It was reported in The Times on 23 Apr together with some silly comments from a consultant. There was a letter from NATS two days later.

In luton there is an advertisement advertising on a big billboard showing easyjet and a route to split, as far as i know they dont fly there and dont plan to either, a new route or a mistake?

Unofficial consultation was undertaken by NATS with a number of general aviation organisations prior to formal consultation commencing, or so I understand? The CAA Airspace Change Proposal process involves two consultation phases - Informal and later Formal. Neither Phase has yet been started. Anyone who objects to the proppsals should remember that NATS is simply responding to Government policy on airports and on the requirement placed on it to provide 'adequate airspace capacity' to meet the needs of the industry. That said, Government policy on airports is in large measure in direct contradiction to Government policy on the Environment - but then when ever did this Government and it's army of spin doctors and advisers, plus the hordes of civil servants beavering away at the tax payer's expense, ever demonstrate coherent and joined-up thinking when it comes to policy issues...? :hmm: |

At the flight levels being talked about (Rumour of course), the general aviation fraternity could well be suffering from some hypoxia? Regardless of whether the Official or Unofficial consultation has commenced, what is evidently clear is that by giving Luton its own unique hold/stack, this releases a huge airspace capacity increase for both airports and in particular to Stansted. This is in anticipation of a second runway in Essex? Meanwhile, folk on here are complaining about only two workmen on a roundabout at Luton airport and the congestion resulting on the local roads. Sadly regardless of consultation or anything else, Luton needs to be rapidly developing NOW! So I guess an additional workman on the roundabout might be a step forward? Those two workman might move on to the parallel taxiways, rapid runway exits and parking stand creation next? Do the words "Mickey Mouse" & "Town Hall" rhyme, because they should? Wizz! are 'testing the Stansted water', lets us hope that those waters are shark infested and not warm and welcoming from a Spanish airport competitor? |
Wizz! are 'testing the Stansted water'... That said, Wizz has some significant expansion plans which it would like to see happen at Luton but which at the present time - because of the situation between LBC and ACDL - just cannot be accommodated as the necessary infrastructure isn't in place. Ditto the situation with Silverjet (although its expansion aspirations are rather more medium-term). Sadly, unless both parties sort out the current stale-mate and further development takes place at Luton (and I'm not talking about the road construction which seems to now be weeks if not months behind schedule), once additional runway capacity is provided at Stansted, Luton will simply fade into obscurity, and LBC will have lost its golden goose. :{ :hmm: :ugh: |
Anyone know what loads are like on the Luton Jersey service? Beginning of the month i went out on Saturday, back Wednesday, & it was virtualy full, But that was the bank holiday weekend.

Does anyone have any very recent movement statistics as the rumour is that Luton is busier than last May by a substantial amount?
Could just be peaks in traffic causing the impression? Wizz actively looking toward Essex for possible expansion, a senior management figure is ex Go, or has had Go connections in the past? Are the two workmen on the roundabout coping or have they moved onto the parallel taxiway already? Confused Bear again.....since easyJet have decided to ship out 150-200 jobs abroad, why do they need a hangar to house all their staff? Rumour Control out! |
The roundabout construction is a joke. I was thinking at the end of March that the roundabout was nearly finished and the diversion would be ended for Easter. Now at the end of May the area looks no more finished than it did then.

The barrier has been up since Monday and you can drive into Percival Way, just that road surface is bad, but then so are all Luton's roads.

I went to Jersey on the 10th -13th and it was full both ways which surprised me as it was only a new service.
