R.I.P Blackpool International Airport - If this report is true.

Jet2 is the lifeblood off BLK, they go - Then the airport will just be a base for IOM carriers.

Could Flybe not do the abandoned Ryanair route though, without impinging on the Jet2 routes?.

Not much to discuss really.

Too late for a summer long charter series but a series of high season ad-hoc charters is the best you can hope for.

Blackpool must be a good little earner for Jet2, so I think it would be rather foolish to compromise a carrier that can now be described as established, with duplication of routes.

having read that comment on the same forum you have ,the words tongue in cheek are pretty obvious!!

MUFC_fan 4th February 2009 07:35

Bob Stinger,

I did get the jist of it but it does brig up a few questions as to whether we will see another LCC, maybe flying to other destinations than LS.

take-off 4th February 2009 08:19

Well, I think we can all agree that it won't be the flying harp lady back in blk, at least not anytime soon, and guys lets not knock manx2 so quick eh? theyve done blk a service, lets hope that they and flybe(loganair) can sit happily next to each other, whos knows maybe with flybe moving in , the airport will pick some more travellers up off lpl. As for a new larger carrier, would imagine if any charter was to re-appear it would be a tom/fca combo, as exeter seem to have a good relationship with them, at moment i think any new routes should be welcomed, or at least given chance, albeit a different destination to those already served would have been better:ugh:

Just out of interest , does anyone think TCX would ever use blk?

Have good day guys(and gals!!):ok:

FS01 4th February 2009 14:25

Can't see Manx2 and Loganair co-existing on the route beyond the end of the summer season.. if not sooner. There are not enough pax on route to split between 2 carriers. It has happened too many times on other routes out of IOM. Would be good to see Manx2 stay as the operator on this route

scrapy 4th February 2009 14:40

The fee in Jamaica is a government imposed departure tax

MUFC_fan 4th February 2009 14:40

If I am going to be straight, the North West benefits more as the plane is based at BLK while the Manx people maybe affected if it means Manx2 come off of the route.

I would like Manx2 to stay but for the sake of my local economy I would prefer BE to come out trumps but ONLY if they are actually going to stay which I would find unlikely.

Manx2 need to keep fighting!:D

just like the old spacegrand days of the 80's
Who of course merged with Jersey European, re-branded as British European and the re-branded as Flybe

From Wiki

Flybe started operations on 1 November 1979 as Jersey European Airways (JEA), after taking over the operations of Intra Airways. Jersey European Airways was the brainchild of John Habin, a resident of Jersey and the majority investor in JEA. Having sold Aviation Beauport and other business interests, Habin established a few key routes from Jersey to the UK. Jersey European Airways was taken over in 1983 by Jack Walker's Walker Steel Group who were already the parent company of Blackpool based charter airline Spacegrand Aviation. The two airlines were run separately, with partially shared management, until their amalgamation within the Walker Aviation Group in 1985, under the Jersey European name. The airline rebranded as British European in June 2000 and later shortened this title to Flybe on 18 July 2002 and aimed to reposition itself as a full service, low-fare airline........

Judging by the comments on Manx 2's website, they ain't happy at all!

rufus.t.firefly 4th February 2009 22:09

Unfortunately Blackpool has had a habit of losing its carriers , it doesn't pay to upset your bread and butter income stream by jumping with glee at the thought of another carrier on an existing route ! the airport doesn't have enough carriers or regular tenants it can afford to lose at the moment through bad business relationship issues .

Not surprised Manx2 are hacked off - may be they should give the airport management a wake up call -it's not a good advert for business relationship
going forward !

The GA Community has been screwed at Blackpool - a regular source of income in the past , and given the amount of commercial traffic passing through the terminal at the moment it has an air of being in trouble - can't last at these levels surely as a viable concern. The only thing moving in the terminal is tumbleweed.

Anyone know how much £££ the airport's losing at the moment ?????:ugh:

As much as its good to see new carriers - for christ sake fly to different destinations :ugh::ugh:

MUFC_fan 4th February 2009 22:47

Having just read on the Loganair website, it says that it's crews overnight in some destinations. What I was wondering is whether there will actually be a based crew or will they fly:

Day 1:
GLA-IOM-BLK
BLK-IOM-BHD
BHD-IOM-BLK

Ovenight

Day2:
BLK-IOM-BHD
BHD-IOM-BLK
BLK-IOM-GLA

Or will there be an actual base in BLK like LS? Thanks

silverhawk 5th February 2009 09:34

It's not the airport's fault. They cannot block an airline that wants to open up a route in direct competition with another.

Deja vu. Only this time around it's Flybe who are trying to grab some of the cream. Trouble is, this will hurt both Manx2 and Flybe. There just isn't the volume to make profits for both airlines.

Sandgrown 5th February 2009 11:32

The way things are going, the place is going to be closed before the Summer schedule even gets off the ground! Now they've had to shut the radar (yet again, ATIS says "Radar is unserviceable"). More likely they've no staff left to run it!!

Surely. things can only get better....

Or is that Pie in the Sky????:ugh::ugh::ugh:

re Radar

Isn't it better to get the maintenance out of the way while it's quiet?

Runway and taxiway work starts in less than two weeks, finished before Jet2 Summer schedule begins near end of March.

Press release

Just seen sight of a press release regarding £1 million of runway and taxiway work at Blackpool - it would appear that the upgrades are finally starting to come through!:ok:

Sandgrown 5th February 2009 17:01

Time to up the ADF to £20, then!!!!!!!!!

;););)

All good stuff for the future maybe. But Blackpool Airport are supporting the comperition by Flybe against Manx2.

So it is the airports fault in a way silverhawk, falling over themselves to welcome Flybe when Manx2 have just announced a decent working profit on the IOM route.

If the runway is upgraded to allow for further destinations, I wonder how many airline BKP will approach to fly them. This airport really does shoot itself in the foot.
Jet2 is established at Blackpool, yet they are being challenged on the Belfast route it seems with the blessing of BKP:confused:.

Sandgrown 5th February 2009 19:00

Without intending to be too negative (you understand) the phrases "Beggars can't be Choosers" and "--up in a Brewery" seem to keep springing to mind when I think of Blackpool's airport and its' perpetually changing, if not struggling, owners.

How come nobody who is unfortunate enough to take possession of this great white elephant is ever able to see that the place is a Non-Runner. Always has been, always will be! Doesn't matter who owns it, or what experience they have, they'll always be flogging that Dead Horse.

I rest my case.
