xpz67.

I remember the young lady from C Watch on CLN wings with the ample chest. I wont name her here but she was known as The Spanner because every time you looked at her, she tightened your nuts.

KC has retired from JJ.

Anybody remember Mr Singh the chef at LATCC. He use to bring sandwiches into work. When asked why, he said 'well you dont expect me to eat this rubish do you' we said we do and you cook it.

Then there was the canteen mouse !!! Even that would not eat the food. The poor thing was eventually caught in a trap but only after morsels of bait was bought in from outside.

Hi Clint.

Yes, "The spanner". She knew what she was doing as she always wore see-through tops.

"Fag-ash Lil", yes I remember her as well but not the two n-n-w-w cleaners.

Brian Toomer made his whole lifes ambition to get scrambled eggs on toast without the liquid included with the egg from turning the toast into a mush.

His final solution was to ask for scrambled egg on a single plate, take a napkin and and dry it and then order buttered toast. Oh happy days.

Did you know that the tower in the centre of EGLL was temporary? It was meant to be replaced in 1964!

Was anybody involved with the Chipmonk that appeared one morning on the north-side?

I was T-NE B/B CLN approaching the end of an afternoon shift when the Chippy flew from 'The Mechanics Arms' at Denham to Leigh-on-Sea and back. I was waiting for an HP7 to depart MC to BRA. I saw an unknown wiggly primary and for some reason phoned MC who weren't working it but could see the nav lights. I idly tracked him and watched him turn south at Maple Cross musing over the fact that it was late to have lights out at Denham. I heard the story on the radio the following morning so phoned the LL Sup (DA known as 'B.....') who asked me to submit a 1261. LL 'C' Watch ( HH and co) were on that night and asked the Police to investigate the unknown Chipmunk on the N. Side. The Police said that they couldn't find the Chipmunk so phoned the Tower to inform them they had passed the sighting on to the RSPCA......

Seems this guy had had 'a few' and 'borrowed' a familiar mount and, no, there were no lights at Denham. But they were on at Heathrow......

Quite possibly.
He was the only person I ever met who was done for speeding and dangerous driving on a pushbike. He came freewheeling down a hill in Croydon and smashed into a police car.

He was asked at Denham if he could purse his lips and when he did so an outsize clothes peg was put on them to shut him up!! One of the entries in his training file there read, "he goes through life pushing doors marked pull."

I heard he died of cancer or leukemia .

BTW didn't a Dove "appear" on the apron at SS one morning when the fog lifted?

ISTR training him on the wings....
Oh well, he kept me entertained

Hi Talkdownman.

Thanks for that. If I use it, do you want a credit?

Someone was talking about Ken Brown a while ago and he came to B Watch at LATCC. He was not popular as he had a rather "Superior" attitude to himself.

On afternoon he was on TMA N and was asked for a clearance for a WU O/B. He wrote it on the strip in Q Code and said to Kath Osbourne, the assistant "I bet you can't read that".

For the remainder of the afternoon shift Kath wrote out EVERYTHING in Q Code and he had to ask her to stop because he couldn't understand what she was writing down.

I know it happened because I was there.

Sheer heaven.

Reminds me of the story of the mini-skirted female Liverpudlian ATCA in LL Tower who was lookig for Mike Hunt. She was stood about halway up the stairs hen she asked if anyone had seen him - in a very broad Scouse accent. The answer came down from above in the negative and added that he thought everybody else had

Not that I know of.

Mine was the "Janet & John" version with big pictures and not a lot of long words! I was only an ATCO II.

Sorry about this but I have been reminded of an event that took place whilst we were on a our cadet course.

We were challenged to a game of football by another, very acedemic cadet course.

They got really pissed of because we had 13 players on the pitch and they didn't realise it we were into the second half. We were losing by millions but me being a really professional footballer (if you beleive that then you must also believe in fairies and Father Christmas) on our side scored our only goal.

Unfortunately, it was into my own goal. However, this did not stop the members of my (reduced) team congratulating me in the normal fashion.

The other team walked off and not having a referee we declared ourselves the winners and celebrated in the appropriate manner.

Pete Bish was on D watch same time as me. He was obviously destined for greater things.
Going back even further, i think 4 of our year at luton Grammar?Sixth Form College ended up in ATC, Martyn Cooper, Vintage ATCO, someone whose name i've forgotten but also lived in Luton, and me.
After a disagreement"" with John ReynoldsI spent a couple of months on NMU at Gatwick before going down to Sopley. Some characters there, Pete underwood-Ground, Daphne Donkin, John Dancer. Went briefly back to LATCC, didn't even get into the Ops Room before dropping myself in it again on meeting our new ATCA1, Terry Thomas; You're having a laugh, was the original reaction; unfortunately out loud. TT was not reknowned for his SOH

I shared a flat with Jim Creegan in Luxembourg for several months. Despite the reactions here to his name he was a top bloke and a good controller .... as long as you saw things his way!!!

Later on, in Holland, we lived next to another pair of LATCC stalwarts, Bob and Jenny Ruffle.. Last i heard also gone their separate ways and Bob was at Shoreham

BTW oes anyone know how i could get my hands on Pete B's book?

Lon More.

Ian,

TT is a reader of this Forum. He has a fine sence of humour. Well respected by all his former workmates.

John Dancer did train on TMA South. I was one of his mentors. He was good. He never validated because he was fast tracked into a Managment position. Don't ever go drinking with the man. He should carry a Government Health warning. When he was at EGKK he was known as the Gatwick Drinking Machine. Awsome.

Do you remember Denny Johns who went to Luton. Magnificent chest.

Clint.
