I pray to god they advertise it, else it'll fall flat on it's arse like GNB amongst others...lets bring back PRG!!! At last, a glimmer of hope for CWL. :)

It's a shame that they haven't started it for the summer, but good news tho!! Let's just hope it 'takes-off'!

Whilst this is good news for CWL, it can be guaranteed the big oranges buses that fly from the other side of the bridge, or Ryanair will now announce the route from BRS in a couple of weeks. They will make damn sure that no German flights, or any other flights for that matter will succeed from CWL. Either way, I will be booking up tickets for the Christmas markets in Munich and Salzburg in December, they are fantastic! Lets hope Baby and the airport really advertise this one. MUC was run before and was popular but did not fit into their strategy. This maybe different now Lufthy are on the scene. Maybe Cologne/Bonn, Dusseldorf and Berlin next.

The issue is what will happen come Summer 2011? If we are to remain a 2 based aircraft there will be no room for the Munich flight.
What is needed is consistency and i'm sure WW could get the aircraft doing charter work throughout the winter in order to ensure funds coming in. |
Agreed that WW could easily fill routes with 3 based A/C.
How is the 4U fleet looking for the winter? Are WW merely opening the route for 4U to take over in the summer should they have a lack of a/c in the winter? Perhaps they will do the same with other German cities too have WW open them up and then 4U take over. I know it is all technically the same company but how many people in the South Wales catchment area know who 4U are? Would cost a hell of a lot more on advertising to make themselves known, whereas WW are established. :ok: |

Airport extension plan is approved A SCHEME for a multi-million-pound extension to the terminal at Cardiff Airport has been approved. Work on the project to improve the appearance of the airport will begin later this year. Approval of the plans by Vale of Glamorgan councillors came as plans for a dedicated bus service to the airport were announced. The £5m-plus improvement will see the arrivals and departures halls linked into one large area, with new food and retail premises, and the building will get a contemporary design. The first floor of the terminal will become “airside” as the security control point to access the departures lounge is relocated to the first floor. The approach area in front of the terminal building will also be redesigned. Meanwhile, Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones has approved the specification for a dedicated airport express bus service. It will be a limited-stop service between Cardiff Airport and Cardiff city centre. |

EI-REO and EI-REL aircraft both in CWL today with EI-REL making two visits. I hear that Aer Lingus may not be too pleased with them using the aircraft before the launch date.

Ah well at least there's the new radar to look at.....going round and round even if its' not transmitting yet. And would someone kindly point out to Russ C that youre not supposed to park technically armed aeroplanes (2 of Her Majesty's Tornado's) pointing at civilisation....just in case something goes bang y'know. ttfn |
Is it true that the CWL boarding announcements will be automated from the start of May? Anyone know?

It is possible however not heared of anything myself. Could be something raised during the Airport Consultative Committee Meeting on monday evening.
I suppose we have to wait for the minutes if it is true then we will hear more over the next month. |
I can confirm that an automated boarding announcement system should be in place by May. It is to be provided by the same suppliers of the system at Bristol and London-Luton airports, I believe the company is SimpleVox (correct me if I'm wrong). The software will also be able to make the announcements in the lanuage related to the destination (if it isn't English), except Welsh, unfortunately, as this will [apparently] require a £50,000 'add-on'...!

I was speaking to a member of staff today who is involved with this and they were saying that it will be installed in May and controlled through the fids, which will be placed at every boarding gate. They were also saying that it can do it in a variety of languages. Hope it's true!
