Could be worse, but still not great. I wouldnt want my taxes funding that for evermore to save some getting up early to get to EDI

FRatSTN 25th May 2014 20:39

The frequency is 11 departures per week (2 each weekday plus 1 Sunday service) which means there were 48 departures in the whole of April, including the return leg as well doubles that to 96.

1297 / 96 = 13.5 pax per flight (obviously that's not half a passenger, just an unrounded figure).

The Dornier 328 carries 32 pax so the LF is only just over 42%. Not great but that doesn't tell us what the yields are like, plus it's still relatively early days.

Cloud1 25th May 2014 21:59

Like most regional traffic to London some days are busier than others. Some flights go out at over 90% others very few maybe single figures. Averages are great but not always the full picture

sxflyer 25th May 2014 23:22

Not that it makes much difference but the average was a shade over 14 - there were less rotations than stated by FR@STN due to the Easter holiday

NickBarnes 26th May 2014 07:23

I believe that on a D328 it needs and average of 19-21 to make it profitable on a route, but of course this is not always the rule because of yields, airport costs etc etc

Any Scope for Extending the Runway to Allow A319/737 In?
And can it currently take an E170/190 or ERJ135 type.
Or the planned Cseries.
If it could currently accept a E170/190 Then surely that ought to Broaden the scope of destinations by a lot.
Though can anyone please clarify how long the runway is?. Does it have ILS?..
Just that I have seen veto and photos of 737's landing at Vagar in the Faroes before the runway extension .
And that was only 1.299m . Though groved to Aid Braking.

davidjohnson6 26th May 2014 22:41

onyx - you mention Vagar airport being 1299 metres long - could you confirm this is the case ? The Vagar airport website reports a length of 1799 metres

Cloud1 26th May 2014 22:53

Onyx does say before the runway extension......

CaptainDoony 26th May 2014 22:56

He did say it was pre-extension. Here's a video of a 737 landing at Vagar before extension incase you're interested:

Although DND could handle E170/190 etc the catchment area is small and with considerably more options available to all London Airports and much more from EDI/ABZ, the market is just not there for any sort of expansion no matter how small. You do have to wonder how long the STN service will last and if that fails, I imagine it'll be game over for pax ops at DND.

NATS data for Dundee Airport is available via this link;

NATS | AIS - Home

It's not just runway length that matters; Navaids, PCNs, ACNs, spacing between aprons and runway and many other factors need to be taken into account too.

1752 passenger from 102 flights on the STN route, 17 per flight on average. 32% down on same month last year.

2143 passengers in June, loads appear to be picking up a bit?

I guess that is about 40 passengers in and out on average each day.

Just read on another forum that the subsidy is £2.85 million over 2 years, what happens if the losses exceed the subsidy before the 2 years are over?

bb

bad bear 19th August 2014 14:09

2412 passengers for July, down 20% on last year but 300 more than last month.

NickBarnes 19th August 2014 22:06

Believe that equals 23 pax average per flight, so not bad at all

An FR 738 off of 1400m.. Would be interesting!

Pretty certain this article is meaning Dublin and not Dundee.
