Nop, nothing yet. This week is the 4th week so hopefully something will come up soon.

Fatty182 3rd Mar 2011 01:06

They don't seem to be the best at estimating times. Probably double whatever you're told and go from there :P

mr.zoo 3rd Mar 2011 01:38

Isn't it ironic that the part of the organisation that's responsible for new hires based on their quick judgement and decision making ability isn't all that prompt themselves...

I wonder if there is any stats on how many potential qualified applicants had moved on long before the result is out.

Over a year from application to being told whether you are successful or not is simply a massive joke. If this is how the organisation is ran then I'm seriously having doubt on proceeding even if I end up being successful!

fivel 3rd Mar 2011 04:10

If you look over this thread, you'll find the same waiting post pop up every six weeks or so. It was the same 2 years ago when i applied as it is now. Im not sure if the recruitment team will ever realise how badly they comunicate to the applicants.

fujii 3rd Mar 2011 05:44

From previous posts.

Thanks Yaasb. I'll give them a soon and see if they can't organize (organise) a tour of Tullermarine (Tullamarine) for me. Thanks heaps.

Whilst waiting for results, check your spelling and grammar. One incorrect keystroke in ATC is not just a poor post.

Niblib 3rd Mar 2011 06:40

Nicely done Fujii. However, in my post you left out the fact that I left out "Call". In the third post it is "themselves", it's that it supposed to be aren't instead of isn't. And in the next one you change tense half way through.
You check yours too :)

Room Available

Hi Folks,
I still have one room available for rent in Taylors Hill. Its a nice area and is only about 20 minutes from the airport. There's two of us on the April course so it'll be a good study house (not to mention a good place to relax). There are pics and stuff here Fully Furnished, recently new house. Near shops | House & Flat Share | Gumtree Taylors Hill if anyone is interested...

Cheers all
Kieran

fujii 4th Mar 2011 04:13

Niblib.
There you go. I've got you thinking and checking already.

ASA stand at Avalon

G'day All,

I was impressed with the stand provided by ASA at the Avalon exhibition hall yesterday. The new tower system was on display which I believe is the one from Canada was on display. Having been to the Pilot Information Sessions recently in Melbourne Centre, it was great to see and hear the enthusiastic staff at the stand and the genuine experience they offered.

Well worth a look if available on the public days:ok:

AoF

P.S. I would imagine the staff at YMAV tower would be in heaven this week:cool:

Niblib 4th Mar 2011 11:58

Thanks Fujii. I try and check constantly (I write as a hobby). I'll have to look better next time :)

j_850 5th Mar 2011 13:59

Hey guys,
Anyone starting on April 18 tower course?
Making the big move down to Melbourne at the end of March and looking for somewhere to live. Preferably close to good transport to the city. Also, any locals know if there is any way around NOT having to buy a car for transport to training?

Cheers,
J

Cookie7 5th Mar 2011 20:35

j_850,

Your only transport options to training are:

- drive yourself
- car pool
- taxi

Fatty182 5th Mar 2011 21:50

hey j_850,

As kieran has posted earlier, he has a room going in a house in Taylors Hill (I'm in the other room :)) and we're both on the April 18 course, but in Enroute, but the courses are the same up til a certain point.

I hadn't actually discussed with kieran how he was planning to get to the airport yet, but I have a car and would be happy to car pool (for some petrol money :))

Kieran17 6th Mar 2011 23:38

Hi J_850
Yeah I do have a room still available, it;ll be a good study house, with fatty 182 and myself in the 18th April Enroute course. You can check it out here: Fully Furnished, recently new house. Near shops | House & Flat Share | Gumtree Taylors Hill
As for getting there, I'm assuming that we'll just car pool each day, make it cheaper and easier for every one.
I think there's buses not too far away and the train take about half an hour to get into the city, but it's not far from the airport which is what I was going for...

Also, while I'm posting mode, did anyone go to the Avalon Airshow? I went on sunday, could have spent all week there...

Later
Kieran

Niblib 7th Mar 2011 00:01

J_180: the only way to the airport besides driving is train into the city and bus back out. There's no direct line from anywhere.

Kieran, made it to the Friday session. Loved it! What's not to love about a B1 fly over and a few simulated bombing runs? :) Spent about half an hour talking to a bomb disposal guy. That was awesome though I was a little worried that in his stand there was instructions on how to build and improvised bomb.

By far the best part was the night time simulated bombing run of the Hornet. (I think. Might have been a raptor; I couldn't really hear the commentator over the sound of the awesome.)

Kieran17 7th Mar 2011 04:44

I was there on sunday, when it came to the bombing run they triggered it a bit early, so the explosions where all going on when the jet was still about 300 meters away... it was all pretty cool though.
And loved the B1 runs, a very imposing piece of kit, wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of it...

accommodation available for new course 18th april

hi i believe a new course starts 18th of april, my two flatmates (ATC trainess) will be finished up just prior to that time though I still have to at least the end of May/early June until course completion. There are 2 rooms in a beautiful appartment Moonee Ponds/Essendon with balcony and views of city (20 mins to work 25 mins to city by tram with stop outside appt) , I also have a car and travel into work each day. Rent is $160 pw so if interested email me [email protected] or 0420571664. PS this would be perfect for initial accommodation for 2 months or the possibility of taking over the lease is also there. thanks for your time

Fatty182 10th Mar 2011 09:15

To those starting on the April 18 course, I assume everyone else got the email today with some more info and the news our precourse material should be coming in the post. Very exciting :)

LeviTate 10th Mar 2011 10:06

Yes. The precourse material came before the email actually. In a small envelope. Just big enough for a 4GB Thumb Drive with a whole heap of course documentation. Took a little while to work out what I needed now and what I'll need later, but all sorted now ready to start studying.

Kieran17 10th Mar 2011 10:21

Got my email and letter today. Been trauling through all the docs on the drive, should keep me busy for a while...
Looking foward to getting stuck into it fully though.

Later
kieran

Fatty182 10th Mar 2011 19:19

Ah you're both in Melbourne which is why you probably got the post quicker, I imagine mine will arrive today, which is a shame cos I wanted to print off stuff at work :p have to wait til monday now!

maton325 11th Mar 2011 09:38

Sounds like you were there yesterday too? Fingers crossed for 4 weeks time.

YAASB 11th Mar 2011 10:43

I have just returned from the testing at Melbourne Assessment Centre.

One of my biggest disappointments from these last few days is that at least one of the candidates has been coached, most probably from a previous applicant.
This is not looked upon favourably.
Not only that, it is so obvious when it happens. We see it, we change the scenario, and every time the candidate struggles.
The assessors have years of ATC experience and can spot the inconsistency a mile away.

As I have said before, come to the centre ready to do your best. You don't know what we are looking for, so don't try and short cut the process. It will not work.
Ok, rant over.

I would like to thank all those that did attend the assessment days and also thank them for their efforts. Good luck for all those that came and were themselves, and did their best.

Cheers

Boonie.

Andiator 14th Mar 2011 02:36

Hi,
Got my email and flash drive the other day too. It's starting to sink in and feel a little more real now. I'm so looking forward to getting in to it all. There's plently to keep us busy over the next 5 weeks.

Andiator

ps anyone checked out/know of the ATC32 Ab Initio Discussion board?

tkolekar 14th Mar 2011 09:50

hi
my first post here wanted to find out do u have to be an australian citizen to apply to air services australia

Fatty182 14th Mar 2011 11:32

Auditor, I had a look the other day, posted in the general section but no replies since I posted last time I checked.

YAASB 14th Mar 2011 20:23

tkolekar
Yes, you have to be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or hold permanent residency status in Australia to be able to apply for an ATC with Airservices.

YAASB 14th Mar 2011 20:28

SuperStinker 16th Mar 2011 09:13

I wonder

I've been an ATC for 10 years and held a CPL for 20, I wonder if I could get through the online testing?

Roger Standby 16th Mar 2011 16:33

SuperStinker,

Been in the job 10 years myself and a pile of us were discussing the same question a few days ago. The general consensus was no :}

Niblib 17th Mar 2011 05:14

Guess I missed the March assessment centers. Anyone know when the next Melbourne one is?
Thanks! And congratulations to everyone who got in!

SuperStinker 17th Mar 2011 10:57

Roger Standby

Rekon you might be right!

TroyMcClure 22nd Mar 2011 08:36

Hi guys, just received email for assessment centres for next few months. Seems only to be held in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. Is it usual to have none in Melbourne?

Fatty182 22nd Mar 2011 20:38

No, they've had them in Melbourne before, maybe there just aren't enough candidates in Melbourne to warrant a separate assessment day this time around?

str8shooter 22nd Mar 2011 22:24

Troy, I take it then you're Melb based? Are there any others out there? If so, we're in the same boat, and yes, I got the same email. So IF & WHEN I get an invite (not getting ahead of myself here!!), I guess it's off to Sydney then.......

YAASB 23rd Mar 2011 10:22

Hi Guys,
We have had two assessment centres in Melbourne in October and also a couple of weeks ago.
The next Centres will be in Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane.
I believe the next time we are scheduled to be in Melbourne is June or July.
Its just a matter of spreading ourselves around, and going where the demand is from applicants.
Cheers
Boonie.

str8shooter 23rd Mar 2011 22:10

I suppose for those keen enough, travelling to Sydney for assessment shouldn't be a big issue....., it certainly doesn't bother me at all. Return flights out of Melb are usually pretty reasonable, if they're not booked at the last miniute, and if it's only a one day thing, we shouldn't have to worry about accomodation either? YAASB...., can you tell us if the venue is close to Sydney Airport?

missy 24th Mar 2011 07:16

Nah, typically North Sydney not far from the train station although it could be different time this around. Good luck.

Niblib 24th Mar 2011 14:03

I got the same email. I'm in Melbourne as well but would be more than happy to travel to Sydney if that's the only place they can fit me in. Or Brisbane. Make a holiday out of it :)
