Why do you assume they wouldn't be Covid free?

Probably because on the day that the 14 day quarantine rule came into force in the UK, Sky News and the BBC and other news outlets interviewed a bloke getting off a flight from Switzerland who was clearly ill, had no idea of the current rules and marched off to the Tube! I believe that Iran has had Covid19 quite badly, is not known for its political transparency or healthcare system and is generalyl antagonistic towards the UK. Add the incompetency of the UK authorities into the mix, it isn't really surprising is people are a little skeptical about the inbound pax on an Iranair flight!

They've had fewer deaths than the UK and Spain. Would the poster have said the same about an Iberia flight landing?

TURIN 5th Jul 2020 11:51

According to this article, Iran is not on the exempt list, so anyone arriving from Iran has to self isolate for 14 days.
Grauniad
Along with a number of other countries. However, one would suspect that anyone arriving from Iran will be under some sort of surveilance, maybe?

I don’t usually pop up to ask questions as I’m more of a spectator here, but there’s one question which I’d be really interested to hear anyone’s thoughts on.

As the airport activity picks up over the coming weeks and months, is there an expectation of when the second runway (23L) maybe be reopened? Or is it just too soon for there to be plans on this?

Many thanks

Baltic Skies 10th Jul 2020 09:17

As airbridges start to appear,is there any chance of the airport abandoning its rip off passenger drop off charges for cars using the airport ?
Some minor incentive might go someway towards encouraging people to start travelling again.
I know the money is trivial, compared to the overall cost of the journey, but i do resent the feeling that i am being fleeced, even if it's only for a few quid.

So don't use the drop off areas outside the terminal building, they do provide a completely free alternative:rolleyes:.

spannersatcx 10th Jul 2020 10:30

Apparently 25% of MAG staff being laid off

Fixed that there for you :E

To be honest Baltic Skies has a point - remember that MAN used the 'congestion' excuse to introduce this nakedly obvious money raking scheme? The congestion has gone away - so too should the charge until congeston returns.
MAN's monopolistic thinking works when there are more people than airport - now the shoe is on the other foot and attitudes need to change at MAG. It will need to be considerably more user friendly than in the recent past otherwise people frankly won't bother flying given all the other perceived risks and inconveniences these days.

seahawks 10th Jul 2020 12:04

23L available at short notice if required.
Dual ops summer 21, maybe?

flyerguy 10th Jul 2020 12:32

Looks like passenger numbers are slowly increasing! With Ryanair and EasyJet operating positive numbers (with exemptions) few flights going out fairly close to full. Return flights are still looking hit and miss.

The Ethiopian looks to be operating with extremely low passenger numbers so most likely cargo keeping them going.

Qatar seems to have been given a welcome boost since PIA was suspended from operating!

with more airlines coming in and out so far it looks like the rebound is a lot better than what was anticipated.

Scottie Dog 10th Jul 2020 14:29

Remember that TUI also restart tomorrow, which should help to boost numbers.

Suzeman 10th Jul 2020 14:48

Jet2 also start next week (15th). One or two of their aircraft have been doing test flights in the last couple of days.

Bad news for MAG staff, so good luck to them and others working at MAN going forward.

Which department are the redundancies mostly going to be in?

AndrewH52 10th Jul 2020 22:45

The article actually says 25% of the leadership team is being laid off. Not sure how many are in that grouping.
