Station Opening Date

East Midlands Parkway station is now scheduled to open on the 26th January.

I'm not sure what, if any, bus connections to the airport there will be due to the number of trains stopping there initially - approximately 100 per day.
I think I read somewhere this is due to signalling issues, which once resolved, will allow an increase and a better spread of services throughout the day.

East Midlands Parkway

Excuse my geographical ignorance, but which line is it on; that is, which two stations is it in between; and where are the trains' origins/destinations?

egnxema 13th Jan 2009 22:58

Its on the Midland Main Line. St Pancras to Nottingham and Derby, just south of where the line splits to the 2 cities.

Northbound East Midlands train will call Loughborough, East mids Pkway, Nottingham.

johnnychips 13th Jan 2009 23:23

East Midlands Parkway

Thanks for that.So presumably it'll be serving the market south of the airport on the Midland Main Line, as if there is a bus tranfer (how long will it take?) people from Nottingham, Leicester and Loughborough would be just as quick taking a bus directly anyway.

egnxema 14th Jan 2009 12:30

Timing of the bus transfer from EMPway to EMA will really depend on time of day - in the peak the transfer will have the M! J24 to negotiate in both directions - big queues. In the off peak, it should be 5/6 mins non-stop.

First Bag 14th Jan 2009 21:18

Anyone know when the link road from the central apron to cargo west is due to open, its been finished for months now and still no sign of it opening

jubilee 14th Jan 2009 21:31

Just to clarify, Midland Mainline lost the franchise, and the route from is now operated by East Midlands Railways.

Have just had a flight from East Midlands, which for me is a rare event as I normally use Manchester.
I passed through the airport on a Sunday afternoon, and was not impressed with the place. Would hate to turn up at security when it was busy.

On the return, tour of the airport by bus to to reach passport control which seemed a short walk from where the aircraft parked.
On the plus side all the staff we encountered, were very pleasant and helpful.

With Thomas Cook now transfering from Menzies to Servisair from 1st Feb 09, how will this effect there summer schedule, Monarch and bmi both operate flights for TCX, will these be handled by Servisair as well, I do doubt bmi will be!

egnxema 16th Jan 2009 16:42

Jubilee

It WAS busy - it's just that you are used to the HUGE crazy queues at MAN.;)

Thanks for the clarification, but to clarify, Midland Mainline was the name of the previous franchise holder on the Midland Main Line, the current operator of services on the Midland Main Line is East Midlands Trains.

The West Coast Main Line, Midland Main Line and East Coast Main Line are the 3 principle north south rail routes in the UK.

Normally there are 2 MAH flights and then that aircraft goes of to TFS for a second time in the day, but it also looks like there is just the one TFS now, so where will the aircraft go after JSI?

EMA Bulgaria Flights. RYR. UKIA.

With The Massive Increase In Flights 2 Turkey This Summer. Has There Been Any Increases In Flights To Bulgaria?

Shame That Pegasus Have Not Returned 2 EMA. Do They Just Operate For One Tour Company?

RYR Heard They Are Staying At 6 Based Aircraft 4 S09 Thou Not Confirmed.

UKIA 767 Was Started Up This Week and Heard its Going Back Into the BMI Hanger 4 Some More Work. Then Hopefully It Finally Will Be Away. Heard Now Its Going to Ireland.

Anyone Got Any PAX Numbers for the IOM Service Just Wondered How It Was Doing.

Stuart I Notice U Mentioned GCI? Is That Maybe With GR Operating It Or Another Carrier.

Thanks NJTCF.

OltonPete 25th Jan 2009 17:07

Ryanair

The rumour of FR staying at six seems to hold some credibility per the
FR booking engine.

I wrote EMA's schedule down when it was released and although I
can't find it now Sundays at times required 8 aircraft. Now it fits 6
plus one additional flight. Monday & Tuesday now fit six as well.

Some of the EMA destinations missing in April or reduced are: -

Alghero, Nimes, Lodz, Rimini, Santiago & Perpignan - None
Rome - daily to four a week
Bratislava - four to two a week
Berlin SXF - Daiy to four a week

I know some of the ones above ceased ages ago but I seem to
remember Lodz, Alghero, Nimes & Rimini operating last summer.

Seems the Midlands is getting nothing in terms of extra aircraft as
bhx is supposed to be staying at 4 although the whole schedule is
a mess, requiring 5 most days but it could easily fit 4.

Pete

OliWW 25th Jan 2009 17:56

Someone I was talking to at the viewing park at EMA last weekend said to me that there will defo be 7 FRs based at EMA this summer, with a possible 8 by July

NJTCF 25th Jan 2009 19:12

"nn"s in Don(n)ington

Depends on your age, on how many "n"s in Don(n)ington. There are several mileposts in the locality, originating from the turnpike days; some of which do spell Don(n)ington with the double 'n'. HINT: if you do any internet searches on RAF Donington, always try both spellings as there appeared to be some doubt on the contemporary usage. Modern day acceptance is just the one 'n'. Or you could of course try "Nottingham +derby +leicester +international +castledon +any combination of the lot" for your searches.
I seem to remember that the mileposts on the Trent and Mersey Canal also have the same confusion of spelling.

Just for your info, it was 'Dunitone' in the Doomsday Book of 1086, and a large castle was built in 1260, replacing a smaller motte-and-bailey type.

turbroprop 27th Jan 2009 14:41

Nice one Jonny C

I Did Not Know There Were Airports Back In Them Days :ok:

turbroprop 27th Jan 2009 14:44

Another thought

Was the larger castle built due to a increase in passengers? Flights to the Crusades etc.

stuart-travel 27th Jan 2009 15:40

Crusader holidays ema (castle) to a field one way tours (sick)

Percy pilcher airways ema (castle) to Stamford hall heavy landing (very sick)

Im sure their are more but must get back to 2009

Great pics.

So how many diverts in total today?

I had a quick count while up Diseworth lane about 16:00 and counted 8 FR on the DHL ramp, plus the BA 777, at least another 6 FR on the central apron, with plenty of WW and a FCA thrown in - vis too poor to see what was on Cargo East.

Any one got any details?

Was interested to hear that some longhaul from US plus middle east diverted to PIK today/ Was EMA full many times today and unable to take more heavies?

I imagine the terminal was teaming with FR pax though.
