I see that there is an employment agency seeking E195 F/Os for six month UK based contracts for next summer. I may be putting two and two together to get five, but one has to guess that this is linked to potential return of some sun routes for Summer 2015 and use of (some of) the dormant E195s. It would seem odd to lease in an Airbus when you are taking a significant charge for parking your own E195s. Even though they are leased at reportedly high rates, Flybe are still paying for them - so may as well fly some if there is work on which they can be gainfully employed.

The storred 195s at NQY are all being cared for by apple aviation including engine runs etc so could re-enter service with very short notice I would guess.

195s coming back into service ?

More inconsistences & contradictions ?

Who knows ?

Lord Spandex Masher 2nd December 2014 18:18

A 319/320 can be leased for about two thirds of the lease cost of the 195.

Shame that an Airbus won't fit in with the latest Flybe fad of regional/90 minute high frequency sectors.

You people are absolutely unbelievable. The reason there maybe contractors working for us next year is purely down to the fact that we are short of crew already. We haven't got enough ejet crews as it is. Nothing official has come out of the company on the use of contract pilots for next year, the union is looking at it closely, there was a large gap in personnel to fly the ejets but this has been plugged with a type rating course recently. You've only got to look at how many hours the ejet crews are working every month.
kcockayne, read into it what you want, speculate all you want, spin your rhetoric on it all you want, you obviously are a wind up merchant.
I'm out of this thread. Good luck.

Deano777

Why are you short of crews ?

Could it be because the new management made a number of them redundant ?

virginblue 3rd December 2014 09:35

Maybe because E-Jets crews feel that the long-term prospects of working for Flybe are not exactly promising give that the EJets have fallen out of favour with the new management - and they jump ship if offers come along? Just a thought....

Deano777 3rd December 2014 09:43

virginblue, careful with your common sense & factual replies, they won't go down well.

fairflyer 3rd December 2014 12:01

See Flybe suggesting they should fly into NHT, trouble is, if compliant with civil regs, runway might be a lot shorter, won't get a lot in, or out for that matter.

RHS 3rd December 2014 14:46

Haven't seen that rumour but Northolt is 1600m, 200m longer than the current shortest on the network Waterford.

fairflyer 3rd December 2014 20:48

If NHT complied with civil regs, runway will be shorter. Doesn't comply with RESA (runway end safety) requirements today. Worse case is that it would have to revert to a Code 2B runway which means max LDA would be 1199m. That's pretty short even for Q400 and kills jet operations dead.

Set 1013 3rd December 2014 22:27

LCY is 1199m. No problem for a Q400 there or the E170 & E190 So it wont be a problem for NHT.

Calmcavok 4th December 2014 03:50

I'm sure that I've heard in the past that every arrival at Northolt is considered by ATC as a Heathrow arrival due to the proximity and separation requirements.

If that is the case, it surely puts the kibosh on a significant operation in/out of South Ruislip regional? Perhaps a curved RNP-AR approach from the north might be an enabler? Though whether the Q400 is so equipped, I'm not sure. Or whether anybody of any authority might make a decision to pony up the cash to do such a thing...

Is it not 1508m?

For those who haven't seen the article itself Flybe calls for domestic flights from South Ruislip's RAF Northolt until new runway built at Heathrow or Gatwick - Business News - Business - London Evening Standard

Deano777 4th December 2014 23:15

LDA for both Rwy 09 & 27 is 1319m

davidjohnson6 4th December 2014 23:22

Let us suppose Northolt was opened to commercial passenger traffic for a few years. Which airline would likely be the primary beneficiary given the current physical constraints such as runway length and no significant expenditure on transport links (ie no people transit or new roads) ? Would the biggest beneficiary be Flybe by any chance, in the hope of pinching some traffic from BA and Aer Lingus ? Could this therefore all be a bit of rather subjective public spin by a company with very specific interests ?

Set 1013 5th December 2014 11:13

Ok I stand corrected, TORA is 1199 at city. The point is that a Q400 can manage with that distance.

TartinTon 5th December 2014 14:28

davidjohnson....err yes, of course it is! Not sure what your point is? Why shouldn't Flybe seek to get a competitive advantage due to their use of the Q400?

davidjohnson6 5th December 2014 15:14

tartin - my point is that anyone at a senior level in Govt is going to see right through this as spin and ignore it without some kind of objective independent advice to say commercial passenger ops at Northolt is a good idea.

TartinTon 5th December 2014 15:52

But to be fair to them, maybe it does partly solve a problem. If you can take LON destination domestic traffic out of LHR and route them through NHT there could be the possibility of slots being opened up for longhaul traffic. Connections to central London are there through Ruislip and Hillingdon so although self-serving, it could be an interim move.
