Great news!:ok:
I'm so happy right now, I was afraid yesterday that you wouldn't get your results until next year, but it seems you've now got an erly christmas present, good job!

PhiltheReaper 14th December 2010 12:33

November 14th Stage 1 Result!

Hey everyone!

The Results for the Bournemouth November 14th set of Stage 1 tests are due out tomorrow by my reckoning of 15 working days!

This is an exciting but also a bone shatteringly nervous moment for me! *fingers crossed for getting onto stage 2*

I'll let you all know as soon as I know either way, and hopefully you guys will all do the same!

Phil

KirtjE 14th December 2010 19:38

Just completed the epic 5 hour drive home from Fareham. Stage 2 went alright, but I have a strong feeling that I failed the first section.

Let's just hope that I get through, and never have to do mental arithmetic whilst avoiding mid-air collisions...

Also... if any of the guys (or girl) are on PPRuNe who did the Stage 2 today... HELLO :) Send me a PM and let me know how you got on.

PS: I was the super tall one ;D

KirtjE 15th December 2010 14:25

Just had a congratulatory email from NATS to invite me to Stage Three!

Super excited now :D

When I went to schedule the interview, there was only a single slot, and that was for 16th Feb in Prestwick. I don't really want to go all the way to Glasgow for my interview, will more dates become available, or do I have to choose this option?!

Sharmanat0r 15th December 2010 15:12

aww the stage 2 dates on the 26, 27 an 28 Jan booked up SUPER fast lol gota wait till 16th Feb now :(

Crazy Voyager 15th December 2010 15:37

KirtjE, congrats on making it through!

I belive the mail NATS sent regarding the test dates next year said that there will be at least one stage 3 each month and that they are usually held at the CTC. I'm not 100% certain but I belive it said something along those lines.

Once again congrats! I'm really looking forward to my stage 2 on the 26th! :)

KirtjE 15th December 2010 18:10

Woohoo. I'll keep my eye out for March/April then.

Is there an expiration date on the tests? ie, do I have to do Stage 3 within X days of passing Stage 2?

Crazy Voyager 15th December 2010 19:46

None that I know of but if you want to be sure, send HR a mail and ask :)

ad5x5 16th December 2010 12:06

Hi hatemyjob
I was at Stage 2 on the 13th as well at CTC.
I got through as well.

Got to wait until Feb for Stage 3 though now at Prestwick.

How bout you?

Who were you as well (should prob remember but meet so many people) - I was the guy who left first...

PhiltheReaper 16th December 2010 12:45

I'm very happy to let everyone know that I've passed my Stage 1! (YAY!)

Looking forwards to getting on with the rest of the application!

Phil

KirtjE 16th December 2010 17:41

Congrats matey. Stage 2 is a real bitch... :P

hatemyjob 16th December 2010 23:36

Ad5, I was the guy who kept going for a fag.

Congrats

PhiltheReaper 16th December 2010 23:48

Yeah so I've heard! I'm already practising my arithmetic to help with that landing and arithmetic test!

Also, can I just have a steer on something: I've heard rumours that I should try to arrange a tower visit before stage 2. Is that true?

Cheers,
Phil

KirtjE 17th December 2010 12:46

Phil: There is no need to visit a tower or anything before Stage 2.

But, if you are successful, I'd recommend visiting Swanwick or a tower before Stage 3 :)

Sofia ATC 17th December 2010 22:28

Hi,
I did Stage 1 a week ago and today i got and email from HR inviting me to do the personality test although they have not mention if i have pass or fail stage 1. Shall I assume I am through Stage 2?

Anyone else in the same situation?

Thanks

PhiltheReaper 17th December 2010 23:36

Thanks for the info on making a visit.

Also, let me be the first to congratulate you on passing stage 1 Sofia, that's a heck of a fast reply!

Basically, you have passed Stage 1 (as far as I understand the system) but you need to pass the Personality Test to progress to stage 2.

Phil

KirtjE 18th December 2010 23:44

Phil: I don't believe there is a pass or fail element to the personality test between Stages 1 and 2, nor is there a pass or fail element to the career test between Stages 2 and 3. However, I would assume the interviewers at Stage 3 would have copies to discuss with you, just be honest, else you'll get caught out.

PhiltheReaper 19th December 2010 11:26

Ohh.. interesting on 2 counts!

1. I have heard that some people do not progress past the Personality test? But hopefully it isn't pass/fail as that'd put be closer than I think to success! :D

2. I didn't realise there was a career test between 2 and 3, I presume this is where they decide if you would be Area or Aerodrome?

Cheers,
Phil

PhiltheReaper 21st December 2010 11:03

I've had my email this morning inviting me to the stage 2! :D (YAY)

However, the link shows no dates (OH NO!)

But I have emailed to ask the proper course of action. Just wondering if anyone else is suffering the same problem. It could be weather related I suppose? I.E. they don't know when to schedule it, and are waiting for the weather to subside?

Cheers all as always!

Phil

12 months on

Hi Im back for round 2 with the nats selection process.

Ive applied again but re-thinking on dates i may be a couple of weeks early will this matter ? and if so will they let me know im too early or just not get back to me ?

Thanks

PhiltheReaper 29th December 2010 14:15

I believe that it has something to do with the frequency of taking the FEAST test (? is that correct?)

So, given there are no stage 2's now until May you'd probably be OK. I suggest getting in touch with HR though, and just asking the honest question.

1 question of my own..

Are there any qualified NATS controllers who can give me a good opinion on the SkyTest preparation Software?

Having searched PPRuNe, it seems that it's mentioned in passing a lot, but never really in detail.

I have my stage 2 this May, and I feel it might really help me?

Cheers!
Phil

AArkley 29th December 2010 15:24

I shall let you know in February, Phil...

ZOOKER 29th December 2010 18:07

I'm sorry,
what is a 'career test'?
What is 'Sky Test preparation software'?
For that matter, what is a "landing and arithmetic test'?

sambatc 29th December 2010 18:32

zooker,

they're all types of fish :ok:

PhiltheReaper 29th December 2010 22:06

AArkley: please do! So your stage 2 in in Feb?! I was told they don't have any Stage 2's till May :S

Career Test: not sure, I presume it is used to stream between the En Route or Aerodrome controller course?

Sky Test Preparation Software: This is a program offered by a german company privately, (for $49 odd) and is designed to help people practice Stage 1 and 2 NATS tests.

Landing and Arithmatic Test: Well I'm not quire sure, but so far with NATS things have tended to be what they say on the tin, so I presuming it's like the "landing game" on the NATS careers website, mixed with some Arithmetic problems alongside. I have heard a similar thing exists in the FEAST test as run by eurocontrol.

NOTE: I have no experience of anything other than Stage 1 of NATS testing. So I may be talking rubbish... Can't say I didn't warn ya!

Phil

AArkley 30th December 2010 10:13

Phil,

Jan 27th, but allowing 15 working days for results...

I booked in early December if memory serves; there were available dates for S2 in early 2011, but they did get snapped up rather quickly.

PhiltheReaper 30th December 2010 10:24

So it seems! :(

Oh well, it gives me time to concentrate on Uni if nothing else :)

Let us know how your S2 goes!

Phil

Sofia ATC 1st January 2011 09:53

Happy new year for everyone!!!!

KirtjE 2nd January 2011 18:12

Sorry for the lack of clarification about what I called the 'Career Test'.

Basically it asks things like;

How important is job satisfaction to you?
Would you be prepared to relocate to find a job?
Is the prospect of promotion appealing to you?

None of those are actual questions, but you get the idea.

It is not about deciding the route your training takes, more about where you'd fit in the company in the grand scheme of things.

I'm still waiting for more Stage 3 dates to be listed... :)

PhiltheReaper 3rd January 2011 12:31

Interesting.. so once again I presume it is possible to 'fail' the career test?

Phil

Angels-One-Five 3rd January 2011 20:20

Yes, it is possible to fail the personality test and the 'career test'.

KirtjE 4th January 2011 14:16

I've just booked in for my Stage 3 at Swanwick for 31st March.

Can somebody confirm that the Stage 3 is at the Swanwick centre and not in Fareham..?

Anyone else doing their Stage 3 on this date? :)

sambatc 4th January 2011 14:30

Swanwick is in Fareham.... :ok:

SALH 4th January 2011 18:43

Kirt: Were you emailed stage 3 test dates today? When did you complete your stage 2 may I ask?
I passed stage 2 in October and read an email that night inviting me to only one stage 3 date which happened to be the following day at Swanwick - no good to me whatsoever living in Yorkshire!!
Since then I've received emails detailing the decrease in frequency of test dates - though having said that, it stipulated that there would still be monthly stage 3 dates :)
However, I've not heard anything regarding 2011 stage 3 dates still!! I hope they haven't forgotten me ha!
Were there many dates to opt from? And was March the earliest possible date? Thanks! :)

sambatc 5th January 2011 09:19

3 weeks till Stage 2 and counting..... time to go sharpen my brain...

Crazy Voyager 5th January 2011 11:23

Indeed, 3 weeks to go now. Anyone else than me and sambatc going down for stage 2 on the 26th?

Have any good brain sharpeners sambatc? I'm using some silly games myself when I'm in the mood :p

PhiltheReaper 5th January 2011 11:33

If you join the Help for Heroes networking site (google Heronet) they have a games section.

In there somewhere they have a tritris... where you have to play three simultaneous games of tetris! that's probably quite good.. least.. I hope so! :P

Phil

Sofia ATC 5th January 2011 20:16

Hi Phil,

How did you manage to get a slot in May for stage 2? I got the famous e-mail saying they will let me know when there are available days. snif snif

Thanks!

KirtjE 6th January 2011 11:58

SALH: I completed my Stage 2 in November (I think) and was offered just a single Stage 3 slot for Prestwick, which I didn't want to take. So since then, I've just been rechecking the link that I was sent, and the new dates were listed there.

There was one earlier date, but it was at the Bournemouth centre, so I opted for Swanwick, as I have stayed in a nice hotel for the past two stages.

I'd recommend the 31st March so you can see me ;D haha!

PhiltheReaper 6th January 2011 13:12

Hi there!

I haven't selected my date yet, but in email contact with the HR people, I asked when dates would be released again, and they told me that they would next be running Stage 2 dates in May. (hoping I can be quick off the blocks, I should be on one of those dates!!)

Phil
