Anyone know the reason for the 2 Portuguese arrivals over the last month. Earlier this month there was the Luzair 763 CS-TQI which stayed at Cardiff over the 'ash' closure, it appeared to depart to Brize Norton. Yesterday a A310 from Hifly CS-TEX arrived. Anybody know the reasons?

It could be the MOD flight to one of the southern islands (St Helena or Ascenion) Whichever has the airport. I know the MOD used to use Air Luxor in the past but not sure who they use now ;-)

I think the 'southern' charter is operating quite regularly now ex-Brize Norton on an Air Seychelles B767 operating the route Brize-Ascension-Falklands.
Probably the reason for the Portuguese aircraft is more likely to be troop movements to/from the middle east |

New operator for North-South air link announced Manx2.com, along with its partner carrier FLM Aviation, have been appointed as the new operator for the North-South air link, the Welsh Assembly Government announced today (Thursday 29 April). The Cardiff to Anglesey service will resume on Monday 10 May and passengers will be able to make bookings shortly. Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones said: "I am pleased to announce that Manx2 will be running the north - south air link from 10 May. This is a vital service which helps to secure economic, social and political cohesion in Wales, as well as supporting economic development in north-west Wales. I made a commitment that the Assembly Government would take action to maintain this service and we have now achieved this. Noel Hayes, Chairman of Manx2.com, said:“As I have said before, the Cardiff to Anglesey service has been hugely popular, with passenger numbers far exceeding our expectations. Manx2 is an established operator with a proven track record, who already has experience of operating the service from those occasions when Highland Airways had operational difficulties. The Assembly Government is committed to maintaining this vital service and we look forward to working with Manx2 to build on its success”. “As a Celtic neighbour, Manx2.com is delighted to have been chosen to reconnect Cardiff and Anglesey. With our home base just 50 miles away across the Irish Sea, we’re excited about the prospect of bringing our award-winning service and our record of reliability and punctuality to this essential community route”. Manx2 has been appointed to operate the service for seven months. The Welsh Assembly Government will shortly be undertaking a further tendering exercise at the European level to appoint an operator for a four-year contract. |
With a bit of luck Manx2 will be the winner of the 4 year contract. I am sure that they will be more keen than Highland were to get the aircraft off the ground during the afternoon/evening and on weekends to keep the money ticking over.
I would be suprised if they would start a route or two for 7 months though |

Yeah, it's been confirmed by Aeros. Operations Director has said
“We are confident that we can deliver a first class GA operation for pilots in South Wales. The facilities at Cardiff are excellent and we are looking forward to commencing activities on 1st June. Local pilots will be able to enjoy the use of Aeros twenty five strong fleet of aircraft including Piper Warriors/Arrows, Cessna 152’s and Robins...The building on the south side of the airport has a café, ample free parking and a great view of the runway. We invite any existing or potential pilots to call in and see us at any time seven days a week or phone us on 01446 710000. Friends and family are also very welcome." Wonder whether it will be the PPL side of things like their Filton base or Commercial like Gloucester? Nothing on their main website yet though. Regardless, it's great news for Cardiff. |
Manx2 CWL-VLY flights are now on sale, same times as when Highland operated it, no flights on the weekend.

Haven't heard the advert. But looking at the 2011 brochure, the last pages show UK departure points, which include nearly all regional airports, including CWL. Its a codeshare with KLM and Martinair via AMS.

Their website doesnt show CWL as a dept point, but does show BRS. :confused:

BRS is with Continental for 2010. For 2011 CWL is KLM/Martinair.
It looks like they use alot of carriers from various UK airports. (Virgin/Delta/Continental/Martinair/US Airways) The only direct flights being VS, the rest being connections. |
A VS A330 across the Atlantic? That could interest the CAA. ETOPS anyone?
