Just looking at the floodlights in the WIP area again supplied by LTNman , will the 4 new stands be 1+2+1 or will they have to be moved?

LTNman 18th Oct 2022 13:52

They have always struck me as being in the wrong place. Note the shadows

I think they do fit and why 104 is slightly off.

With the extra 77-79 stands that is going to be a better overnight capacity. Signature will be happy getting 16-18 back permanently.

Clearly expanding capacity by the back door without scrutiny. I can’t think why the locals see a conflict of interest.

Lighting columns are placed by the edge of aprons and not in the middle of an apron between parked aircraft. The angle of 104 seems to have more to do with squeezing a quart into a pint pot.

The way I see it the nose of an aircraft parked on 104 if it was aligned with the others would make the need for the service road to go more northwards and into the current floodlight.

Adding overnight parking stands does not directly increase capacity limits but helps the endless movement of parked aircraft unnecessarily to other areas. How many times do EZY or Signature have to dump parked aircraft up the run up bay only to drag them back early in the morning.
Also we regularly see Globals or Gulfstreams deliver their customers then depart to Stansted, Oxford or Southend to park up only to return days later. Talk about wasteful legs and unnecessary carbon footprint!
I would also get the new 6 pack (N1-N6) started just to park up planes which are known to be stopping a while, whether waiting to enter TUI or Easyjet hangers or to reduce congestion in the 62/71 & 54/16 areas.

For those with stamina here is a near 5 hour live stream from yesterday

With the earlier problems st STN tonight I think Luton took 4 diversions. 3x RYR, 1x EZY.
The EZY appeared to end up on a Cargo stand, don't know if the pax were kept on board for a position back to STN.

Luton or Gatwick? https://travelweekly.co.uk/news/air/...-east-and-asia

I wouldn’t expect anything too long haul, suspect this sounds more exotic than it is. In reality for Saudi Arabia it would probably be the new Neom which isn’t particularly any further than Sharm el Sheikh. The existing announcement of Amman falls in this bracket. I doubt very much they’ll be heading to India or anywhere that requires crew stopping over.

Or when there is bad weather? I've had two occasions myself where we've been in a hold for far longer because every stand is full after a storm. Which I'm sure is far more environmentally damaging.

With just 10 years left on the concession would LLAOL, or is it really LRT, spend a few million pounds without a planned return on their expenditure?

Where is the new 6 pack located?

LTNman 21st Oct 2022 16:33

Behind the engine run up bay.

If you look at the last pichure LTN man posted on #1997, if you look left of the 2x Easy in the run-up bay then 3+3 Stands are proposed in that area.

crunchynutter 21st Oct 2022 18:40

Ah ok, so will they impact on the long term car park?

LTNman 21st Oct 2022 19:07

No they won’t.

Buster the Bear 21st Oct 2022 19:34

15 millionth passenger. https://simpleflying.com/wizz-air-uk...ton-passenger/

I'm not certain the planning permission for the 6-pack behind the run-up bay is still valid. In the application that is on the council website for the current plans it reads to me that these replace the previously approved 6-pack. It reads "To facilitate the development of the new General Aviation layout, the location of the new permitted stands [the 6-pack] was changed and attached drawing details our requirement for 46 no Code C commercial stands"
