Already booked up for a mid week break in June. £49 return all in. Cheapest from EDI was EZY with around £90 for the exact same dates. Will be interesting to use DND again, only used it once when flyBE did BHD. Gives me an excuse to see how the Dundee waterfront project is coming on too. :ok:

The fare doesn't seem to rise above £54 return from what I could see, scanning several weeks into the summer. Some days as low as £17.99 each way. If they can sustain that kind of price level then it's going to be extremely popular with the local population, especially the students. They need to really push the boat out with the advertising though, plenty of people will already be used to trailing down to EDI/GLA for easyJet and KLM. This could easily become the most popular route at DND, if they do it right.

Is it confirmed being a Q400? Was hoping for a ride in the Dornier! :E

Re: KLM. I do hope so, that'd help a lot and make DND a destination on their wider network. As it stands right now, DND does not appear as a destination on their site. But the flights aren't in Amadeus yet either, so perhaps something will develop in a day or so.

Yeah, a BHX based Q400 on a W-Pattern, as per OltonPete in the BHX thread. Quite a big aircraft for Dundee!

There's a hill between Leuchars and Dundee that would restrict coverage.

I was hoping to use the Flybe flights to connect with KLM onward to Frankfurt or Stuttgart, but you can't book through flights- because there is no codeshare available to Dundee- but there is for Southampton and Inverness :ugh:
So it looks like the claim of easy linking into a major European hub may not be quite accurate (along with 6 days a week service. According to the Flybe website, that is only available Spetember into October 2016).
The cost of separate bookings is high, so it looks like EDI, ABZ or GLA for the forseeable.
It's a great shame, it would have made for an easier trip.

I spoke to a friend of mine about who used the London City flights for trips they made to London, they said that Stansted was useless for going into central London in their view, and they would not use the flights.

Can Regional Air Connectivity Fund routes be code-shared? Problem I see is that the code-share partner is not an applicant.

Answer is a bit more simple. KLM isn't able to codeshare more than 2 routes to the UK.

That seems like a strange restriction to put in place, seeing as how KL/AF/BE codeshare with many other airlines.

It's a great shame and a bit of a wasted opportunity if these routes cannot offer seamless onward connectivity. Not only that but a huge number of non European people who study in Dundee or St Andrews who could potentially have used KLM for onward airside transit to the far East, South America or Africa will now be put off by the idea of having to obtain a costly Schengen visa just for the simple act of having to go landside at AMS to recheck their baggage.

I seem to recall someone a while ago saying there's an old agreement between KLM and one of the unions limiting the number of codeshares - presumably to prevent KLM effectively outsourcing all labour to the airline which pays the least. Is this correct or is my memory playing tricks ?

Great news but just remember that whilst the passengers are getting sub #100 return fares, the Scottish taxpayer is paying another #200 plus, as Dundee loses about #4-5m every year, for some 25,000 to not have to go to Edinburgh.
And Flybe are selling seats cheaper than Easyjet from Edinburgh, and ⅔ less than KLM.
Is that what the 98% of taxpayers (who don't use the airport) want from their regional airport?
This is not building a sustainable business route, as Dundee wants: its just super-cheap leisure flights for the time-being until they all wake up and realise who's really paying: TaxpayerScotland - Scotland's independent campaign for lower taxes

Personally, as a Scottish tax payer and someone who used to live in Dundee, I don't mind the route being subsidised if it brings in people to the area who then spend money which wouldn't have been there if not for the flights in the first place. I have just returned from a visit to the city, my first for a few years, and there, sadly, appears to be no advertising of this route anywhere. The airport has a large sign advertising the STN route, but oddly, not this one which is surely more beneficial?

I flew Dundee-Amsterdam on Friday - my first flight from Dundee.

The flight was pretty much full, there were 3 empty seats up the front, full at the back. I booked about a month in advance, and paid £40, so yields might not be that high.

There were a group of 4 football fans connecting onwards to Italy to watch Scotland, and I overheard a few couples saying they were heading to Amsterdam for the long weekend, returning Monday.

The "departures" area was mobbed, there were not enough seats, and barely enough room for standing too. It seems a Dash8 is a little too much aircraft for Dundee.

I don't think they ever envisaged how popular AMS would be from DND, especially not when they built the terminal. I doubt they will expand the terminal as there won't be any demand. They may somehow rejig the current building to make some more space airside.

Having never flown from DND (only to DND once when it was linked with BHD) I am quite excited about my upcoming AMS flight in a few weeks. I booked it as soon as they went on sale and got it for £48 return, so a good deal. Is there anything airside at all? I can never find any pictures of how the departures area looks. Where is the immigration/customs area? DND has only ever had the odd charter from Spain, so having a scheduled, daily service must have made them create a new area surely?

No, there is nothing airside other than a vending machine. I made the mistake of going straight through security about half an hour before the flight.

It seems in Dundee, final call isn't to proceed to the gate, but rather to proceed through security! A lot of people stayed landside at the cafe there, and proceeded through security when called.

I returned Rotterdam to Manchester, so I've no idea on the immigration arrangement I'm afraid.
