the schedules / connections been more attractive
Some ATL same day onward connections via Northern/Mid West USA hubs were impossible and required overnight hotel stays.

I doubt no tax payer money was involved after this experience.
I'm sure AC wouldn't turn down a subsidy just because they'd been gazumped by someone who'd been offered one before.
I don't know (or care if the truth is known) if there's a subsidy or not. I'd just checked out the prices from EDI return & YYZ return and the base price is almost 3 x more if you fly from EDI (£222 vs £635) Couple that with the press release bumf with lots of mention of bringing Canadians to Scotland, business & leisure. Perhaps I got 3 from adding these together, and the correct reason is simply the pricing strategy of ACR.
Either way I am pleased there will be a second trans atlantic route from EDI even if it doesn't work for me financially.

RDF is dead. Thats not to say an airport or a handling agent hasn't dropped their keks for any new business. Joe's claim of "multi million" agreements is absurd, for Zoom or anyone else, RDF or not. Such claims require evidence, please.

EDI might well have cut a deal to bring ACR (already heard them called Air Canada Rogue!!!!) to the local, but as I keep saying, its the airlines/the market who decide where to operate, not the airport operators.

Having said all that, theres nothing to say ACR prices won't drop, or TSC prices won't increase - a snapshot today is no evidence of overall strategy. ACR might have a January Sale! Book Lufty to DUS today ex GLA for £98 return. Look again after Christmas and it will be at least £150. KLM are similar from the UK, there are regular offers from time to time.

Any doubters might care to use the Freedom of Information Act.?

willy wombat 21st December 2012 10:46

This is a cracking little spat - its quite making my Christmas. For what its worth, sadly I give both AC at EDI and LH at GLA a year maximum.

I'm not a doubter - having knowledge of someone who sat around that particular table - feel free. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Looks like Turkish are upping their EDI presence:?

5 times weekly from 31 March 2013

Then daily from 21 May 2013

Winter 2013 similar to 2012

CabinCrewe 21st December 2012 22:11

Do we know how this route is doing ? Would be interesting to know if they're capturing the transfer market or the inbound numbers.
Any sign of an equipment upgrade ?

OntimeexceptACARS 21st December 2012 22:46

CC I think THY operate similarly to KLM, its booked load dependent - primarily A319/B738 with B739 used where required.

MUFC_fan 3rd January 2013 23:14

Looking at the Flybe timetable for S13, on certain days (mainly Sat & Sun) they have 5 based departures on the Dash within an hour or two of each other. 5th Dash due in?

With that, also looks like they'll be operating the Brussels services too. It's in the Amadeus system anyway.

Maybe 6 Dashes sat on the apron at night!

OntimeexceptACARS 6th January 2013 00:30

Plenty of choice then for the first departure that's tech :}

goldeneye 6th January 2013 17:56

The SN flights are showing op by BE DHC-8 online too.

New EDI route fund..

BBC News - Edinburgh Airport establishes £15m new route fund

willy wombat 25th January 2013 09:00

Before getting too excited about this you should look at recent history at Gatwick (same owners). They have proved quite successful at attracting new operators but less successful in keeping them.

billyg 25th January 2013 09:06

Despite the EDI hierarchy assuring us that losing the DUS service to GLA was a mere drop in the ocean , they seem to be getting themselves in a lather about both losing the route and the fact that Glasgow already has a form of RDF !

Joe Curry 25th January 2013 10:02

getting themselves in a lather
You seem to doing likewise BillyG? :D

CabinCrewe 25th January 2013 10:09

Here we go again.... Anyway, back to EDI.
Yes GIP have not done that well particularly with their long haul routes. How many is that they've lost. Wonder what incentives were given at LGW to get them, and then the operators discovered it wasn't as worth their while. I can't really see a rush of long haul operators trying EDI to be honest.
