This has gotta get past Manx OFT first. Not sure they want BE to have 100% of the routes from Ronaldsway to NW:E. Only alternative then would be the Steam Bucket:eek:..HELP:{:{

Maverick8701 2nd February 2009 18:19

Not too sure Flybe will have any probs with the OFT as this is not a Flybe route as such. Flybe have a franchise agreement with Loganair. But the flights are Loganair flights with Loganair aircraft also will be a direct BLK-BHD flight.

Anybody got any further info on this? Where the OFT would stand etc?

manx crab 2nd February 2009 19:11

The OFT can do nothing as there is no relevant legislation on the IOM.

MUFC_fan 2nd February 2009 20:57

By direct do you mean 'non-stop'?

I think you do but it will operate BLK-IOM-BHD as far as I know.

Also, as BLK-BHD (via IOM) is now 3 times daily, what will it mean for LS at BFS?

airhumberside 2nd February 2009 21:13

I cant find any mention of weekend flights from BLK by Loganair/BE. BLK airport press release only mentions weekday flights. So what does the aircraft do at weekends? Sit at Blackpool?

MUFC_fan 2nd February 2009 21:16

Do I dare throw JER up in the air?

Bob Stinger 3rd February 2009 00:41

Manx 2 might have a bit of a problem here, just picking a few random dates for a BPL-IOM-BPL Flybe come in around £30-40 cheaper thats with everything on!

Carnage

Will we never learn?

Once again too many operators will fight over a small but lucrative route.
Once again this will cause short-term lower fares and then somebody will go bust or pull off the route.

Just build a bridge and solve the problem!

TSR2 3rd February 2009 08:10

What aircraft type will operate the BPL-IOM-BPL Loganair/Flybe route ?

nick b 3rd February 2009 08:23

It will be an SF340.

Wonder what Jet2 will have to say about the belfast flights?

BACKTRACK28 3rd February 2009 09:26

It'll be like the days when Jersey European Sh360's did the same BLK-IOM-BHD route. It's a vote of confidence in the airport that they're basing a plane there, with all the costs that entails. Would be far cheaper for them to have it based on the IOM and route it from there. I also guess flying from BLK at 0715 (rather than around 0830 on Manx2) will please the business people.
It's a shame for Manx2 as they've carefully built up a good business, but they still have plenty of other niche routes to fall back on should the marketing power of Flybe push them off the BLK route over time.
I guess we can only hope that having a Flybe base will encourage them to start other routes in future? Dash8-400 to Gatwick?

jetstreamtechrecords 3rd February 2009 10:48

smell the coffee boys. This is BE tryin to push Manxy2 off BLK as they're hurtin BEs LPL. So stick in tame Franchise for the summer and then in October say. Sorry route closed for the winter. :{ Did it to Eastern on IOM SOU will do just the same again on BLK.

If this was BE helpin BLK airport it would have been BLK LTN. Ideal route for S340 and the airport would have chucked millions at em. :ok::ok: Nope this is just BE tryin to takeover the world:=

I hope BE arent as wrong about competition legislation as Manx Crab. Try this boyos IOMOFT - Fairtrading & Competition - Isle of Man Government Office of Fair Trading :O

To answer my own question. Now the timetable is out there are weekend flights between BLK and IOM

I think basing at BLK is to enable them to offer an early BLK-BHD and IOM-BHD option. A IOM based aircraft doing IOM-BLK-IOM-BHD... would offer a late arrival into BHD for those going to Belfast for the day

Being picky but its a Loganair base. So any BE operations with a Dash would be operationally separate

Jet2 Captain to climb Everest

Very soon the Blackpool Base Captain for Jet2, Paul James, will join an assault on Mount Everest in an attempt to raise awareness and funding for Cancer Research.

For more info and donations see his dedicated website

On another forum, dedicated to BLK, it is saying that the airport are looking for another airline to look at summer routes to go against LS.

Whether this is true or not it does cause some discussion! It has now been proved that Balfour Beatty is not shy of getting to airlines on one/two routes and do not seem to fall under pressure so maybe there is some truth in it!

Only companies I can think of are Globespan (not had particularly good dealings with smaller airports in England) and easyJet (heavy at MAN and LPL so not much chance). Maybe a charter carrier....:ok:

DISCUSS!!!:}

Good point take off: Blackpool Airport will test the patience of Jey2 one to often IMO.

If you remember they did the same courting Thompson to fly the Alicante route in the winter a couple of years ago.

I think Monarch left Blackpool because of the threat from Jet2 in 2006.

Now we have an economic downturn yet they are testing the successful Manx 2 with these not so new routes.

Had Blackpool found a successor to the Gerona route vacated by Ryanair, then that would have been impressive.

MUFC_fan 3rd February 2009 21:19

Well if LS follow through and bring in another aircraft again next summer I would expect to see increases in current frequencies such as AGP and maybe ALC going back to daily with FAO and MJV seeing increases.

Plus new destinations which we can probably bring down to places such as BCN and maybe somewhere in Italy?

STK123 3rd February 2009 21:19

ADF is also at Norwich and Newquay and also at Kerry & Knock in Ireland. It is the norm at south american airports and someone told me they had to pay it in Jamaica its just not so common here in the UK ....yet.....
