WOW Air introducing JFK as another US destination from STN next year via connection in Iceland.

southside bobby 8th Nov 2017 13:37

As being reported elsewhere & on the RYR website the Belfast-Gatwick route currently suspended due to the crewing issues is WEF from 1.3.18 transferring to STN.
3 return daily.

daz211 8th Nov 2017 14:20

That’s good news for Stansted I noticed yesterday there is now a full Chinese version of the Ryanair website.

1sky 8th Nov 2017 17:09

Quite a drop from what they operated from LGW.

Also proof that Ryanair is not quite as successful as it would like to make people believe on high frequency business routes.

daz211 8th Nov 2017 17:32

Trust me Ryanair are successful and more so than we all know there will be a bigger better plan / reason for this discussion just wait and see :ok:

1sky 8th Nov 2017 22:23

Connecting flights at STN finally happening?

A320.b744 8th Nov 2017 22:38

Ryanair operated x4 daily BFS-LGW during the summer, and x5 daily during the winter. Their BFS-STN operation is x3 for the summer, and the winter frequency is still unknown. Losing just one daily frequency isn't exactly a huge drop, especially given that they'll be competing with easyJet on the route.

It also makes more sense for Ryanair to operate the route from STN. They only fly to 4 destinations from LGW, and only commenced the route because the slots were made available as part of IAG's takeover deal of Aer Lingus. It was widely speculated at the time that Ryanair would eventually axe LGW in favour of STN once they re-established themselves in the NI market.

southside bobby 10th Nov 2017 10:42

Jet2Holidays/EXS will add three further Winter destinations from STN for Winter`18.
Antalya,Larnaca & Nice.

daz211 10th Nov 2017 11:01

Nice additions, I still think they are missing a trick by not bettering Ryanair on TSF and CIA and fly to FCO and VCE.

planedrive 10th Nov 2017 11:21

None of which are actually new routes. Antalya and Larnaca have already operated this summer and will be continued through Winter '18. Nice starts in May 2018 and will operate year around as posted a couple of pages back. Good news nonetheless.

Plane.Silly 10th Nov 2017 11:39

It's the classic Ryanair, flying to secondary airports, while Jet2 fly to the main airport. don't seen this often, since FR started using more primaries when targeting more business pax

southside bobby 10th Nov 2017 11:44

planedrive...
Absolutely & aware...I nearly inserted all that originally as it was almost certainly going to be mentioned/picked up.
The way to interpret postings & statements is to read the words!..The keyword there was Winter.
Anyways at least a polite reply & yes it is good news...extra capacity & routes being flown thru Winter 18.

southside bobby 10th Nov 2017 11:51

But CIA is actually v convenient for many (Italians) as it is virtually a city airport & it`s use is restricted by the authorities.
You view all the City landmarks well with the approach too :))

Plane.Silly 10th Nov 2017 12:32

Granted CIA vs FCO is fairly similar, but there's a definite difference between VCE and TSF, which was meant to be my point

Skipness One Echo 13th Nov 2017 00:03

Question for the locals.
Is Sat 2 exclusively Ryanair?
Also, the walkway to the domestic gates downstairs, has that always been there or was it an an addition?

southside bobby 13th Nov 2017 10:32

Busiest ever October for STN...
Traffic figures for the month 2.3m + 7.3% or 160,000 extra pax.
Rolling 12 months now 25.8m.
Cargo + 3% in October.

daz211 13th Nov 2017 11:21

SAT 2 is not exclusive and the domestic gates downstairs has always been there for as long as I can remember going way back to 1990’s hope that helps :ok:

LGS6753 16th Nov 2017 14:53

According to Airlineroute:

Air Corsica will operate three routes from STN in S18 using A320:

Ajaccio – London Stansted eff 03MAY18 2 weekly (Day 47, 3 weekly Day 467 from 01JUN18 to 09SEP18)
Bastia – London Stansted eff 03MAY18 2 weekly (Day 47, 4 weekly Day x123 from 20JUL18 to 05SEP18)
Figari – London Stansted eff 02JUN18 1 weekly (Day 6, 2 weekly Day 36 from 05SEP18)

STN406 17th Nov 2017 07:09

This was announced in October don’t know why ‘Airline Routes’ is only Just releasing this on their website now. Stansted Airport Newsroom put it out on the 26th Oct and I think it was actually announced by the airline a week or so before that around the 12th Oct.

southside bobby 17th Nov 2017 10:00

EXS operated the first of their winter programme from STN to New York (EWR) yesterday utilising a B757.

pamann 17th Nov 2017 10:30

Weren't these flights supposed to operate on an A330?

I remember reading something on here when they first launched this programme of flights.

Plane.Silly 17th Nov 2017 10:59

Initially yes, but they got changed around the beginning of September. Might have struggled to sell them, given the huge LON-EWR market, possibly not enough appeal for a fixed duration.
Also i believe they did go on sale later than the other EWR flights, if they do them next year, they might have a better chance?

daz211 17th Nov 2017 11:20

Can anyone give figures for the load on yesterday’s EWR ?

Hollymead 19th Nov 2017 14:52

If I was going Christmas shopping in New York the last thing I would do is go on an advertised Christmas shopping flight from an airport with no other NY flights , as I would assume the customs would be all over my labels like a rash .

paully 19th Nov 2017 15:11

You mean there will actually BE some Customs officers on??..I came through Stansted last month and there wasn`t any such person in sight

canberra97 19th Nov 2017 15:26

Don't worry they would have been about, some in side rooms dealing with some suspicious passengers as well as monitoring the customs hall via CCTV.

paully 19th Nov 2017 17:27

I`m sure you are right, but I can`t think how they can check what you have in your bags from a CCTV in another room

daz211 19th Nov 2017 17:35

Last 2 trips to Lanzarote arriving back to Stansted not one customs officer in sight walked through the green channel both times and nothing
I remember the days when a flight from the Canary Islands landed they were out in force standing just before the channel directing you to the green and not the blue and once inside you would guarantee at least 5 or 6 passengers with their dirty washing and a stack of cigarettes towering up on the table.

STN Ramp Rat 19th Nov 2017 17:39

last Wednesday evening there was a sheepish looking gentlemen with an large amount of cigarettes who must have incorrectly assumed there would be no one there either. I think I read somewhere that the random search is the least effective way of catching people.

LGS6753 19th Nov 2017 17:59

By its nature, a random test is designed to deter, not apprehend.

daz211 19th Nov 2017 18:08

Just put one of them oversized green Ireland hats on or a Guinness one and a winter jacket and you won’t be touched lol

Maybe the look at your bags without you knowing? They screen them all on the way out, why not on the way in? Anything of interest seen on the X-ray send a plain clothes person to stand by the belt and follow whoever picks the bag up, they'll come out of the office to say hello I'm sure :ok:

STN406 20th Nov 2017 16:54

They get all X-RAY images of bags sent to their systems so they have an idea what is in each bag arriving at the Airport. If they find something suspect on the X-RAY then will then check the passenger who checked the baggage in at example Rome CIA. Once you’ve come through the border customs officers will watch via CCTV or in person to see if you collect the baggage up and when your exiting the baggage hall through the customs channels they will pounce on you and search the baggage.

paully 20th Nov 2017 18:48

But not much use for passengers carrying contraband and travelling with just hand luggage though.

STN406 20th Nov 2017 19:27

This should be taken care of at the departure airport when the bags would be screened by that airport security.

paully 20th Nov 2017 19:50

Yes of course they do, but you want to see what people are buying in the duty free shops and stuffing it into almost empty hand luggage cases, some of which are rather larger than they should be, as we have all no doubt seen. Then walk through an empty customs hall and out..

Travel from the Canaries a lot and regularly see this. Didn`t happen so much when there were staff present. Ah well that`s progress for you eh.

STN406 20th Nov 2017 20:07

The last few times I have brought goods from duty free from inside the E.U and outside the person selling has asked for my boarding card and check my destination to make sure I was not taking too much in. I have also noticed in nearly all duty free stores when traveling they all often have signs explaining the import limits for individual countries.

daz211 21st Nov 2017 08:21

That’s all well and good but when you go to the Canary Islands you can get 200 fags from the local spar for €25 no boarding card needed.

southside bobby 21st Nov 2017 13:23

RYR...
STN-Rimini 2 per week commence March`18....

AirportPlanner1 21st Nov 2017 13:47

Wasn't Rimini one of the early FR European routes back in the late 90s?
