Looks a bit like Wanaaring, but it doesn't have a sealed runway, just one covered with sharp rocks that leave dents under the Aero Commander's belly.

All the various markers are lying white side down, so they would most likely be not visible from the air, so the runway could be OK to go.

Trent, it adds weight and drag.

Side skirts lower ground clearance.

Cost had nothing to do with it, and I prefer it without them actually.

BRZ can't beat the GTS interior finish. BRZ spec inbetween GT and GTS more or less. GTS is the ducks nuts IMHO :E

For those who want topless it is already in the pipeline. Turbo might be also but people forget it's not all about speed with this car - it is as much about handling, which kind of brings us back to the AN2 for aviation content. I bet it is, shall we say, a little less 'perky' in its handling?!

Shame you have to half-remove the engine on the 86 to change the spark plugs - I think that job would be easier on the AN2 but then, there would be a few more to change...

Jabawocky
7th May 2013, 19:31
GTS is the ducks nuts IMHO

And the GTS is what it is. Hard to tell from the outside, subtle difference.

AN2 is not perky....quirky it is but its handling on the ground is even jaba proof! As much as that will surprise a few :}

And it has a good load of grass darts too! They were everywhere the other day, crazy!

There was a superb and not often seen aspect of the Temora Spitfire VIII looking down from the "Crew Lounge" mezzanine floor (above and behind - an Axis fighter pilot's dream view) but it was always obstructed by hordes of punters so I didn't bother....

I like to say ...ill.
A bit of an issue with breathing...at 5000m :{

But thanks to an excellent Travel Insurance Policy and surprisingly good medical attention in Kathmandu, a full recovery.

Funny thing about the flight. You probably can't see it, but the pilot is sucking on an oxygen bottle and I'm sucking on nothing. I was, to a degree, acclimatised to 60% oxygen levels. Whereas he had flown straight up from sea level. I believe that if he had stepped out of the helicopter without his bottle, he could have lost consciousness very quickly. Goes to show how the body can adapt fairly quickly (albeit, over a 5 day period) to these things.

new hotness...

why would people even consider an old 77 model, burning 45 ltr or more an hour for similar speeds, but half the range.

similar convo was had in the hangar with the turbine bonanza conversion

why bother with an old ship like that, when a nice RV will do the job at a fraction of the cost.. even a Cirrus!

That Pipistrel pictured above will cost at a guess $180k+

The Mooney was sub $40k.

Yep Airvan in the pic, an easy one that one. Nice set of landing lights on them.

atually, the pipistrel with certified engine, TSO garmin glass, at current exchange rate of $1.45Au to the Euro, about $170K. base model, about 140K.

how much was that Mooney new?

and why is a new 182 the same aircraft designed in the 70's??

dont mind me, just cant understand why a 2010 C182 still has a carby, and is hard to start on a cold winters wet morning.. and burns 45Ltrs/hour to cruise at 130 kts.

Pipistrel
Mooney
C182

To be fair we are not comparing aircraft of the same age or mission profile.

Pipistrel = 2 seats and little else.

Old Mooney = 4 seats and cheap to buy... running costs ?

C182 = 4 seats or a heavy load carrying utility.

I hope the 'Pipistrel' designers have thought about deicing? With those sorts of performance figures (especially altitude) and IFR it is going to encourage some people to get themselves into a whole lot of trouble...

Ultralights
24th Jun 2013, 03:01
standard Pipistrel kits are not IFR, or have any anti icing,though it does have heated pitot as standard. but the avionics package i had in mind would be IFR rated, and built to meet all IFR requirements, which explains the high cost. ill have to send another email to ask about anti ice fitment. dont see how it can be done without boots or elements somewhere.

anyways, my original point for ****es and giggles..
Old technology Vs New technology

Its time for the old dinosaurs and the old boys to get with the times and fly something modern.

Yer not in the recreational aircraft forum here. Around here many have other requirements of their aircraft..:)

After removing all the pax seats i've had the ripper ram off a large bulldozer in the back of a nice flat floored C182 - Please do show me the modern equivalent...

The absurdity of that post is that many of todays senior airline Captains built their career from single pilot Embraer Bandeirante Reg 203 operations in Talair, Maslings etc in the 1970s.

For it's time, the Embraer EMB110 Bandeirante, along with the DHC6 Twin Otter, were two of the world's best supplementary airline aircraft.

From the photo above I think those three lovelies would struggle to achieve a sum of IQ in double numbers. May just make it if you include the dude in the middle! :}

The Bandit did a remarkable job and the -34's were a couple of Messrs Pratt & Whitney's finest. One of the world's most outstanding light commuter aircraft.
