with the way that london citys pax figures are justnow, anything bigger than a d328 would be a complete waste. figures from lcy to dnd can even be worse than dnd - lcy at times. pax are getting fed up with the late or canx flights, lack of customer care in the case of delays or cancellations and value for money or the lack of it.
Well not the rumour i have heard.........D328 for BHX & RJ70 for LCY ?

shedrule 16th January 2008 08:05

Would flybe, perhaps under the new Loganair agreement and given their significant presence there, be looking at Birmingham?

As for LCY, certainly been pretty full whenever I have flown from DND but filling a D328 is one thing, filling an RJ is a whole different ball game. Any updates on this rumour NDF?

Does anyone know anything more about Logan looking at a twice daily SF3 DND-BHX and daily DND-MAN??

I believe one of the main reasons Aberdeen & not Dundee benefitted most from oil was that the former had an airport that could cope with the expansion (at the time!!) whereas the latter did not.

However Dundee does have quite a bit of oil-related activity & a growing knowledge economy so you would think it could sustain more routes.

I hope someone is looking at expansion for you guys. :ok:

Dundee and North Sea Oil

Hi,

I agree that the airport in Aberdeen was a factor in the growth of that city as an oil centre but additionally Dundee was a victim of geography.

In the early days offshore activity was fairly equidistant from the ports of Dundee, Montrose, Aberdeen and Peterhead e.g. Argyll, Auk...

BP, Conoco, Ranger, etc all used Dundee in those early days.

As major discoveries started to be found further north - and with increasing fuel costs and travelling time for support operations - onshore base operations naturally followed them north.

It then became difficult to justify shipping goods south by road to Dundee/Montrose and then sailing them north again past Aberdeen & Peterhead.

As time went on fewer and fewer support operations remained in Dundee making the use of the port even less economic for mud companies, etc.

Regards

Jim

Weren't there talks between the MOD and Fife Council at attracting more commercial flights to Leuchars at one point?

With a more accommodating runway [than Dundee] already there, less (all be it only slightly) travel time to Edinburgh and around 30min by coach and 10min by train to Dundee, wouldn't this prove more viable than having carriers operating smaller aircraft into Dundee?

Not sure what fee's are like at Leuchars, but I'm guessing there more than the £9/tonne at Dundee.

Turnips 1 - 4 DUNDEE UTD

I take back wot I said earlier....may no operators come & your airport slip into the Tay estuary..............................:{

But when you got a fat manager more interested in a suntan, & co-co the clown as your goalie, what do you expect??!!

(Pleased for Eddie Thomson, not very well I hear).

The Loggy SF340 rumour is getting a little louder down at BHX, any truth that twice a day will be happening ? I presume BE will be selling it ?

wingman863 6th February 2008 13:46

Any word on BHD starting again?

Richard Taylor 15th February 2008 16:03

More rumours in the respective threads of LOG flying to MAN & BHX from DND this summer with their Saab 340.

viscount702 15th February 2008 18:46

There are rumours that Loganair have slots for 3 daily to MAN from Summer

Slots however don't mean flights

the_fish@blueyonder. 15th February 2008 21:13

I don't think DND can take a 737, can it? Surely that means RYR can't start operations here.

Newdundeeflyer 16th February 2008 15:39

Dundee cannot take a 737 as runway only 1400 metres. Was talk of Leuchars opening up as joint military/civil as they have longer runway. Hear that has been completely quashed now......

Rumours at Dundee are that Loggie are going to start a DND-MAN route in summer, Flybe a Belfast route and another unknown operator will take on the birmingham route.........:D

the_fish@blueyonder. 16th February 2008 17:20

I mis-read Loganair for Ryanair, who know what I was thinking about, I apologise. :O

Loganair or FlyBE would be great to see in Dundee.

i know 16th February 2008 17:39

cityjet/scotairways are talking about a d328 taking the birmingham route with an rj100 on the london city route

BaggageBob 17th February 2008 08:07

Are you sure you know "I know" ?
Its just that, I know that cityjet dont have any RJ100's.

Or maybe you know something I dont Know "I Know"

Cheers

Call Established 17th February 2008 08:25

I thought Logan had applied for slots for MAN and BHX which I know they may not take up but appears more likely than the scot option ?

wingman863 17th February 2008 09:40

Any possibility of belfast?

baggagebill 17th February 2008 19:05

So what do you know about Baggage ? Baggagebob ?

When was the last time you actually handled some baggage ?

Dundee is a small City Airport used mainly by city flyers on business, hence any new routes will be based on the need of the business community. Don't see Cityjet putting a Rj on the LCY route, numbers have dropped since they took over. If anything they may go for the birmingham route with another D328. That would suit the business city flyers more.....

By all accounts - Loganair not currently interested in DND. Slots maybe. Aircraft availability and will to do so ,another thing.
