Looks like a number of flights were held this morning over the borders.

EZY6473 diverted to Prestwick
KL923 diverted to Newcastle

PIKAviationTours 4th Apr 2024 11:04

Supposedly a backlog caused by runway repairs but this has not been confirmed as yet.

Well travelling through EDI will be fine this Summer if this Swissport strike goes ahead! At the same time, if the allegations of bullying are true, then it is absolutely disgusting behaviour from the Swissport managers.

Edinburgh airport faces summer of chaos as staff threaten strikes over bullying claims

Staff at Edinburgh airport have made allegations that bullying is "rife" amongst Swissport bosses who have been accused of "intimidating" and "bullying" workers.

Passengers flying to and from Edinburgh airport could be in for a chaotic summer as workers threaten to walk out following allegations of “horrendous” bullying.

Staff at Scotland's busiest airport have alleged that Swissport bosses have been intimidating workers with the problem branded "rife" at the capital airport.

A recent study revealed that Edinburgh airport is the worst in Scotland for flight delays, the Daily Record reports.

GMB union officials will ballot today for strike action after “persistent” complaints by workers. One, Samantha Brownlie, was suspended in February after supporting five workers’ complaints.

The union rep, 30, who has worked at the airport for two years, fears she will be laid off.

She claimed: “The bullying is horrendous and it’s made my life hell. I’ve been shouted at and belittled in front of passengers and team members. I’ve broken down in tears over it. I was once told, “You’re f***ing useless, just do your job.”

The company came under fire last summer amid scores of complaints about lost or delayed luggage.

A similar article surfaced a few months ago aswell, things presumably haven’t improved.

Edinburgh Airport installs first of new 3D scanners that will mean passengers can leave liquids, laptops and tablets in hand luggage

The first of a series of new security scanners which will mean passengers no longer need to remove liquids, gels and electronic devices from their hand luggage has been installed at Edinburgh Airport.

Airport chiefs confirmed the first new scanner went into operation at the terminal on Tuesday morning.

The airport has ordered eight of the high-tech 3D X-ray scanners, which will also mean passengers are allowed to carry up to two litres of liquid onto a plane. The new scanners also end the need for laptops and tablets to be removed from hand luggage.

However, airport bosses have stressed there will be no changes to the liquid rules at Edinburgh for now.

The Scotsman has previously reported Edinburgh Airport – Scotland’s busiest – is among a host of large UK airports that have been granted a year’s extension from the original June 1 deadline to fully install the new scanning technology.

However, the airport has said it is confident the “vast majority” of its passengers will be using the new machines by the summer peak.

The PR team at EDI have been busy. They have confirmed that the new scanners will not be used in S24. A go live date will be announced in due course. This means the line for security will be along the corridor and down the stairs at peak times in S24.

The one that’s been installed so far was in use this morning, so it’s an odd statement to say that they will not be used in S24. That’s already not true.

To be clear. It won’t be used in relation to all items remaining inside luggage etc and increased liquid allowances. The current allowances remain in place along with the requirement to remove certain clothing and electrical equipment.

would I be wrong not to be surprised at AC winter being ditched? Enough Star options to carry that through. Unless once a week, the aircraft was far too big, and mid winter Canada never does that well. Wonder if mid winter winter winds all too much for the originally planned little 737 max to be reconsidered. Not sure Id fancy that product.
The Winter Transat A321 seems about a right fit, twice/wk

I'm slightly surprised. I would've thought AC had decent connections as well as demand just to Toronto. Maybe slightly too large for the 787 though. AC have A321XLRs on order though don't they? I wonder if that will make them reconsider it.

Decent connections to....Canada, in February? ❄️ It was never a busy year round route, always summer focussed, and nothing wrong with seasonality.

Planeraz 27th Apr 2024 21:09

AC

If not enough pax are actually paying for the comfy seats up front, they will look to other routes in winter to keep the cash coming in. Air Canada appears to be directing lots of resource to the year round sun options, namely FL in the US, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands.

GayFriendly 28th Apr 2024 01:18

I have friends who live in Toronto, Florida and Mexico in winter are to them like the Canaries are to Brits in winter. Very unsurprising therefore that AC focus their fleet in that direction for the 'snowbirds' . Seasonal AC is still a very good place to be for EDI

Asturias56 28th Apr 2024 07:41

A much higher proportion of the Canadain population heads south in winter (and for a lot longer) cp the UK - parts of Arizona and Florida are full of snowbirds (plus folks from New York)

Sk1schoolsam 28th Apr 2024 08:57

[QUOTE=The Winter Transat A321 seems about a right fit, twice/wk[/QUOTE]

So Air Transat can make a year round work at GLA but AC can’t at EDI?
Appreciate the 788/9 might be too big for even 3 weekly and best utilised else where but surely the 737 Max8 would cope?
Would be surprised if there is not some two way traffic to be had, AC obviously did recognise this over the festive season at least or did.
Back to GLA then connections through LHR…..

Skipness One Foxtrot 28th Apr 2024 14:44

It's not about "just about working" or "coping" it's about deriving maximim revenue from the asset, and the snowbird vacations are way more lucrative than a token winter presence linking cold Scotland to frozen Canada. It might work but that likely means Air Transat taking a seasonal break instead of Air Canada.
It's not a GLA vs. EDI issue, it's a function of the very seasonal Scottish market.

PAXboy 28th Apr 2024 16:56

A couple of weeks ago, I had to day trip LHR-EDI. I'd not been through there since 2001. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LOVELY LITTLE AIRPORT??? Wow but they have crammed in more shops/coffee/bars/eating than LHR!!!!

Still convenient and great that the tram is there now but, I was taken aback!
