There was a thread on NZ a while back, I think they were having problems with the management over pay and conditions so not unlike the rest of the world. Certainly the pay seems very good for New Zealand but not on an international scale. Apparently quite a few Kiwis have moved over the Tasman sea and to the sand pit in search of greater fortune. I'm sure you've looked already but Welcome to Airways has details about working there.

You got the right name to work here in NZ (you can't get much further south without freezing your *****'s off!). Basically if your can recognise an aircraft and have a pulse, Airways NZ will offer you a job. We continue to be short staffed as a number of our locally grown controllers head off to the middle east seeking their fame and more importantly fortune. As OA32 says the pay and conditions here aren't bad when compared to other semi skilled workers in NZ however against other highly skilled persons here and most overseas controllers the pay is low.

The lifestyle in NZ is good but is becoming increasing more expensive. Airways NZ as a company has really lost its way and doesn't really know what its doing. 20 years ago I would have said that NZ had one of the best ATC staff in the world. The staffing shortages of the last 15 years and the significant changes in our recruiting standards have now placed us in a challenging position!

If you need some detailed info let me know, but if you come to the land of the long white cloud you do so for the lifestyle and not to be a controller!

Thanks for the replies all.....

Just a quick message to say thanks for the replies....

It is a lifestyle change im looking for and was of the understanding that pay wasn't as good as other places...the trade off is the lifestyle and somewhere to bring my young family up.

Hope you all have a great xmas and hope if all goes to well i might be joining you in the near future.

ps. does anyone know when the vacancies are for? a time frame? i know the recruitment ends the end of December but when are the courses etc?

regards

Im pretty sure last time I checked they would only admit you on to one of their courses if you are a NZ citizen. Might be wrong.

No there's a vacancy that says to apply if you're interested in moving in the future and they'll contact should a vacancy thats suitable becomes available. It's not exclusively for Kiwi's as it says something about having accredited employee status with NZ immigration....

I emailed them recently asking them about transferring.

You have to be a holder of a dual nationality either by blood or marriage;
or from NZ or Australia

Knew I shouldn't have got divorced so quick!!

that's strange, that would discount most of the imports over the last couple of years that have entered the system, lets see, South African, English, Swedish, Norwegian (sorry about that spelling) Chinese, Singapore and a couple of others where I'm not to sure where their from. Flight service currently training a Yugoslavian. Must come under the dual nationality.
