.....sounds great, but one wonders where the aircraft will come from? And how soon this can all be brought together?

Correct. And......taking over routes is one thing, but what about profitability or viability in the best case??

Aviation is facing really hard times now. Being unemployed in aviation nowadays is horrible.

According to BBC North West, Loganair will also take over MAN to ABZ & INV; not just EDI.

Ah, of course. Maybe I misheard (likely) or misread the sub-titles on the NW News!

According to this article in the Scotsman. LM are planning to take over the following routes:

Aberdeen to Belfast City, Birmingham, Belfast City and Jersey.

Edinburgh to Cardiff, Exeter, Manchester, Newquay, Southampton

Glasgow to Exeter, Southampton

Inverness to Belfast City, Birmingham, Jersey

Newcastle to Exeter, Southampton

I assumed they would have returned to BHD to GLA, EDI and MAN!

virginblue 5th Mar 2020 13:01

Hopefully they do not overstretch themselves and get into trouble as a result...

Would probably be wiser to take a more cautious approach. They are sort of the last man standing for UK domestic travel in the regions. If they go under as well, it is back to horse carriages and steam engines.

SealinkBF 5th Mar 2020 13:02

I can foresee Eastern and Blue Islands becoming Loganair franchises.

That would be quite the reversal of the situation back in 2017

They really are applying a scattergun approach aren't they. It makes sense that they seize upon the opportunity that BEs demise has provided before others have, but surely it would be more sensible to concentrate on building at BEs biggest bases, rather than opening routes at numerous different airports? With all the Airbus and oil contract work, the contracts with lesser airports like Carlisle that were pursued when BE were still a force, it sounds like they are going to be fighting on a lot of fronts, and perhaps spreading themselves too thinly? I hope it works out for them, but it seems like regional travel needs to retrench to a few key airports.

Most, if not all, of the new LM routes have been launched from their own existing bases rather than opening new ones at former BE bases, so not really that scattergun an approach?

I guess their hands are tied in some respects as before BE collapsed they were forced to look at the lesser airports and routes that no one served. I am sure they would like to cancel some of those routes now but would probably receive a lot of bad publicity as a result. Saying that, BEs demise has been on the cards for sometime so perhaps they should have kept their powder dry in anticipation. launching IOM - LPL in competition with EZY also seems a very strange move. There is surely a lot more lower hanging fruit for them to grab. Gold star for anyone who can come up with a more ridiculous route than ABZ - NQY as well. Pretty sure there is not much oil business being done on Newquay beach.

SWBKCB 11th Mar 2020 20:18

Comes with a contract to provide the patient transfer service for IOM residents. Loganair aren't slow in dropping routes that don't work - for example, they've dropped NCL-BRU, and they've pulled out of EMA completely.
