Apparently Ms Willard is a "trained actress"! Tells you all you need to know.

highwideandugly 18th Oct 2020 16:41

Phew! I’m sure she’s a really nice person?

These honours lists are definitely a pointer to greatness...J.Saville et al,anyone?

Give her credit though.,she managed to have a say in obtaining millions out of Cumbrian tax payers(and government) to develop an airport ( not withstanding COVID) out of money which could have been better spent on social care, the needy, genuine transport infrastructure and the general well-being of the area.?

SWBKCB 18th Oct 2020 16:57

Only in theory, the money came from a budget which had been allocated for economic development. And it was central govt. money

Flying Hi 18th Oct 2020 21:36

Available warehousing even sooner than 'planned'? Oh, cynical me.

highwideandugly 30th Oct 2020 16:24

Not a great surprise but airport notams show closed until end of November.

highwideandugly 22nd Nov 2020 16:24

Latest notam states airport closed until end of January 2021.

Will it ever return from this dreadful period?

davidjohnson6 22nd Nov 2020 16:55

Perhaps see what happens after the end of March 2021 ?

DomyDom 22nd Nov 2020 21:56

Quite right. With a vaccine rolled out in the Spring the economy will start to turn around and their will be huge pent up demand for travel.

LTNman 23rd Nov 2020 06:54

Maybe so but not to and from Carlisle as it was not doing great even before Covid struck.

SWBKCB 23rd Nov 2020 07:01

The NOTAM relates to the airfield being open, its not related to airline services re-starting.

LTNman 31st Jan 2021 20:38

Money for nothing?

Conservative Penrith and the Border MP Dr Neil Hudson said: “I am thrilled that Carlisle Airport has the potential to receive up to £8 million to help it protect jobs during these challenging times.

“I hope that this funding application marks a turning point for the airport – which is so important for our community and wider region.

SWBKCB 31st Jan 2021 21:03

This is just a fresh round of stories relating to the fact that English airports can now apply for the scheme that was announced last year. CAX will get nowhere near £8m - from memory it covers a years business rates.

highwideandugly 2nd Feb 2021 08:34

Airport notams show closed until 28th April.

Recovery if ever..I would suspect be very difficult?

southside bobby 3rd Mar 2021 17:42

Carlisle Airport has not made the cut with the selection of Freeports announced by the Chancellor today.
Possibly perhaps had been the hoped ace in the hole for Esken?

SWBKCB 3rd Mar 2021 17:50

Obviously “The Heart of the UK Freeport Cumbria” bid along with Barrow Port and the Port of Workington wasn't strong enough to make the cut - wonder why?

Flying Hi 3rd Mar 2021 18:03

Locations too spread out I should imagine. Neither BWF or CAX suitable for any kind of air treight.
And just try the drive from Workington to CAX if you have some spare hours.
Nice idea though.

Jamesair1 3rd Mar 2021 18:51

Port of Tyne and Newcastle Airport missed out as well.

nighthawk117 5th Mar 2021 12:22

I'm surprised they didnt make the cut. Not surprised about CAX though... it was always a bit speculative that one.

In other news - a new startup airline is proposing to launch flights from Carlisle - https://www.lakelandairways.com/

N707ZS 5th Mar 2021 12:24

They have to many Labour MPs. Teesside has turned mainly blue and got the rewards.
