Yes, Air France Concorde operated in Summer 1980 - chartered by Cwmbran Travel taking passengers to Paris for a few days. I've got a picture somewhere of it.

Oh, and by the way - my numbers in #2228 - I was being generous. I didn't add in all the costs of subsidising Valley airport and redeveloping it for the airlink - so the 1.2m cost to the taxpayer in Year One is actually 2.7m....

Now what was the cost of the DL service again?

If, as the adage says, you get the Government you deserve, then the good people of Wales must have been very, very bad....

Baby Summer 2011 and CWL
 

From what I can see, we will need a 3rd aircraft for next summer with 3 departures some mornings between 6-7am, Edinburgh becoming 2 daily and maybe Belfast staying. Also room for new routes.
This is for the week 6th June. Routes such as MAH increase to 3 weekly later in summer.

Baby aren't about to put a third aircraft, they haven't actually got, into CWL to operate one flight a day ! Chop the MUC and you're back to a two aircraft schedule quite easily. From what I have been told Baby are just about hanging in there in the eyes of the Germans. They are going to have to do a hell of a lot better before the Germans let them expand again. Hard in this market especially with the fickle Welsh filling the Easy jets and Ryanairs at BRS for fares that probably save them less than the bridge fee and petrol money ! A few changes at the top will help and a bit more local advertising and support wouldn't go a miss either ! But a third aircraft extremely unlikely.

Religiousness over :p I agree, all CWL orientated people (including me) are excited at the chance of a 3rd based aircraft again for summer 2011, yes, don't get me wrong, it'll be a welcome and desperate return for CWL [as long as Mr Carr and gang see it as that] but it isn't definate at the moment because as soon as (and if) the MUC goes it's perfect for 2!

I had brought my cousin back from AGP yesterday into BRS. I asked him why he didn't travel with baby from CWL and he said even with the travel and parking costs at BRS and flying with EZY it was still between £80-£100 cheaper than flying from CWL. :ugh:

Cardiff Airport - Station bus to continue until at least October
 

The Deputy First Minister has welcomed news that the shuttle bus service linking Rhoose train station and Cardiff Airport will continue throughout the summer and beyond.

Cardiff Airport last month announced that the bus link, which has been provided free of charge, was regrettably being withdrawn. Since that time the Welsh Assembly Government have worked closely with Cardiff Airport and the local Council to explore how this important service could be retained, and have now announced that an agreement has been reached.

The Minister for Economy and Transport has expressed his delight that the service would continue to run, with no charge, until 31 October 2010.

“This service has proved to be extremely valuable, and has given people far greater choice in how they get to and from Cardiff Airport. I am therefore very pleased to confirm that our investment will enable the shuttle to continue.” Mr Jones said.
“The effort shown by all parties further underlines a joint commitment to the delivery of a sustainable public transport system for Wales.”

Cllr Jeff James, Vale council Cabinet member for planning and transportation, said: “I’m very pleased that the airport shuttle bus will now continue to run with help from the Vale of Glamorgan Council. It’s an important transport link in the Vale and one which we wish to see maintained in the future. It’s our partnership with the Welsh Assembly Government and Cardiff Airport that has made this possible.”

Steve Hodgetts, business development director at Cardiff Airport commented, “This is an excellent example of a partnership approach leading to an agreeable solution and all should be commended for the effort. We look forward to this approach leading to further improvements in public transport access for Cardiff Airport.”
The Assembly Government has agreed to provide funding of around £25,000 per year, as well £7,500 from the local authority. Cardiff Airport will provide the existing vehicle for use on the service until the end of October 2010.

This temporary arrangement will provide time for us to look at more sustainable options for keeping the service in the long term.

The contract to operate the service will be retained by the incumbent operator, Veolia Transport Cymru to 30th June 2010 and discussions are ongoing between all parties to secure the service until 31st October 2010.

Why the excitement ???

This must be the most expensive bus route, per capita, in Wales / UK. Myself, colleagues have rarely seen more than 2/3 people aboard and they were usually CWL staff located in Rhoose Point.
Somebody should work out how much per mile this is costing council tax, airport users etc in comparison to the daily Manx 2 trip to Anglesey which has brought much derision from some quarters here....

I suppose they will pay to keep this link going until the new Cardiff Airport shuttle starts which at the moment is planned for the autumn.

This woould be a dedicated bus from Cardiff Airport to the City Centre at every 30 minutes.

Mark my words...
Within 6 months this too will be pulled... What is the advantage of smelly, expensive, polluting and the user unfrienldiness of this bus transport that doesn't work 2 miles away as now, being 12 miles away in Cardiff using the same roads as anyone in the comfort of their own car to get to an airport - any new bus that may attract a few passengers would need to be new, eco friendly etc and cost in excess of 150k... no brainer. ???

CWL needs to talk to airlines and get them to take a few risks (and vice versa) NOT bus companies / bus manufacturers.

Why is CWL concerned with the bloody bus???? What's the point when you hardly have any movements all day? CWL needs to attract airlines which is fails to do on a enormous scale. CWL does well driving airlines away and sends them to BRS.

CWL forget about trying to get a bus service going and concentrate on what you are......a airport!! Airports require airlines to survive not a local bus company, leave that to the local council.

CWL is a much nicer airport than BRS and it's a shame seeing it go to the dogs. Money wasted big time on unimportant things. Frustrating.

I think that airports do need buses. After all, people's journeys start and finish at homes/offices/hotels, not airports. The best option is to have a bus interchange next to the airport for all the local buses; people then realise how easy it is to get to the airport by bus from the local towns, and will be less likely to use rival airports further away that they'd previously thought were easier to get to. It's important also to remember visiting inbound passengers, who won't be collected by friends or family, but will rely on public transport to get them to the town/city.

Busess to railway stations are a dsitraction here!

What does Patrick plan to do to bring sustained improvments in terms of pax numbers to CWL?

No, more signs to confuse the airport travelling public on the approach roads.

problems with cwl there not enough low cost flights thats where the bus comes in. what flights we have got there a fair few hours apart from each other cwl always looks empty for a good few hours at a time
