Didn't easyJet operate the route from Gatwick in 2019?

davidjohnson6 12th Oct 2022 21:05

Easyjet flew Gatwick - Amman from 27 March 2011 to 04 May 2014

Wizzair website booking engine states "This route is pending regulatory approval"

Still think more to come to Egypt.

I think Jordan and the UK have an open skies agreement. At least we did when in the EU and most of those agreements rolled over. So there is no limit on such things.

Jordan is pushing tourism quite hard now and has a growing middle class so this will probably work ok.

Whenever there is a pay dispute at the airport, which is often, we never get any support from Labour councillors in Luton despite their trade union backgrounds. Maybe as they represent the owners they become capitalists.

pabely 13th Oct 2022 16:23

Sorry, don't see the connection between the employer - GH Handling, and the airport & Council. This is an employee / employer issue??

LTNman 13th Oct 2022 17:04

Paying the staff too much would undermine the airports future, which is why, as the largest employer, the town needs to be kept poor to supply cheap labour.

When the owner is a local council, I really don’t follow your logic.

pabely 13th Oct 2022 18:34

I thought we were reacting to post #1985 which is to do with an outstanding £500 payment rather than having a general political discussion about the whole of the airline industry and the customer wanting to pay £9.99 to fly everywhere and the knock on affect that has?

It’s called the bigger issue. The owner with its trade union roots never supports the workers working at its airport.

What trade union roots? A council which was voted in by only 29% of the electoral voters and which cannot manage it's own internal affairs now has to get involved in a local dispute with a private employer!
If I worked for Poundland and that shop happened to be owned by the council would I expect them to step in?
If you are directly employed by council fair enough but this dispute is nothing to do with that.
If you don't like your councillor's vote them out at next local elections but they are not going to get involved.

.

What are you talking about. Why then did the owner of the airport step in and got get involved with bringing back Luton’s taxi drivers to the airport?. Would it be that many of the councillors are also taxi drivers?

The owner and the operator of London Luton Airport has announced the return of a new, improved and greener local hackney carriage service at the terminal.

The move has come about as part of the joint new partnership agreement signed by the parties

Of the new arrangements, Councillor Javeria Hussain, chair of Luton Rising, the Luton Council company that owns the airport, said: “This is a hugely welcome step to support local employment as our company focuses on demonstrating with everything that we do how we are much more than an airport, and continuing to provide maximum economic and social benefit into the local area.
So they do get involved when it suits them. Even the chair of Luton Rising is a paid up member of Unite as are many councillors but they offer no moral support to airport workers. It would be great if they showed a little solidarity as trade unionists to lift living standards at their airport.

It only did after the 2016 5 year agreement with Addison Lee expired.
To work on an airport taxi rank you need an additional license issued by local authority on private land.
Does the employer GH Handling have any such agreement for its employees with airpor?
If Wizzair say enough is enough and terminate their contract where does that leave the employees? This is no different from any other airport.
Note as this article says, employees are not employed by LLA https://airlinergs.com/wizz-air-luto...strike-action/

Construction update

Due to the angle of the sun, taking photos was a nightmare. Started in June, the Dart forecourt at Parkway is making slow progress. It was meant to be a 12 week project.

Maybe one third complete

The road layout at the station has yet to be started apart from drainage.

With Taxiway Delta closed it is being used for biz jet parking.

Thanks for the update LTN man Need to get a move on with the Delta access to new stands as NOTAM expires on 31st October.

LTNman 15th Oct 2022 10:41

Looks like a strip of new concrete by the temporary fence by Delta will be poured first, as the foundations there are almost complete.

pabely 15th Oct 2022 12:36

Is the big cement making machine still onsite between Long Term Car Park and the run up bay?
