Looks like EDI-NQY might of been dropped for next year by BE.

EDI-CPH from 21 March 1--45-7
EDI-DBV from 7 May -2---6-

Surprised at the frequencies. Apart from KEF and DBV , I thought they would have all been as near to daily, particularly if they have an eye on the business market. Haven't looked to see what the duplicated routes have in terms of frequency.

Virgin awarded slots for LHR-EDI

Virgin has defeated Aer Lingus in the battle for the former BMI take-off and landing slots for LHR-EDI. Services will commence March 2013:

Good news for EDI, but i have to say that im amazed that it seems nobody will operate to NQY for 2013 as nothing is yet loaded for BE who had been doing 4 or 5 weekly for the last 5 or so years

Might be more accurate to say EDI has been defeated in a battle to maintain long-term high frequency LHR links. Once the 3 year compulsory operating period is up, its inevitable the slots will go to long-haul flights ex-LHR. And happily for the Beard, if there are no flights you can take his trains instead.
This has been discussed at length elsewhere and you are wrong on both points

1. The slots are ring fenced for

London-Aberdeen
London-Edinburgh
London-Nice
London-Cairo
London-Moscow **restricted by bilateral agreement to two UK operators who are BA and EZY**
London-Riyadh

for 3 years (7 rotations for EDI/ABZ) then must be used for European routes or designated lh routes, which are

London-Cairo
London-Moscow **no traffic rights**
London-Riyadh.

The rules are here if you are interested. So no long haul bonanza for Virgin there.

2. The alternative train is ECML which is government operated at the moment. No SRB benefit there either.

New Edinburgh Airport branding revealed

At a special launch event at Edinburgh Castle today, the new bosses of EDI unveiled the new post-BAA era branding, and made plenty of upbeat noises about future growth.

Edinburgh Airport unveils new branding - Transport - Scotsman.com

New logo looks pretty cool. Hopefully they will deliver on their pledges.

Skipness One Echo 5th December 2012 23:51

It's Infratil / Prestwick purple and has a ****ing stupid mission statement, just in case you didn't know "Edinburgh Airport" was er....an airport. Oh dear me.
"Where Scotland meets the world."

Someone got big £ for that one.

However the proof is in what they do commercially, not what the kiddies with the coloured pens do down in marketing.
Speaking of doing, is the cross runway finally being withdrawn permanently?

retrosgone 6th December 2012 13:54

The future of the cross runway is unclear, but it is not yet withdrawn permanently. In fact, it will be in use overnight for 15 nights during March when the main is to be closed for works. That means a lot of the mail/freight flights will have to use it - so hoping for decent weather on those occasions!

Well I'd be cross if that happened to me. :)

And correct me if I'm wrong, but the only thing the "cross runway" actually crosses is the old disused 08/26 ?

The second runway gets used for this purpose almost every year. Surely it's worth keeping for this purpose along - without the runway they would need to close the airport for 2 weeks to complete maintenance work.

BA9277? Is that flight number correct? That doesn't follow the usual "14xx" of EDI-LHR flights, nor does the BA website have any mention of such a flight number.

Skipness One Echo 11th December 2012 21:20

It was a positioning flight. Only the crew on board.

That explains that one then! Thank you.

Sounds like it may already have been a sick aircraft returning to LHR for rectification, as BA have been using Titan 767 G-POWD on EDI for the last couple of days.

OntimeexceptACARS 12th December 2012 08:06

I understand BA9277 was G-BNWZ positioning to LHR following an engine change, after going a wee bit tech after landing at the end of last week.

Now back in service (on EDI again), having finally arrived at LHR around 0100 this morning.
