailed and informative.

And I got in!

Everyone is holding their breath to see what response the company will have in regards to the recent letter sent to management from the AFAP....

If you want to see it get on the AFAP website in the Sunstate section on the 7th April.

Very descriptive of what is obvious to keep the company functioning effectively, management better not look through this one though!!

Well done to all involved in putting this forward to Qlink.

Getting a bit tired of waiting for a response though.

Any chance of a short summary - IFALPA Members can not access AFAP Member's Section.

I've just had another read of the Retention letter sent out by QLink management back in October.

Little gems like "an appropriate mix of experience", "promotion opportunities due to our expanding network", and this little diamond in the Q&A section, "these payments wil not be incorporated into the EBA, and as such will remain company policy". Which means they can recind the payment whenever they want.

Best of luck with the letter guys. In my opinion it goes directly to the heart of the problem and reflects the market conditions and world best practice that these clowns have been so quick to throw in our faces over the years. If the management of QFLink do not sit up and take notice, then I'll see you all on the other side with the majority of the remaining REX pilots.

So what do you reckon Lawrie. draft something similar for REX? Based on past recognition by that company (Zip), It would probably be akin to urinating directly into the path of the rotary occilator!

I think you will that Dixon et al are selective capitalists. They are only interested in market forces if the market is moving in their direction. Now they have a serious problem which is basically created by their own doing to some extent, they will not be interested in hearing about market forces. It is someone elses' problem, usually the government because they haven't trained enough people.
The other irony here is that most of Dixon's Asian competitors pay for the full economic cost of training their pilots and pay them to learn!!

That letter only states the bleeding obvious but sometimes that's what it takes.

From the Government's issue paper on aviation:

The skills shortage in aviation has not occurred overnight, and the shortage of a skilled workforce has the potential to cause economic, safety and planning problems for the aviation industry and the communities they serve.

Hiring Trends

An article in the April 08' Australian Aviation magazine on page 91, is a great summary of a trend in aviation employment at the moment.

It appears that some GA companies are still trying to aviod paying reasonable $, trying to force pilots to stay by, in the case of one company, charging a prospective employee $5000 if they leave within a year! Fair dinkum - what's the world coming to?
The possible way to put a stop on the type of recruitment method as depicted in this article, is for the applicant to walk away post haste. When the employer/s loose their bargaining power, maybe then pilots may gain the upper hand .

It appears from the previous post that even the government is ackowledging the current pilot crisis, so why can't the airlines?

When are you people going to realize there is no pilot shortage, we , the management have put in place various means to increase the pilot population by ten fold and therefore giving us the ability to screw i mean reduce costs and increase share holder returns (not to mention my retirement bonus) by 2010.
regards,
GOD

Well there has been a response from NK to the letter sent by the pilot body. The gist of it is 'yes we know there is a pilot shortage and no we are not going to improve your T&C's because we already have with our generous retention scheme'

Bollocks.

Thanks NK - Now I can hit the send button on all those applications I have stored. Such a shame as Qlink used to be good to work for.

Thats funny, me too. I've hit the accept button - to accept another job.

The numbers of experienced drivers fleeing from the once good lifestyle of Eastern Airlines and Northern Eastern (the old SSA) will increase exponentially in the coming weeks.

It has to be part of a plan, surely. Who in their right minds would let it get as bad as it is going to get without some purpose?

And "generous" retention scheme?

heheheehhahaahwhwhahahahwhwhahah he he ha. He he he. thats a good one.

Well done Narenda, in one brief statemet you have confirmed to all the recipients of that response that you have absolutely no idea of what you are doing!

What's on offer is not competing for labour. And that is what's required. you may as well take that pathetic effort and spend it on food relief for all the hard working staff who will be made redundant when your business shrinks.

Can someone with some maths skills demonstrate what the cost to the paying public would be, per ticket on average, if CPT salaries in QFLINK where to be supplemented by $100,000 annual bonus, and $50,000 F/O annual bonus? (as discussed re SA on another thread)? Would it be noticeable? Would it ruin the business? What if the same applied to REX pilots in competition? It would be fascinating maths.
