NATS exhibiting in DXB Jun7-9
Why don't some of you go and have a chat with the NATS folk manning their exhibit at forthcoming Airport Expo at DXB Airport June 7-9?
Should provide some amusment for someone, even if no firm information will be forthcoming...

Sharpen Up NAKNIK
The company is called Safeskys not Skysafe.
It has been established for 11 years, it hasn't given up trying, it is probably your best bet for a decent ATC job and hopefully will get there...one day. An ATC company run and managed by ATCOs- now is that a good idea or would you rather have bean counters ?
Safeskys entered a bid against Serco 5 years ago for this contract and went through the same saga which NATS is now going through.
It takes many years and lots of influence to establish relationships in the Middle East. NATS have not acquired that skill or level of contacts/influence yet. Sadly, Serco are safe.
Business in the Middle east is very different from European business you know, or perhaps you don't, Niknak.

working atco - my humble apologies, I was so busy trying to find out exactly where you have any contracts to provide atcos, or if it comes to it, any atc staff, I nearly went to sleep.
Your regular bulletins to UK units boasting at your abilities in scaring birds are very interesting and reflect very well on the staff who are daft enough to work for you, but it says an awful lot about you as an ATC provider - bugger all
It is noticeable that you didn't even put in a bid for the most recent major atc contract, nor have you won a major contract to provide the complete atco provision at a major UK or European airport in your companies history, perhaps you have finally recognised your own limitations.

I see from the list of exhibitors at the Dubai bash (http://www.theairportshow.com) that there's no sign of Serco - or even a company name that could be Serco. They weren't there last year either. A sign of their arrogance perhaps??

How many ATCO's are employed by Safeskys and where? Personally never heard of this major ATC provider.
And best bet for an ATC job. Why, what do they pay radar qualified staff? Probably not a lot, so maybe not the best bet for an ATC job.

Abu Dhabi contract
Sunday Telegraph breaks news on Abu Dhabi contract
The business section of the Sunday Telegraph seems to think that NATS has been awarded the Abu Dhabi contract.
Extract from article on "Nats lands safely with £2m profit"
buried in paragraph 4 is the following:-
"The airports business is growing and recently won a contract to manage flights from Abu Dhabi airport."
However, nothing mentioned on the NATS web site yet. Is this journalistic licence or should we all start packing our sunnies?

The Telegraph has been a bit "previous" on earlier occasions with business news. I'm not going to hold my breath (went a funny colour last time).
I'll wait for the "all NATS" e-mail or an announcement on NATSNet.
Chickens, eggs, counting ......
On another tack - I don't suppose the article mentioned which side of the business had either made, or contributed most to, the profit?

But the unions latest newlsletter says that Prospect have withdrawn from the talks, as anyone who applies would basically have to resign for NATS, sign for a new NATS company ("NATS Middle East"?) and not have any union rights as Abu Dhabi doesn't allow Unions.
A step forward??

The original trawl mentioned that staff volunteering for Abu Dhabi/Al Ain would have their pensions looked after and a guaranteed job with "NATS UK" (my inverted commas) at the end of their tour.
IF NATS has been successful with the contract it will be interesting to see how they can release enough staff to make any difference to the existing compliment and how much are they going to pay to make it worthwhile?
