Ryanair

Heard from a good source that a Ryanair announcemeunt is imminent for BHD and that the routes concerned will be short range ones.

Belboy 25th Jul 2007 07:17

This question has been asked before but I'm not sure it has been answered, if it has please let me know where. What restrictions face the 737 800 on a runway of 1829 metres. I know that CODA is slightly longer and believe there is a significant seat penalty on certain routes, will it be more restrictive at BHD?
Sadly it will spell the end of all that set 'city' apart from its competition as the more up market business type airport but apart from that and the negatives for the residents of Kinnegar, East Belfast and Cultra, the traveller will have never had it so good!

frequentflyer2 25th Jul 2007 07:55

When will this Heathrow service be officially announced? If they intend to start next month they'll have to start selling it or the planes will be flying empty.

I'm confused

I am really confused now.

If AirBerlin have managed to operate a B738 from BHD full on a shorter runway than LDY. Why are FR restricted at LDY with a longer runway?

gate 22 25th Jul 2007 08:12

On BBC site and radio Ulster news, apparantly the BBC has 'learned' that EI are to start LHR/BFS in August.

mysecretsmile 25th Jul 2007 08:38

I believe the issues with Ryanair's B738 at Derry airport are to do with the brakes (or cooling off the brakes) & turnaround times more than the runway length ?

belfast

its showing Belfast to Glasgow,Liverpool and East Midlands on Ryanair's route map now.

tallseabird 25th Jul 2007 09:56

On the route map, if you click on the destination Belfast, it starts to tell you about Belfast International Airport, maybe MOL intends to rename BHD, or possibly some indecision!

840 25th Jul 2007 09:58

Would the distance from Belfast City to Belfast International be roughly the same as the distance from City of Derry to Eglinton :E

ESCNI 25th Jul 2007 10:25

BHD/LPL...only once a day...starting at £78 return at weekends.

That'll hardly have easyJet quaking in their boots.

tallseabird 25th Jul 2007 10:36

Well that's a bit of a damp squib from FR, is that how they are going to remain under the BHD cap. Most likely at some point in the future they will start to complain that they can't make it work if the cap is not lifted.

Belfast International Airport is located centrally within Northern Ireland and is also convenient to the border regions of the Republic of Ireland. Belfast city centre is just 20 minutes away by car, whilst the historical city of Londonderry in the North West is approx 1hr 25 minutes away by car. Airport Express 300 operates a 24 hour service between the airport and Belfast with buses departing every 10 minutes throughout the day. The bus leaves from the bus stop located opposite the terminal exit. Approximate journey time 30-40 minutes subject to traffic conditions.
Direct from the RYR website...they seem a little confused:hmm::hmm:

ESCNI 25th Jul 2007 10:38

Landing at the wrong airport again?

:O

gate 22 25th Jul 2007 10:43

FR at BHD - LPL, EMA (nothing new there one flight a day each) good to see Prestwick. What about the continent are there more to be released.

cougafer 25th Jul 2007 10:46

It's a shame FR didn't announce a few-times-daily service to STN, seeing as AB will be cutting their STN-BHD-STN flights just before FR start their LPL, EMA and PIK services. STN would've been useful for connections to other [FR] services...
Oh well...Hopefully the EI service to LHR (if it's ever officially announced:hmm: ) will offer better fares to LHR

gate 22 25th Jul 2007 10:52

And so onto another rumour who told you that AB are cutting BHD-STN I thought it was improving

ALLMCC 25th Jul 2007 11:21

Surprised at PIK, all the speculation suggested BRS which Flybe ditched recently along with LPL. Also expected at least 2X daily on both LPL and EMA, maybe FR being cautious initiallly until they see what response is like.
Anyway, good news, will be interesting to see when/if Aer Lingus make their move at BFS.They will have their work cut out on LHR if they are only planning 4X daily against BMIs' 8X from BHD - even if they have a late arrival from LHR, their fares will need to be ultra competitive as it is likely BMI will review their fare structure to protect their market share.

With regard to AB, if they do pull STN from BHD, is it not almost certain FR would step in?

Skipness One Echo 25th Jul 2007 11:22

Wow. Prestwick to Belfast in a B737-800...........barely enough time to get the scratchcards out lol
Good stuff

gate 22 25th Jul 2007 11:46

BMIs' 8X from BHD

If EI start LHR at BFS, it will be bye-bye to high frequency flights with BD.
