The new Hampton by Hilton at Exeter Airport was built mainly due to the Flybe Training school there. Another business that may struggle.

I think at the moment that any hotel close to an airport is in for a hard time. Friend runs a B&B close to Gatwick and while his trade is 50-50 between business and travel he says the next 2 weeks bookings are only business.

Exeter / SOU etc will recover but the whole industry will be hit so at least they have some breathing space as it is not just them.

Airsouthwest, the administrators are keeping a small number of flight ops staff employed to keep the AOC running. They have also kept some flybe engineers on to maintain the aircraft until they leave or otherwise.

It is pretty standard that you keep a certain number of people from the old business on. Bumped into old work colleague who worked for a now defunct business and he kept on for 9 months after business folded. Mind you every day was going in playing cards, chatting and on the internet as liquidators were seeking a buyer and need his expertise to show them around.

Previously I had thought that part of the intention of the flybe owners was to keep going until they gained grandfather rights over the Heathrow IAG remedy slots. A couple of posters a few weeks ago pointed out reasons why my theory didn't work. (Then of course reality set in and flybe closed down anyway.)

Now there's confirmation from ACL that the flybe remedy slots have reverted to BA: https://www.acl-uk.org/wp-content/up...-S20-BE-BA.pdf.

With the announced suspension of the 80/20 rule due to coronavirus, BA won't actually have to operate these slots in S2020.

Sad seeing a Flybe Dash 8 parked up at LHR this morning amongst the Dreamliners and Airbus aircraft.

It’s a big thumbs up to state aid from the EU. Member states are being encouraged to take action as they see fit to keep essential sectors, such as transport, operating.

All too late for Flybe.

Ignoring the French regional routes, has anybody been keeping score of which flyBe routes have been picked up and which are still vacant - don't remember any of the international ones? BHX seems quiet?

Exeter

Exeter have just three scheduled flights a day now. Isles of Scilly, Jersey, Geurnsey.

Is that, plus a bit of cargo and flight training, enough to fund an ATC and AFRS?

Guess this will be the big question for most if not all airports going forward now, what each one has outside of commercial operations to keep them afloat, worrying times indeed.

We have had staff briefings about cost cutting and restructure, everything is in scope. Tuesdays no scheduled flights, Cobham rotary training, SAR and air ambulance only some days. Very worrying times here.

Newquay Airport
Think you have forgotten your only based airline at Newquay. Skybus are running daily scheduled flights to IOS out of Newquay.

Yes, but they expanded to cover rheir main customer who has now gone to the wall.
What happens to the people whose jobs were created by the need to serve Flybe?

"Flybe" MRO

A good friend of mine worked on the maintenance side and this has now gone public:

We are the former Flybe aviation engineers of the South West, and we believe there is a future in keeping the engineering, maintenance & repair services alive.

We believe we CAN fix it!

Over 300 skilled aviation engineers available in Exeter, Devon to get started now! Experienced in Line, C-check and A-check maintenance.

Proven track record of on time hand backs and a long list of satisfied customers.

Establishing a maintenance and repair operation in the SW would ensure jobs for the current skilled workforce and secure livelihoods of their families. Over and above, it would allow for training and apprenticeship programs to continue and secure the future skilled engineers of the SW!

Please share to support our efforts!
They really want a make a go of this and quite rightly too

I was passing through MAN yesterday and noticed that there are about eight or nine FlyBe aircraft parked up. Has no one claimed them back? It seems a shame to see them sitting there with trucks or steps blocking their push back. I’d hope they’re being looked after by maintenance engineers somewhere. Not the best time of year to be constantly parked up I’d imagine.

I think there will be a lot more than 8 or 9 flyBe's parked up soon - are you watching the news?!

Apparently the 6 Dashes at SOU have "had the cobwebs blown off" today.

According to Jethros there are currently 4 E170s and 7 Q400s at Manchester. Until landing fees and other charges due to the airport are paid I don’t think they will be going anywhere.

EISNN 18th Mar 2020 00:41

Who owns them? Were they leased or owned by FlyBe? Or is it a mix?

nohold 18th Mar 2020 06:58

I understand that G-PRPH will ferry from Heathrow to Exeter this afternoon (March 18th 2020).

All times are GMT. The time now is 08:31.
