You got the right name to work here in NZ (you can't get much further south without freezing your *****'s off!). Basically if your can recognise an aircraft and have a pulse, Airways NZ will offer you a job. We continue to be short staffed as a number of our locally grown controllers head off to the middle east seeking their fame and more importantly fortune. As OA32 says the pay and conditions here aren't bad when compared to other semi skilled workers in NZ however against other highly skilled persons here and most overseas controllers the pay is low.

The lifestyle in NZ is good but is becoming increasing more expensive. Airways NZ as a company has really lost its way and doesn't really know what its doing. 20 years ago I would have said that NZ had one of the best ATC staff in the world. The staffing shortages of the last 15 years and the significant changes in our recruiting standards have now placed us in a challenging position!

If you need some detailed info let me know, but if you come to the land of the long white cloud you do so for the lifestyle and not to be a controller!
