Lets see 14 start the course, we lose a couple for various reasons, that brings us back to say 12, assume an 80% pass rate that will give them about 10 pilots in twelve months, now that will solve the crewing crisis.

Let's see two years down the track the glamorous, exciting and well paid lifestyle of a regional FO doesn't appeal we may lose another three or four to go and do something else in life.

I reckon the slick salesman probably told kiddies and the parents two years in the Dash and your be a Captain and then you will be into Qantas mainline and on the B747 or A380.

1000 to GO.

Mate when you stop trying to smell the aromas from your @rse, six months down the track you'll realise that the T and C's plus the appreciation from the company (IE Zero) are not enough even for the most enthused enthusiast.

one thousand to go,

it may have changed but i think the standard call is "one thousand to go, ALT select". don't forget that on your check to line or heaven forbid on a line observation audit!

good luck and best wishes for your career in CX, KA, EK or DJ

see all the 'kids' are holding their hands in such a way as to hide the needle marks where the poor bugga's had the QF induction performed via IV !!
Normally it's done via the 'other end' but that's not suitable these days due to OH&S issues where bending over you might hurt yr back !

Good luck to them, it's a diff beast these days flying, us current drivers are the last of a tradition.

re QLink pilot shortage

I have zero sympathy for Qlink/Qantas manning issues.
The manner in which they treated my brother and his colleagues when the 146 services to Tassie ceased was nothing short of disgusting. These pilots were skilled enough to fly Qantas customers in the 146 but were deemed not good enough operate within the Mainline 'culture'. These pilots with many years experience between them were effectively discarded. My brother, a highly regarded pilot with thousands of hours jet time was offered a job flying Dash 8's with only 1 years guaranteed work followed by wage cut.
The resultant misery, depression, marriage break ups etc etc caused by the F@%k you, thanks for nothing attitude displayed by senior management and the HR tossers at the time bordered on the criminal.
My hope now the shoe is on the other foot is that the pilots/crew are the tail wagging the dog.
Sorry, rant over, but I just can't forget the anguish those people caused to people I know....

'Ocatane' you know why they did such an ugly thing? simply 'cause they can, well could back then, the worm is turning tho, the days of 'culling' like that won't be tollerated in this climate much longer. Those buggers are going to get theirs. In fact in a strange sort of way they did yr Bro a fav. Unbeknowns to him & many others they where working for mongrels & they didn't even know it ! Hope yr Bro is back on track now

A slight thread drift here, saves starting a new thread. Saw today 3 X dash 8's (baby ones) all sitting/parked at YMIA basking in the sunshine with no one to love them, something new going on perhaps?

Sad day when the c$$ts from Qantas shafted the Southern boys and girls.

Likewise when they made Southern get rid of the Titans off RPT and Air Ambulance in case one crashed and tarnished the great Qantas name.

Lets see Kumar pull a rabbit out hat to solve the crewing shortage.

Octane,

Sorry to hear about your brother and his colleagues! I wonder if Virgin Blue is looking at hiring some of these former people who fell victim to the rat pack. Nothing sweeter than to allow revenge to a scorned former employee. I don't think Virgin Blue would be concerned about productivity issues!

MQL crew base has a couple of guys who are pretty good model aircraft drivers so it's the perfect place to carry out the radio controlled Dash 8 trials which is management's next strategy to combat the pilot shortage.

They are being fitted with the new gear at the moment and test flights should begin in the next few weeks.

KIWI,

Are they F, N and R sitting idle? And is it true these have been sold off or we holding our breathe for their glorious return to service if/when crewing levels are restored.

Cheers

D.

TQF, TQP, TQR up there - nothing official yet, but I don't think you will see them back.

How about guessing when the next media release will be issued regarding the next excellent scheme devised to combat the attrition?

I reckon Tuesday 25th March.
And no, it won't involve a pay rise as "That would never work!"

TROJAN764... You deduction is correct... nor did I say I was one of them. Sorry for the language but it just annoys me...

flyhardmo... I'm not talking about being an aussie (or any other westerner) and going there to fly. I’m talking about those that are born there. More than half the worlds population is in shambles, not enough food or water... War, Disease the list is endless. I just make the observation that people come on prune and complain about wages when everyone on here is way more fortunate than those I speak of even by virtue of the fact they are using a computer!

Sure everyone is entitled to fair pay conditions etc... BUT... People place way too much importance on it.

The good old Southern days, nothing like watching big Phil pound the pavement around YMLT prior to the medical.

Lots of pub owners in Launie are still upset when the gentleman above moved on, dam near closed the local brewery!
