At the moment Anglesey Airport lays empty and it would be great if Manx2 starts operating flights there.

What routes could be viable from Anglesey under the Manx2 brand?

Kavs8 28th April 2010 18:11

CWL, DUB, LCY, LGW, LTN, STN, IOM, LPL, MAN, BHD ?

remember Manx2 operate 19 seater aircraft, if you operated DUB twice-weekly im sure there would be revenue there or even LGW :ok:

mathers_wales_uk 28th April 2010 18:18

Im not 100% certain on london airports as the costs maybe too expensive to operate. However i agree that BHD, DUB & CWL possibly IOM

Daffydil 28th April 2010 18:56

Lets see Manx2 and the WAG confirm the Cardiff route first. There is potential out of VYL but a lot needs to be done to get the RAF to allow the civvies to play on a level field - if you get my drift.

Flightrider 28th April 2010 19:25

Civil ops at RAF Valley are limited to a time window at the beginning and end of each day. I would think that the prospect of being able to operate in/out of Valley outside those windows is pretty remote.

If the Welsh Government has said that the decision has been deferred but M2 have published a schedule on their website which looks suspiciously like Cardiff-Valley, I can't think that the WG will be too happy about it. Pretty stupid thing to do.

learjet50 28th April 2010 19:31

Re Valley

As stated

Valley was only opened up beacause of the WG

There is no way whatsoever Valley will extend there current hours

So Lets put to bed Valley a new domestic Airport JUST wont happen

Valley-Cardiff-Valley 2 Daily Mon-Fri was a major breakthrough and only because of WG pressure

Well the whole idea of the 3 year subsidy of Cardif - Anglesey was for it to become comercially viable operation.

The Welsh Assembly Government at the end of the three year subsidy placed another 4 year tender for airlines to bid for but on a minimum of 29 seat aircraft. All interested parties except for Highland Airways withdrew their bid and Welsh Assembly Government were going to allow them to carry on until. Highland Airways then went bust so they had to put the tender out again. This time a 7 month period on a 18 seater. Rumours have gone round that Direkflyg were due to operate the route.

The Welsh Assembly Government has had a lot of stick from the Conservatives & Liberal Democrats saying that this route at current fares are not comercially viable and so has a lot of other aviaiton specialists.

Initially when CWL-VLY service was launched it was said that approx up to 20 flights a day could be handled out of VLY. (can't remember the exact figure).

Wouldn't it be a good situation for the Welsh Assembly Government if they didn't have to offer a whole subsidy but part subsidise the route if Manx2 wanted to take it on.

Hi Galway/Belfast was tried before and did not work poor loads so what has change this timehttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...icons/umph.gif

Kavs8 28th April 2010 22:47

Well its a 19 seater aircraft compared to the 79 seater Flybe?

TwinAisle 29th April 2010 06:47

VLY. Let's see. Water on three sides. Mountains to the south east. Limited population.

So miserably small catchment area.

Airfield with major operating restrictions. Even better.

Face up to the fact - this is a no hoper. The only way ANY route will survive from VLY is via massive (MASSIVE) public subsidy, which is no way to run a service, or an economy. If you want to run a host of services, fine, get the WAG to pay. Aren't I glad I don't pay UK tax?

WAG have no interest in making this commercially viable, since (a) they know they can't, and (b) it is little more than an AM Express.

An expensive and pointless luxury that we could all do without.

Would Manx not look at the opportunity at WAT? If you look at it there's over half a million of a catchement. I think a twice daily to DUB would work out extremely well and possibly a connection with CWL 4 times weekly. There's a lot of scope at WAT and the fees are cheap. I don't understand why more smaller airlines don't look at it as a credible airport.

CP.

jetstreamtechrecords 29th April 2010 08:07

ORK GLO or Waterford GLO would do really well.

globetrotter79 29th April 2010 08:52

Looking at the schedules page of the M2 website, the following appear:

BFS-GWY
BFS-ORK

and what appears to be a one-off (proving flight?) CWL-VLY on Tuesday 04 May...

jetstreamtechrecords 29th April 2010 10:00

Im now told there used to be a GLO- Waterford previously. does anyone know the details:confused:

fredtheanorak 29th April 2010 10:07

it was in a Bandeirante about 4 years ago.:ok: Latest word I heard from Fraggle was that Manyx2 were starting IOM EDI 2x daily and IOM Carlisle single daily, going on down to SEN commence AUG:eek:

Tinwald 29th April 2010 10:18

Fred fella, if this all works out for this Hayes I'll be ready to eat my kipper but I get the feeling this could all end in tears. All he has to do is issue the tickets cos at the end of the day its not his aircraft and crews who have to do the donkey work. This niche market seeking is all well and good but some of those niches can get just too small. Good luck to the Hayes fella but i think he's trying to have is cake and eat it. Thers only so much you can do as a ticketing agent with no control of your hardware. It does allow him though to play around the routes at no risk to him.:D

ALLMCC 29th April 2010 10:35

If BFS -ORK happens it will almost certainly kill the RE service from BHD which is already down to 1X daily.

The Flybe BHD - GWY was operated by a 36 seater Dash 200 and even then the loads were poor because there was no demand.

dublindispatch 29th April 2010 10:44

RE more or less have the domestic market in Ireland to themselves at the moment, EuroCeltic did try WAT-DUB, i remember it came it and outof DUB with 2 maybe 3 passengers. Even SNN-DUB has been tried by many and ALL failed.

But holes do appear in the Irish market that due to surface transportation time and population numbers with the corect a/c type and timings wud maybe work: ORK-LDY, BFS/BHD(take your pick)-SNN and i would suspect that givin the right timings and the high number of Dutch and German tourists that use the area, BHD-St Angelo.

Manx2 seem to be the last niche operater in the British Isles and im sure they would be best placed to give the above a go.

Flightrider 29th April 2010 11:27

The on-line timetable in the Manx2 website has disappeared and left only the printed version available as a PDF. I wonder if someone has spotted that a cock-up of huge proportions has been made and pulled the ability to download a real-time timetable from their website. :)

Fred - would be surprised if they go head-to-head with anyone out of IOM which a 2 x daily IOM-EDI most definitely would be. I thought things had calmed down between Manx2 and Flybe since last year's spat. Surely it would not be sensible for Manx2 to inflame that again?

mmeteesside 29th April 2010 11:52

Any chance of some routes from DTV? A Cork or Gloucester would go down well....
