Might also be the fact that Ryanair use Weeze, plus flights to Cologne (Germanwings) and other flights to Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt (and Hamburg I think EasyJet)

Looks more like he is trying to stir up trouble - the letter does not make any allegations, instead it alludes to secret agreements in smoke filled rooms. If he is the true champion of open competition, why not put his money where his mouth is?

Wonder if the recent EZY route announcements and MSP "arrangement" at EDI needs further transparency if there are concerns about smoke filled rooms ? Those that throw stones and all that...

But where would public money have come from? Scottish Govt? Scottish Enterprise? An SG contract with AviaSolutions to promote particular routes to airlines? The Route Development Fund ceased in 2007 so there's no formal mechanism for doing this.
In any case, what possible benefit would any public authority (leaving aside local councils) see in switching the route from EDI to GLA? NS |
Gordon Dewar, and Joe for that matter - its a commercial decision. Deal with it. Lufthansa are aiming to do one thing: return to profit. Have G and J asked themselves why Lufty would operate DUS-EDI and CGN-EDI, both as Germanwings/Lufty codeshares after next summer when, as the airline have stated, the majority of pax come from the West?
I understand EDI has NRN, SXF, MUC, and FRA. GLA will be served by DUS and SXF. Doesn't seem a bad decision, Lufty trying to capture as much of the market as possible from more than one destination. Its not Dewar's decision to make, nor is it BAA/LHR Ltd, or the council, or anyone else. Gordon is making an a*** of himself to suggest otherwise. |

NS Herald Scotland Mr Dewar highlighted the role played by Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, which is funded by Glasgow City Council, to lure the airline and claimed Visit-Scotland was also involved. The Glasgow bureau has confirmed it provided up to £40,000 in marketing support, which it said would help increase passenger volumes. I suspect that this would not be the deciding factor on the move but we will have to wait and see on the success of the route. Ex |
Either GLA have done something illegal - in which case, see you in court, or they haven't - in which case just admit they've done a better job than you and learn for next time.

What were Mr Dewar and certain posters on this forum expecting? That BAA gives up the ghost and shuts Glasgow and everyone decants to Edinburgh? They wanted competition, and it looks like they are getting it, admittedly not in the way, I suspect, they were hoping.
However I fail to see the logic in getting angry about GLASGOW Marketing Bureau, which is funded by GLASGOW City Council which in turn is funded by residents of GLASGOW through council tax spending money on something that will benefit GLASGOW. It, to me, just reeks of sour grapes. |
Can anyone at EDI confirm that Etihad are to launch a 2 weekly service from July 2013 once the A330 comes off some DUB flights. EY expected to confirm it shortly.

Not you thats for sure. Leave it to the professionals to sort out, if indeed anything needs sorting. Im guessing we'll conveniently (for everyone) hear no more about it.

Air Canada launch EDI-YYZ with new loco
Beautiful colour scheme and a kick in the balls to GLA.
EDI-YYZ is a trickier animal than GLA though. Worldways and Transat never got beyond a single weekly summer rotation and that got canned recently. Good result! Btw that livery looks better than mainline's. Just saying! |
