This is a great point, pre-clearace is dealing with a pain point that doesn't affect the majority of the passengers on US flights as CBP process is much faster for US passport holders. Is there an outside possibility there's a quid pro quo that one from BA/VS/EUK have promised a based aircraft if this happens and so he's really going for it?

I’m excited to see how this develops. They have said that advances in technology makes this more affordable and they certainly believe that it could help them secure more US routes.
There are plans to completely reorganise the terminal with domestic flights moving to the cul-de-sac and they’ve said that pre clearance would be an earmarked processing area airside. I am looking forward to seeing the plans in more detail. |
Preclearance would be a pretty big deal and I could definitely see an uptick of passengers using Edinburgh to travel across the pond. With the A321XLR coming pretty soon with orders by United and AA, I'd like to think that more year round services would be viable.
It's worth noting that in the depths of winter, Shannon only serves one transatlantic passenger service which CBP remains open for. Appreciate that wasn't the case when it opened and it's been established for a lot longer they still seem to make a case for it. I keep banging on though that the check in area needs to be vastly expanded though! |

From my experience last year US citizens faced significant queues at immigration (for example at JFK) IMO IF it were to happen it would be really positive for EDI- I just don’t understand the negativity in this forum towards this. The worst it can do is drive further overdue investment in the existing bursting infrastructure. |

How such a facility is funded is key to whether this project goes ahead. My understanding is that the Irish stations had a certain funding agreement that has not necessarily been made available to UK stations who have looked into this.
And don't just assume that airlines want to use the facility, just because it's there. There may be costs and other operational impacts that they might not wish to accept. |

Flights until the start of March have appeared (worth noting that easyJet normally make changes between April-June so this will change)
Biggest changes I can see is Hurghada going from 2 to 1 weekly and Hamburg being removed. It remains unclear what the plan for Venice is, easyJet Holidays shows the route as taking a break between December and March 1st |

Nice to see long haul flights increasing for the summer again. The VS A350 is back on Wednesday I think. Booked with them for later this year.
