Got an email today to say I was successful in the online testing and the next telephone interviews are scheduled for December 2010 / January 2011, followed by an Assessment Day in Melbourne at any of a number of dates in 2011.

My experinces
Hey all, I'm coming a bit late to the party, but I too applied for the enroute job (waaaay back in November last year, so it's been a looooong wait ). I completed the online testing on the saturday, can't remember the date, and received a phone call on the Wednesday for the short phone interview.
In the testing, I was mainly concerned with the verbal one, just as I found myself wrestling with logic to get the right answer. I did ok in the practise test so hopefully I did well in the actual test the others were ok, just then checking test got progressively harder and less time, but I think it was designed that way, to see at what point people "fail" as such.
I'm booked in on the 20th at the Brisbane centre, really looking forward to it I had the opportunity to visit the enroute centre in Brisbane and it increased my enthusiasm for the job considerably
To be honest, I haven't heard specifically, but I was given the impression that there wasn't a different course for enroute melbourne and enroute Brisbane, that the paths would diverge after the 12 months in Melbourne, and the city specific training would be the 6 months probation as such. As I said, I have no hard evidence of that, it was just the impression I was given

Just got notification of my pass of on-line testing; still waiting on phone interview though. Any tips on the interview? Anything in particular I should be researching? And do they give you a number you can call back if you miss the call? I'm a bit paranoid about missing it if I'm working or something!

Hi guys, good to discover this site. Just a question , I made it through online testing and awaiting further testing but i'm just wondering if there is any age restrictions. Haven't found any on ASA site. I'm early 40s and fairly fit but now wondering if this could go against me. Thanks in advance.

Troy (I remember you), like any other employer ASA can't discriminate based on age... There have been quite a few 40+ controllers go through in the past. The hardest part for you will be accepting the pitiful training wage.... Very very tough I'd suggest if you are trying to run a household (of any description, unless you're independently wealthy) while training. Then there is the issue of the round 50% pass mark... It's a big risk if you are giving up something else which pays the bills IMHO, good luck though.

dreamer84, you don't have to worry about missing the call. they will send you an email with a link, and you yourself will book the date and time that's most comfortable for you. as for the questions, all of them are situational so try to recall as much as you can from previous experiences. have you heard of STAR? that's how the interview would go.
and as for troy, don't worry about the age buddy. no discrimination whatsoever as long as you can prove you can do the job. and yes that's right, money isn't that good while training if you've got bills to pay.
i am booked for tomorrow's test day in tullamarine. looking forward to it. (not the 1 hour trip though) i wonder how the other's did on the 11th and today? any news guys?

The others are right though, the initial financial sacrafice will be a bitter pill to swallow, but in my case, I want this opportunity badly enough to do it. Older maybe....., but by no means over-the-hill......, go for it!!

In regards to the age issue.
Keep in mind, as well as the pay, that the training is not a fast process. From the time I had my test day till the time im (hopefully) fully rated will be about 2 years.

Blockla, thursday and str8shooter thanks for your replies. Yeah training wage not great but finally feel i'm in a position financially where I can finally have a crack. Been wanting to try this for years. Yes there's a good chance i could fail either test, training, fiield but no point dying wondering and regretting never taking the risk in the first place.

Enroute training is the same for both Brisbane and Melbourne - once you pass your initial 44 weeks you then go to whichever of those centres houses the zone you are assigned to ... you then spend the next however long it takes you (usually 3-4 months I gather) getting your first endorsement in the zone - once you have that you are an actual ATCO (and that is also when your training bond kicks in)
The tower and the enroute intakes can start together but they split up fairly early on in the piece - I think I remember someone suggesting around week 9 or 12 ish ...

Should've gone with TWR/TMA fivel
Received our postings today!
As the Jan and March TWR/TMA course completion dates are so close together, we've been classed as one group of 8 as far as postings go. They are:
2 x Jandakot
2 x Cairns
1 x Melbourne
1 x Moorabin
1 x Bankstown
1 x Parafield
Jan course finished Procedural TWR this week and we'll be starting our last module (formerly GAAP) on Mon. There was a little uncertainty as to what this entailed, at first, as GAAP has now changed to Class D (as is Procedural TWR which we've just completed) and we're the first abinitio group to deal with this change.
All has been resolved, however, with the GAAP component being renamed "Urban D with Parallel Runways", enabling a tick to be placed in a box, so everyone is happy.
On track to finish up at the Academy early December.
