mmcg, I must have missed that, but at my stage 1 there was people ranging from suits to a hoodie. It's not something you're going to be judged on.

wbatc, you just passed? When did you do it? I did stage 1 on the 20th and haven't heard back.

Hi,

Re the S1 motivation paper - I've read posts from a lot of people on this thread which say that you need to learn every detail of every aircraft in the PDF but one person said that this is going too far and you can estimate on the day. I have a feeling that this is not true?

I could learn every plane detail off by heart but I don't want to if it's not necessary.

Mike.

Two months should be ample time tkolekar. I took a week to prepare for mine. The thing with assessment one is - you either can do it or you can't do it. The first part is your NATS knowledge from the pdf file. Someone further up doubted how much detail you should learn it in - the thing is if I said just learn the FL's of the different aircraft and they then asked how many seats were in a 747 then I would look pretty stupid - so learn ALL of the pdf and you will be ok. The numeracy test is mainly speed/distance/time calculations requiring a reasonable understanding of basic arithmetic - no calculators allowed. After those two tests - if you have failed them you will be sent home. The spatial reasoning test is exactly as described previously with the cubes. I guess the assessors are looking for accuracy here rather than fully completing the test. If you rush through all 40(?) of the questions in the time required but only get 20 of them right then I would think the assessors would take a dimmer view than if you only answered 25 of them in the same amount of time but still got 20 right. Obviously, to be an ATC you need to get it right a VERY high percentage of the time! The diagramming test will I think be assessed in the same way. If it helps, I think I answered 23/40 and 33/50 on the two respective tests and I was ready to bang my head on the table at the end! - I aint got a clue how many I got right though

Timings

Hi,

Could someone let me know how long the 2nd stage assessments take? (i.e 2/3hrs?)
I live in Southern England however the next assessment dates for centres in my region aren't now until Sep so I'm aiming for Prestwick in a couple of weeks.

It would be helpful to know so I can arrange suitable flight travel!

Also if I were lucky enough to be successful, would future assessment days have to take place in Prestwick since thats where I undertook initial testing?

If someone could advise I would be most grateful!

Cheers

@michael2424

It says on the NATS website that the 2nd stage takes place in Whiteley. Is this wrong or are you actually talking about the 1st stage?

I reckon Michael is getting mixed up. I just checked and all my second stage dates were being held at Whiteley. Maybe he thinks stage one is the online test he did first.

Stage one takes about 2-3 hours by the way

Smile Starting on course 225

Just got a start date for the college!

I'm to be joining course 225 on Sept 29th- which is in only 8 weeks away!! If anybody else starting on that course has any info about accomodation or anything else i would really appreciate it. I'm pretty nervous and would love to chat to anyone that is going to be on the course with me.

I and did my stage 1 at the end of November 2009, so it's been about 10 months from applying to getting on a course for me (i know a lot of people ask that question

Good luck everybody who has assessments coming up (michael2424- the 2nd stage takes most of the day, you do about 2-3 hours of of computer tests, then have lunch, then there is about another 2 hours in the afternoon- i was there from about 9am-3pm if i remember correctly. Very informal though- wear comfortable clothes)

Azabeth

Hi Azabeth

If you're on facebook search for the group 'NATS 225 aerodrome', there are quite a few people on there who will be on your course. Also, the NATS departure lounge has a list of accomodation on it.

As for dress code at stage 2, I wouldn't necessarily say wear 'comfortable' clothes, as different people find different things confortable, I wore black shoes and trousers plus a shirt-smart or casual would do. Other people wore less smart clothes but you always want to make a good impression.

Azabeth, have you been pencilled in for the october course for a while or have you recently been moved onto that one?
