Interestingly, Newcastle - Southend was a planned and advertised new route for Flybe before if folded. Loganair, although it took up other Flybe routes.....it didn't take up Southend.

The Belfast City route was extremely popular. Maybe LM could extend the IOM route to CAX

Mr Davies said: “We think that there is an opportunity to offer services to and from Carlisle, not only for the people of Carlisle and Cumbria to fly from their local regional airport, but also help bring tourists, visitors and businesses to Carlisle itself. We’re just at the stage of gaining the market data that we need to be able to come to an opinion on where people want to fly to. The premise of the concept is that we would be looking to fly from Carlisle to key destinations in the UK and Ireland to offer connections to the region.”
Companies House says CEO is Jonathan Mark Davies born July 1968 - the company address is a private house in Godalming, Surrey.

If you haven’t yet submitted a response, you can still access the survey by clicking here, however you’ll need to be quick as entries will close this coming Wednesday (31st March)

Have Stobart shown any interest in re-opening the airfield? Notam'd closed until 28 April.

If ever there was a time I would say nows the time to play on the staycation market even if just for Summer 21. I take all the GSE is still on station and really a case of prepping the airport....or is it?

richardhall99 29th Mar 2021 14:07

Sure the data says its not worth it, but a Newcastle to Belfast City via Carlisle and Newcastle to IOM via Carlisle could work

Flightrider 29th Mar 2021 15:08

Those sound like the types of route that would have been flown by a Dragon Rapide about 70 years ago. I'm not sure that Newcastle-Carlisle-anything is sensible or rational in today's world.

Historically, Dan Air used to operate a series of "BUS STOP" routes with a prop 748 which operated South-North from Bournemouth northwards with several drop-off and pick-up stops en-route

Flightrider 29th Mar 2021 16:33

Yes, and Metropolitan took them over with the Shorts 330 before going bust in the mid 1980s. There are lots of reasons why stuff like this doesn't really work any more including no more 10-minute check-ins at airports, no more 10-minute aircraft transit stops with the RH prop still running on the turnround, APD and much more besides.

Still think there is a summer season market for CAX from around UK. BHD was on the cusp of actually working out by all accounts.

SWBKCB 29th Mar 2021 17:49

Operated by whom? Doubt whether anything at CAX will happen until the furlough scheme ends.

“Working out” as in respectable loads last time around with Logan that could have been sustainable, or “working out” as in it was on the verge of being announced as a new route by someone?

Are we expecting BAe Jetstream 41? BHD-CAX
as Loganair fell out with stobart?

Alteagod 30th Mar 2021 06:45
