Well just finished my group testing day. Had a lot of fun. All very casual, and assessors were all very friendly and helpful. I feel I did ok, but only time will tell. At least the application process has finished - and I have done my best. My fingers are crossed.

Congrats on making it through the day bb. How do you think you went?

It took about a month after the assessment day before my referees were contacted, so I'm afraid you might be in for a bit of a wait.

I thought it went ok on the day. I did alright on the diagrammatic and visual tests. Group exercise - no idea. Interview went badly as always - hate behavioural style interviewing. I thought simulation went ok, but didn't pay any attention to the clock etc - so I am a bit worried I might have taken "too long". Just wait and see - my status has changed to "assessment day completed". Not sure if that is good or bad, others have said their status has changed to "merit list" or something similar?

Mine changed to assessment day complete afterwards as well. Maybe that's a positive sign then?

It just means somewhere on the computer system someone has acknowledged that you have attended an assessment day. Behind the scenes, busy bodies will be determining if you are a good fit for the organisation and whether you can complete the training and get your licence at the end of it. I would be worried if your status turned to awaiting outcome or similar.

Thanks for that. I am logging in every day to check. My referees know I am applying for work, but I don't want to tell them to "maybe" expect a call. Be nice to just forewarn them once I knew for sure.

If it helps, Airservices called me a few days before they contacted my referees to let me know they were going to. Not sure if this is standard practice, but I thought that was very nice.

In any case it didn't matter too much as I had tried to take the assessment day off as annual leave and my boss said "No, I need you here that day". I then had to tell him it was for a job. He hadn't realised I was looking so was a bit shocked, but at least when it came round to me telling him he'd get a call in the next week for a reference, he knew what it was for

Hi bb, It was the same for me as soontobeinmelbourne. They contacted me to advise they would be contacting my referee's and for me to let ASA know if there were any changes in details of the referee's. It was about 2 weeks later they contacted them.

OPQ

Hi all,

Thanks for the wealth of information, it's been such a great help with my application. I completed my OPQ last Thursday and am a bit worried I stuffed it up Has anyone failed or heard of anyone failing this assessment? What was your feedback? The wait is killing me!

I believe that its ASAs 100% goal is to move Sydney Approach to Melbourne. Therefore, training on the Melbourne enroute sectors surrounding Sydney would be the best path.

Waiting game

This waiting game is still killing me. I had my assessment day in Mid-September, referees called early October, was told about 2 weeks ago to go and get the medical tests done. Have nearly completed all the necessary tests and now waiting for CASA to issue my medical certificate.

My question is, at what stage will ASA officially offer me a position? do they now wait until the medical certificate has been issued? I am assuming now I have the position, pending successful medical, however I still have not been given any indication I have passed the selection process other than requesting me to complete the next stage.

Cheers.

Anon E Mouse,

I'd be giving them a call, or rereading where they said to get your medical certification. When I was offered a position 3 years ago, it was subject to my getting the class 3.

When is your course for? I have an assessment day in Feb for a May course..Seems like they are slowly getting behind the 8 ball. The staff in the background must be working the rear ends off..

Online Test

Hello all,
I've been informed that I will be contacted for my online test as the first stage. I'm really worried what to expect in that as I have not yet been given any clue. It will be really appreciated if someone could please let me know what to expect (what areas it covers, what sort of questions) and how the test takes place. Are they MCQs? Are there any questions on flying, meteorology or any other types?
Any sort of answer will be appreciated.
Thank you.

That's the thing. They haven't told me any start date at all. I went back and reread everything they've sent me, and nowhere have they given me any indication of a start date. Once I get the last bits of the medical sorted, I'll drop ASA an email and see what the go is.

Anon E Mouse,

I got told to get my medical on the 22 August. Completed and sent it to them on the 18th September and didn't hear a thing until I rung them on the 28 October where I was told my start date, Then got the Letter of Offer on the 29th October.

Only thing I can say is you're in for a wait. Good Luck

Hey guys, how long did it take for you to get your ARN. I got an email from airservices asking me to complete the medical, so applied for an ARN last Wednesday. Should I got ahead and book in my appointment with the DAME and hope it comes soon, or wait until I get the ARN? Cheers

Thanks big browna. That makes me feel better. Seems like your time line should match mine.

Ozziejim, it took exactly a week from sending my ARN application for me to receive the letter from CASA with my ARN. My advice is to wait until you get your ARN before you get the medical underway. it just makes all the paperwork easier, especially considering the turnaround from CASA was so good (I went through the ARN process earlier this month).
