LHR Atis and QNH readbacks with a/c type.
Good point Del Prado. Another reason for pilots to ensure that when they set QNH their altimeters read apron elevation +/- tolerances.
Claudillo, it's needed for performance calculations.
I have read this thread through from the beginning again (yes I know I need to get out more) and, on reflection, you will all be relieved to learn that I can see the necessity of a readback to cover the minority of cases where QNH has been mis-set. I was operating under the assumption (maybe incorrect) that QNH would always be passed on taxi nothwithstanding that it had not been stated with receipt of ATIS.
coracle, I believe you! Whilst taking on board you point about wrong QNH if they are climbing to a FL that implies that 1013 has been set incorrectly during climb methinks?
Why include the QNH in the ATIS at all?

It may seem a bit of a pain in the bum having to repeat the QNH, but trust me I have lost count of the number of times someone has called climbing to FL60 or have "bust" their level because the wrong QNH has been set. It may have not resulted in an incident, but it has on other occassions!

QNH readback...mmmm!!
Well, I reckon the court is still trully out on this one. No where else on the planet, as far as I know, do you have to read the QNH back. Acknowledging the ATIS code, alpha or zulu is suffice in saying, "yep, got the whole 9 yards, r/w, wind, weather and pressure with temp". Agreed, in flight from FL to altitude, its a mandate but the starting point is surely the response to the WHOLE acknowledgement of the relevant ATIS.???

Is it still required when checking in on first contact in the air when arriving? E.g We have information Juliet, QNH 1026 or is it just required on the ground when making first contact?
I can see why they ask for aircraft type in London, but it does get rather annoying when you fly for an airline which has 218 identical aircraft!
I especially like Belfast City's own interpretation which happens every single time we request push and start, even if I've just got clearance and verified ATIS letter and QNH 5 seconds before, then we request push and start and get "XYZ, Push and start approved for RWYXX, Information Alpha, QNH 1026"! So do I read the mandatory readback QNH for the 3rd time in the past 30seconds?
