The stands didn’t get nor did they apply for planning permission, as it was deemed to be not required. Very handy when the owner is the planning authority. Even if it was required it would have been nodded through as once again the owner is the planning authority.

I'm not certain the planning permission for the 6-pack behind the run-up bay is still valid. In the application that is on the council website for the current plans it reads to me that these replace the previously approved 6-pack. It reads "To facilitate the development of the new General Aviation layout, the location of the new permitted stands [the 6-pack] was changed and attached drawing details our requirement for 46 no Code C commercial stands"

Wizzair UK Long Haul

While the A321XLRs are likely to have a presence across Wizz’ UK bases, they would be flying eastbound. Dissecting the possible route opportunities, |

“A presence across Wizz’ UK bases” - Haven’t they closed all but two of them?? 🫤🙃

So if we assume that Wizz are interested in using their A321XLRs from Luton, what sort of range would they have off the relatively short runway, assuming that a full load is economically vital? What would be in range - Abu Dhabi, Saudi, Dubai or further?
|
It is a good point, how the A321XLR compares to say the old Silverjet 767s when you have a density populated configuration vs I think it was just 96 premium customers.
I'm sure the wings on the A321 are more efficient & brakes for an aborted takeoff would be better but with better fuel burn would it require as much fuel as a 767 did? I remember that Silverjet were to get x2 767ERs from TUI and were talking about Joberg, LA, Delhi & Shanghai before things went TU! |

So no one knows so let’s have a guess.

As I more or less said before, I think people are over-excited. The possible range and what Wizz would do with them are two separate things. I don’t believe they’ll stray from existing range because overnighting crews etc is a completely different business model. Places like Baku however would perhaps be just about do-able. Dubai would not.
|
AP1 - I agree with you on the range thing in regards to the business model. However, given the huge demand there is for travel between the UK and the UAE, combined with Wizz's base in Abu Dhabi, I'm wondering whether Wizz might make an exception to their business model and fly LTN-AUH non-stop, albeit at a higher price than if crew did not need hotel rooms.

More likely to fly those routes from Gatwick, if at all.

Let's remember when we only had W6, large parts of the Ibis were block booked for crews doing the early outbound. It's only recently that W9 have taken these all over and now locally based crews so they are no strangers to doing crew overnights. I suspect crews would like doing longer sectors rather than their usual trunk routes.
As far as LGW getting these routes, Wizz have a history of trying LTN first, most recently the new Jordan route. |
Or a case that Wizz found out that they didn’t work from LTN?

I have been playing around with the East Midland Trains booking engine. A non stop train from Luton Airport Parkway to St Pancras can be purchased for as little as £2.60 each way, or £5.20 return, which is a revelation.
