I'm flying down from Glasgow on Monday to do stage 2 on Tuesday. Even saw someone mention the ibis in Southampton I'm staying at for 2 nights. Looking forward to it but nervously trying to memorise all the aircraft details.

Anyone else going on Tuesday, send me a dm and also if anyone has tips on how to memorise the data in a small time frame, iv tried flash cards and even recorded myself on my phone to listen in the car 😂 it would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to everyone still to sit assessments and waiting to hear the results.

Hey Darren,

I also have my stage 2 on Tuesday but unlike you I don't have too far to travel. I'm from Margate and I'm getting the train down. I've also got flash cards but I'm not even all the way through the booklet yet so I need to put my head down and get stuck in. Luckily enough I'll be sitting on the train for about 4 hours so I can use that time wisely 😁

Good luck to us both then Russ, I'm convinced they make it that difficult so very few candidates will get 100%, at least thats what I'm hoping 🤞

I've sorted out my accommodation via airbnb. As I don't drive I needed to find a place quite close. If you haven't seen it already I suggest watching "Skies above Britain" you can find it on YouTube and it's definitely worth a watch 😉

I did try sending you a PM but looks like your inbox is full.

Thanks StuBob. Good luck to you too for when you do yours! 😁

Hey man,

I have my stage 2 on next Friday and I'm flying from Australia.

They couldn't possibly expect us to memorise all the aircraft info could they? Let me know how yours goes!

I would try to memorise as much as you can for the knowledge test.
Sat my stage 2 yesterday so I'm now going to be checking my email daily to find out 😅 #fingerscrossed

Found out this morning I have passed stage 2, so happy! Thanks again for all the advice on this thread, it helped a lot. No dates available for Prestwick yet to do stage 3 so just a waiting game.

How do you unlock private messages on this, getting notifications saying I have some but can't read them or send them.
Thanks

The issue with someone saying "yes revise that" or "no, you won't need to worry so much about that" is that we all may sit slightly different tests. The test may be the same for all or it might be updated to place different emphasis on different learning areas - or they may have a selection of slightly different ones randomised per Stage 2 session. The only advice I'd give is learn everything in there but making sure you take out what you believe is key information first.

GreenATC 29th November 2018 11:31

I agree with Trevor. Take out what you think are key bits of information. Then learn as much as you can after that. It will only harm to know too little here rather than too much.

Well done Darren, I have also passed and I'm now just waiting for a date some time in February. That way I have plenty of time to learn the book inside out and prepare for the interview questions.

Wishing you good luck. Let me know how you get on! 👍

OK, that's weird as when I replied above, this post wasn't there!

Well done on passing and keep checking for Prestwick dates - there aren't many of them and they fill fast!

For those of you who have been through the process, how long did it take you to get security clearance?

Also as far as I'm aware Global in Gloucester only do approach and aerodrome (as well as basic), is that correct? What about CTC? Do they do everything i.e. approach, aerodrome, and area as well?

I haven't received mine yet but was told 6-7 weeks. I'm hoping they'll want to clear the decks before Christmas as that could add extra time. I submitted mine about 3 weeks ago now.

And yes as far as I know CTC/Jerez do everything

Mine took about 8 weeks. And yes, only ADI and APS ratings.

Hi all!

I've been reading this forum for a while, and decided to join. I had my interview on the 21st of November, and found out I passed the next day. I'll be going to Global in Gloucester at the beginning of March, and was wondering if there were any WhatsApp/Facebook groups for people going to that course.

DarrenG42 4th December 2018 22:01

Does anyone have the diagram showing the number of applicants getting through each stage of the process? Can't seem to access that page anymore on Nats site

Did you get an e-mail from NATS or the UKVS to say that you'd received clearance?

Also, did NATS inform you when you're medical has been fully signed off?

Cheers

Your Class 3 medical certificate will be signed off there and then by the AME after the medical if you meet all the requirements. If there's something that needs further investigation then you'll need to go do that and it'll be referred to the CAA and they'll let you know.

Not allowed to post the link, but the page is no longer there.

Don't know why they'd take this down and leave others pages with out of date/incorrect info up.

Hi all, I have my stage 2 soon and have received the email detailing what to bring. Those who have done stage two if you have a valid ID do you also have to bring your p45/60 and Birth Certificate or is that just for those without valid ID? Panicking slightly as can only find a copy of my birth certificate!

Only need passport/DL if it's in date.

Yeah I've had the medical but needed one bit of follow up completed which I sent to them weeks ago so just wondering when you hear in that instance, not sure how long it takes.

Arg1203 5th December 2018 13:55

@DarrenG42 - I have a copy - feel free to PM your email and I can forward onto you.

@Chips1 - As for medical, I never got mine there and then as I needed to confirm something, once I emailed this to the AME - I got my medical posted to me the same week by signed delivery.

Thank you. Thats very helpful.

I've had a good look at parking posts on here but couldn’t find information on parking on roads so just wondered if anyone had parked on the roads nearby instead of the shopping center?

Might be worth ringing up the AME to see if they have received the information. I had something similar where they had trouble receiving to follow up information to complete the medial.

Whilst you can't park on site, I parked on the road pretty much right outside. I did get there about 30 minutes early as its quite a busy business park.

glasgowcalum 6th December 2018 17:50

Hi guys,

I've stumbled upon this thread whilst looking online and found some of the comments really helpful. I'm applying to NATS for the 2nd time after failing the stage 1 tests last year through being completely unprepared and generally just not knowing what to expect.

I'm wondering if anybody that has failed stage 1 before has went on to pass it on their second attempt? I'm also wondering how often the stage 2 assessments are held, should be successful at passing stage 1 in the next day or two.

Cheers!

Trevor Hannant 8th December 2018 08:56

Hi Calum.

I failed Part 1 a few years ago then passed at my second attempt this year. If you remember what you struggled on last year, take some time to work on those areas before you start the Stage 1 tests - I did that and it helped considerably.

As far as Stage 2 goes, there's assessment centres regularly and you'll get dates available for a few months ahead. I passed mine at the beginning of April but selected a Stage 2 date of end of August as it suited me better at the time.

Beaves 10th December 2018 17:44

Hey has anyone who passed stage 2 on 23rd Nov or later had any dates for stage 3 yet?
I passed stage 2 and had the email saying congrats etc on Nov 26th, but still as of yet had no email with dates to book stage 3. Wondering if this is a normal waiting timeframe given how prompt everything else has been so far?

Hi Beaves,

Yes I had mine on Nov 27th and I had an email the day after with a link that I can book my dates on. Have you checked your spam folder as I recall someone saying to check there a few pages back. If not I would suggest you contact them.

The infographic has already been posted, but if you need the whole page, it is on WayBack Machine - the Web Archive website.
You can find the link to that page on another page on the NATS website and paste it onto the Web Archive website.

I have heard from a NATS ATCO interviewer that the selection test is going to be "streamlined" or "trimmed a little bit" next year with "some bits removed". I don't have any further details :)

Cheers Russ,
Thought it was a bit strange! But wasn't sure if Christmas time was getting in the way of admin.
Emailed them anyway last night and they've promptly replied with a link - booked onto 5th Feb at CTC.

Perhaps without Multipass on a permanent basis, as they have done recently. I'd be surprised if they chopped even more out, then applying for ANS truly would be a marathon in comparison. I spoke to an ATCO over the last few months who said he's seeing more and more student ATCOs struggling to validate, but that could be due to an increase in volume of trainees alone rather than a percentage increase in people finding validation challenging. Plus it's not representative of the whole of the UK, just that single airport.

But still, a comprehensive selection process is a good thing in the long run.

Thanks a lot. I've been doing a lot of practice tests to help with what I failed on the last time. I just reapplied this evening expecting to automatically get the link to sit stage 0/1 but haven't had any correspondence - it simply says "reapplied" on the application status section.

I'll keep you updated - hoping I at least get a shot at stage 2!

Hi, when I go to apply on NATS one of the questions on the application is: "If you wear glasses or have had laser eye surgery please provide your CAA Class 3 results (if neither, select Not Relevant)" - the choices are: OK, Unfit or Not Relevant.

I'm a bit confused about this since from my understanding the "CAA Class 3" is the medical they give you if you make it through all the other stages. For anyone who applied with glasses/laser eye surgery how did you answer this question, did you book a separate medical before you applied?

I would really appreciate any advice.
