Vueling

Vueling to start scheduled flights between CWL and Paris Orly as of 02/11/2021 on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

It has been reported that Vueling have secured slots at ORY resulting in CWL along with BFS, BHX, EDI, GLA & NCL all appearing to have been added after they gained Air France slots at ORY.

PDXCWL45 30th Sep 2021 20:27

Good news to see Paris back on the departure boards!

Letsflycwl 30th Sep 2021 20:46

Yeah I agree, let’s hope it gets used and an additional flight be added if that’s the case !! 2 a week is better than nothing……

Same goes for FR and the DUB sector, be great if this got to go daily like it used too with FR.

Just need the JER sector to be filled for next summer.

Letsflycwl 13th Oct 2021 09:06

Wizz have reinstated the winter seasonal CWL-SSH sector and are due to start 01/11/2022 now instead of this year.

With all the Wizz expansion lately (notably DSA within the U.K.) I wonder if there be more in the pipeline next year for CWL?

bycrewlgw 13th Oct 2021 16:58

think it’s going to be more of a case of let’s see if they start before we think about expansion. Don’t mean to be all doom and gloom but they’ve not operated a commercial flight from the base yet so let’s see.

Letsflycwl 13th Oct 2021 17:04

Thats you not because they took the decision to postpone everything until March 2022 due to the pandemic and there is no reason why they are not going ahead with the CWL base.

bycrewlgw 13th Oct 2021 19:15

Not CWL bashing as I want it to succeed too but you have to be realistic. There are many reasons in business why ventures don’t progress. Airlines don’t exist to start routes to please us enthusiasts, they’re there to make money.

look at the QR flights. They’re postponed but do you realistically see them returning?

W6 will have weighed up the economics of CWL and had the demand been there, flights would now be running. They’re not. So they’re postponed until next year which suggests that demand is not yet there. Why would they expand if demand is not yet there for some of the most popular destinations?

Letsflycwl 13th Oct 2021 19:34

I get your point but Wizz took the decision to postpone to March 2022 due to the uncertainty on restrictions / red list / requirements which if we go back to the summer when they announced this were all over the place with all airlines cancelling or extending their restrictions. I think it was a wise move to simply postpone to when everything is calmer which should hopefully by March.

It is not only CWL for Wizz but also DSA & LGW were all affected so guess time will tell.

the destinations offered by Wizz are safe and sensible (maybe not SSH unless people want the guaranteed sun) but now with a date confirmed and hopefully with a big marketing push by both Wizz and CWL bookings should gradually increase…..all being well.

CabinCrewe 13th Oct 2021 20:42

I do realistically expect QR to return at some point…

Letsflycwl 13th Oct 2021 21:08

Yeah I agree…..the loads were steadily picking up prior to Covid so hope they do too. Then again many people said it would never last but it did and it would still be operating in a non-Covid world.

Lets hope they do return at some point in the future and I’m sure CWL management will work their best at this.

PDXCWL45 13th Oct 2021 22:14

The demand isn't there because of the pandemic and travel restrictions hence why they made the wise decision imo to postpone until March 2022. As for expansion we don't know what they have planned but their CEO is quoted as saying it's not likely that they'll stay at 1 aircraft because 1 aircraft bases aren't economical.
As for Qatar Airways we can just hope they do come back but realistically we can't really expect any return to be in 2022.

Not sure if any of you will remember the Airports UK Timetables book that used to come out each year but I really liked it. I've kind of made one for CWL for next year. Its not 100% complete (flight numbers and some A/C types missing) but I've attached it below if anyone is interested. If you have the missing info, I can send the excel copy for you to update. Obviously all subject to change. Interesting that the winter only ACE flight with W6 will operate until 10/06.

Letsflycwl 14th Oct 2021 20:42

That’s great seeing it all like on paper mate, interesting to see AYT as TBA, guess this maybe Freebird again.

I’d have thought Wizz would do ACE year round too, obvs something is scheduled to take it place…maybe another TBA destination or an additional flight to somewhere they already lab to serve just for the peak season.

You’ve missed off the new Vueling ORY flights.

Really good spreadsheet though so happy to let you know if I hear or find out anything else for it.

bycrewlgw 14th Oct 2021 20:55

yeah the ORY flights aren’t bookable it seems for June next year. Just did a random search. Will get the added when released.

Seeing it on paper makes you realise the hole that BE have left in the departures. We’re averaging 11 departures and 11 arrivals a day next summer so far.

Letsflycwl 14th Oct 2021 21:08

Deffo pretty sad really, BE certainly filled the departure board big time. But as someone said earlier Wizz have always commented they don’t like a one aircraft base so maybe CWL are working on that…..hopefully.

Wish we still had Air Wales now as most of these old BE destinations would be well suited to them !!

PDXCWL45 14th Oct 2021 21:29

I believe Heraklion or Corfu fills the gap between June and October.

caaardiff 14th Oct 2021 21:31

Heraklion replaces ACE in June for the summer.
Corfu also starts mid June but up until then there's just a gap in the schedule on Tuesdays and Saturdays mornings. You'd think Wizz would fill the gap with extra Malaga or Faro or somewhere similar.

CWL mentioned by Wizz again and that the U.K. is their biggest market and hope to expand….

Also confirmed they will be starting CWL as planned in April.

KLM

With KLM using the E190 for the single flight a day. Does anybody know what the numbers have been like? Do we think they might be looking to reintroduce the morning flight even if just with the E175s? It’s always been a really useful hub airline for Cardiff and the missing morning flight means you miss those transatlantic connections in Amsterdam that allowed travellers the option to avoid trekking to Heathrow.

With all the restrictions I can't see it going beyond daily until the beginning of the summer at the least.

Some booking platforms showing Qatar back from the end of March 5 a week - just not their own website at the moment. Could be a glitch I suppose

That would be very surprising! A welcome surprise though!

RedDragonFlyer 6th Jan 2022 23:57

Qatar still has a Cardiff page on their website. However, if you try to book it, it offers the train via Paddington.
I believe it, like Birmingham, were suspended rather than cancelled outright.

Being realistic, if the route is going to return, it will not be until the major markets east of Doha (mainly the subcontinent, Thailand and Australia/NZ) are fully open.

I wish him all the best luck in the world, he will need it, when the owners of the Airport are hell bent on reducing the impact of climate change and see Aviation as a major polluter. It is not a good combination looking short or long term.

jmdavies86 11th Jan 2022 21:41

According to Business Traveller, Eastern are stopping CWL-BHD flights.

Aero Mad 12th Jan 2022 15:39

A quote from the above article...

Some of you will know the Humberside-based airline runs a tight ship

Alteagod 12th Jan 2022 17:02

I believe that is indeed the case but only for a couple of months

Letsflycwl 13th Jan 2022 21:26

I wonder if the new Aer Lingus Regional (Emerald) would pick this up….announced a new BHD base today along with some other U.K. destinations and plans for further destinations to be added. Bit like Stobart Air had planned……who knows but hopefully CWL will be somewhere on that new list.

Letsflycwl 14th Jan 2022 19:14

Ryanair (Lauda Air) showing CWL-VIE on 24/25 March on the FR webpage, obviously for the Wales v Austria Football as just one off’s.

Come on FR give us a new destination on a permanent basis !!

Vueling ORY increase for S22

Vueling have increased CWL-ORY to 3 per week from Summer 2022….only U.K. airport to get an increase with their Paris flights.

PDXCWL45 20th Jan 2022 09:50

A look at what Vueling will be offering peak Summer 2022 from the first week of August
Alicante 6 weekly no flight on Fridays
Malaga 4 weekly Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday
Majorca 3 weekly Monday, Wednesday and Thursday
Paris 3 weekly Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday
In total 16 weekly departures, 4 routes and in total 6156 seats

bad bear 2nd Feb 2022 07:34

I think the Cardiff airport departures page is not working properly. https://www.cardiff-airport.com/live...on/departures/ seems to suggest there are between 3 and 6 flights per day and many of them are to Dublin, is there an error in the information feed ?
