Stockholm

I have no knowledge as to whether this is, or is not, a possible route.

Looking at the destination in comparison with others, I would make the following points:

Stockholm is a fantastic city - a good leisure destination that is no more expensive than most other European cities. It's an all year place as the winters are cold and crisp and the summers hot and light (22h daylight)

Newcastle, the North East and Northumberland is an attractive leisure destination for the Swedes; shopping, shopping, shopping and country side.

Arlanda is a good hub airport. Lots of Scandinavian connections but also America and Canada.

Just some thoughts, when you compare to some pure leisure destinations currently served then Stockholm stands up.

It's not my money to risk so I'll leave the decsions to those whose money it is.

There are lots of European cities which are well within reach by a Q400 from NCL which would stand an excellent chance of working. I am sure Flybe will be examining all the possibilities, places like ZRH, MUC, FRA, STR, OSL, LYS, SZG, GNB all spring to mind. They could even focus on leisure orientated routes during the summer, then change to ski routes in the winter. ARN could very well work, though I do think there are more viable routes to be started, but only time will tell if and when new routes are announced. I know we all complained and criticised when NCL's ramp was jam packed with aircraft, but it would be nice to see it continue.

Regarding facilities in NCL, such as the car park, number of check in counters and smells at stands - yes they are all a problem, but somebody has to make complaints to relevant departments in order for them to change. I think eventually the car park situation is going to be sorted (HOPEFULLY!). As for check in's - airline managers need to start getting onto the airport if their full allocation is not being provided and more focus on self service check in placed?!

Lets run a competition to see what development will take place and what the new new route will be??? Haha

Check-in

Remind me please.
How many desks do BA use for check-in and bag drop?
and are they used for other carriers outside BA's small programme?

BA have 4 self service kiosks then 4 check in desks. If you have a connecting flight with either BA or a One world Allicance member airline you can be checked at NCL for it, and your bags tagged all the way to your final destination.

lukey lad

Many thanks.

A little OTT for the size of aircraft and number of flights operated.
Seem to think they had the same when operating the LGW as well.

Mr DL et al need to do some basic check-in analysis to see if the current desk allocations are making the best use of the limited resources.

lukeylad.... as "tacky" as YOU think those ads maybe id just like to remind u they serve a purpose, to get bums on seats, without which i wouldnt have a job working for Jet2 and you wouldnt have a job checking them in via swissport. If we have no pax, we loose flights, if we loose flights we cut back on swissports expensive premium service which they give us (yes - i am taking the p*ss) and eventually... all the way down the bottom of the line, is u, checkin.... ud be out of a job as well. So no matter how "tacky" the ads are, just turn your head the other way and carry on driving home.

Check In desks

I think each airline independantly agrees service principles with the airport and handling agents, this includes how many desks are allocated per flight for check in purposes. The airport will then plan around these principles, to accommodate what the airline is paying for?! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. For example, BA always get their 4 desks and no other airline ever uses them - all for an Airbus!? Wether all 4 desks are manned is upto Swissport. On the flip side of the coin, monday mornings last summer, TOM had 3 flights (2x757, 1x737) all departing within 30 mins of each other, but I'm guessing that they did not get the desks they pay for - wether that was due to lack of desks or a failure elsewhere who knows? One thing is for sure, at certain times NCL is short on desks, not all the time but peak periods!

Advertising

Have to agree with the comments on adverts. Yes, sometimes they may not be pretty but without NCL wouldn't have as many bums on seats, hence in the long run the chance of the route surviving is slim, which could lead to job losses. Maybe if all routes ex NCL was advertised as prolifically as LS, then they'd work out more!?!

Richard Taylor 6th Feb 2008 19:51

Tacky advertising doesn't seem to have done Ryanair any harm.....

(I'd better add ALLEGEDLY...:} )

transwede 7th Feb 2008 18:36

Has the decision been reached as to who will handle FCA/TOM? Obviously Swissport have both at the moment, however have been reading Ground Ops forum and they seem to be changing at quite alot of stations, resulting in an end to the 'exclusive' Servisair contract TOM used to have all over the UK (except NCL!)!!!!!!!

EGNT 9th Feb 2008 16:17

Anyone got any idea why todays EK flight says "Board Coaches Outside" ?
Anyone know where whats happened to the a/c and where the pax are off to?

AviationNE 9th Feb 2008 16:26

EK

The emirates is Parked on Stand 24, or 25 Currently. Tech due engine problems. Estimated to depart tommorow morning. Passengers going to Hotels.

Cheers for the quick reply,

757 Speedbrakes 9th Feb 2008 18:21

Ahh, that means EK has had more tech delays than LS this year!!!!

(Lets hope I didn't speak too soon!!)

AviationNE 9th Feb 2008 18:30

LS Delays

I cannot be 100% sure but so far Ek have had 1 albeit a big one and Jet2 have had at least two small ones that I have heard of. So not neccesarily.

Channex101 9th Feb 2008 18:54

I wouldnt believe everything you here, Jet2 have had no tech delays so far this year. (but it is only 8 or 9 wks in to the year!)

AviationNE 9th Feb 2008 19:34

Jet2 Delays

Not what i heard. I was at Work on Friday and The Cork had a 15 Minute Tech delay. Its only 15 minutes but its still a tech delay. Can I also just point out that I Have no malice for Jet2 and believe they are a superb airline.

Channex101 10th Feb 2008 15:48

Ah well at least if it was for 15min it was for something small (must have been the cargo door handle) and not a major delay with a major problem like an engine... dont get me wrong though, we all have those delays!

Easyjet further reductions

There seems to be quite a few further cutbacks from Easyjet at the moment. Noticed some reductions to BFS ( some days only 2 flights instead of three ). Tommorrow there are only 2 early morning departures instead of usually 5 (or 4 on TUE). No BRS or BFS.

Is this due to lack of pax or crew or another reason? I was at NCL last week first time since Sept, and whilst I realise it is winter it was very very quiet.

gate 22 11th Feb 2008 22:24

Noticed some reductions to BFS

I thought BE had an early flight into NCL tomorrow morning from BHD. Basically there are no flights between the NE of England and NI tomorrow am. There must be nobody travelling these days.

sunshine79 13th Feb 2008 22:01

I've noticed a few delays and diversions at NCL, with a couple of flights cancelled tomorrow morning, what's happening over there? Is it due to the weather? (it normally is)
