Would that help?

Frequently, they swap crews on the EI611 and EI845 in Amsterdam, particularly on a Friday night. What it seems to mean is that if either the EI844 or EI 610 are late coming in, both are late leaving.

Maybe in London the greater number of flights would allow more flexibility.

Boeing Business jet arrived in Cork today for a few days but was made position to Shannon as there "is no parking spaces available"..what a joke. Unfortunatlely a common occurence due to the mismanagement of Cork airport by a civil servant who allegedly is supposed to be an Operations manager. The sooner Cork airport is privatised the better:ugh:

eick320 17th Jul 2008 17:49

The flght deck crew of the Ei724 now overnight in london and the crew of the inbound Ei184 both cabin and flight deck operate the flight home to Cork. On most nights its the Ei184 aircraft that operates too, but if theres delays the flight deck crew of the Ei724 can be asked to operate the Ei725. This gives LHR ops 2 chances of opearting the Ei725 on time. The reason for last weeks problems were more down to atc delays than operational reasons. In relation to AMS there isnt a crew change any longer.

Plan for the airport

Bad to see trafic being diverted for lack of parking . Opportunity arising to address the issue as Cork County Council is preparing a local area plan for Cork airport and its environs, so some thoughts should be put together on matters such as potential use of old terminal, retaining ground for additional aircraft parking, runway extension needs, etc. Public consultation will take place in coming months .Any early views?

Parking at Cork

BBJ a Gulfstreams 5 and Citation Excel were banished to Shannon for the weekend. In fairness they did allow 3 other Executive Jets park in Cork. The problem is that even if a small biz jet parks in a stand designed for a 757 the gurus won't allow a 2nd one park anywhere near it. Cork doesn't have purpose built General Aviation stands. Surely Common sense should prevail.

In any event now that TNT and DHL have ditched Cork there will be extra stands available. The latter are going at the end of August. One way to free up extra stands is to keep losing customers e.g Easyjet , CSA, Malev,
Central Wings, BMI Regional, Loganiair, TNT, DHL. Skyeurope next?

DHL have ditched Cork there will be extra stands available.
Have DHL left? I know they stopped operating from Cork themselves a year or two ago and instead subcontracted the service to Neptune who operate cargo flights to/from East Midlands on their behalf. Has this stopped?

SkyEurope

See the Luton thread.

Cork, Dublin & BHX to end.

BHX we knew about and does not even operate in October.

Dublin and cork no longer bookable from end of October.

That is wonderful news (not the high fares !). I remember when they first started the route and how tentative they were in adding an extra flight. AMS is such a breeze to connect through compared to LHR.

Nice to see that Brussels Airport have Cork on their wishlist :ok:
The Route Shop | Brussels Airport (BRU) required routes

I wonder what routes Cork Airport would list on this website if they were members ...?
  • Brussels
  • Budapest
  • Copenhagen
  • Frankfurt
  • Glasgow*
  • Krakow*
  • Luton*
  • Madrid
  • Milan
  • New York
  • Riga
  • Stockholm
  • Venice
  • Vienna*

*Maybe not a good idea to pursue these ones as they might damage existing routes...

ryan2000 23rd Jul 2008 20:54

Ork Vie

Vienna definetely worth pursuing now that Skyeurope are packing their bags

EI 706 24th Jul 2008 22:16

Ryanair now have the fifth DUB-ORK flight bookable for the winter which includes Saturdays and Sundays will again now have four FR flights.
There is another BBJ due in Cork on August 4th, this one belonging to a one time regular who was also told in the past to sling his hook.
Cork City Football club are using a Cimber CRJ2 for their away leg to Finland in the UEFA cup next week.

Tom the Tenor 29th Jul 2008 00:41

Well, there is one thing for sure - whether it be push bike, motorbike, car, train or plane, High Meadow 19, yez wont be parking anything at all on 'Ballypheane Road' because it dont exist.

A new southside soap opera coming to Cork TV screens this autumn - 'Ballypheane Road!' Good way to get airport themes going in our new southside soap opera - after all Cork Airport happens to be in the parish of Ballypheane. How many of yez knew that little gem?!

Interesting pair of posts you have there though.

Cimber sending in a CRJ later in the morning to bring Cork City to Finland for one of the EUFA competitions and Aer Arann brought Roy Keane's Sunderland to Cork yesterday for last night's friendly game against Cobh Ramblers.

Who won?

Were yez all listening to M Cawley on the radio yesterday morning and reading Ducksie's comments on the website. We are all right but we must moan and whinge a bit. Do you know what, Aer Arann should start a service not to Luton but to Stansted - the opening is all ready there, no Tuesday & Thursday FR905/6 for the winter and while they are at it go to Brussels or better still, Charleroi, to bring some joy to Charlie Roy. RE have the right aeroplanes these days - hard to argue against that?

ryan2000 29th Jul 2008 08:39

RE to STN

How could RE possibly compete with FR on ORK STN? FR will be giving away seats on it this winter.

Bmi Baby Pulling Out

Heard a rumour yesterday that BMI Baby had informed the CAA of their intentions to pull out of cork. Surely more bad news for the peoples republic of cork. No def dates but winter season one would guess.

There was rumours of that a while back but Baby have put flights on sale for the winter on both routes so they seem to be staying put (Manchester is even at a higher frequency than last winter).

BMI Baby

The fact that they've put extra flights on sale on ORK-MAN sounds more positive although the presence of EI on both those routes must be putting pressure on them. Load factors for both carriers on ORK-MAN and ORK-BHX only in the 50% range during June.

Tom the Tenor 29th Jul 2008 19:31

EI should dump both BHX and MAN. 50% load factors in June! Drop 'em both like a stone tomorrow! Do something useful like double daily AMS and a daily to LGW - I have heard that FR are making a fortune on the sole daily flight to Gatwick. Cork can easily absorb another Gatwick flight.

It is only going to get more and more difficult for Cork to get any more new scheduled European routes - what chance does Cork have if Skyeurope have had enough in spite of 80% load factors!! I am sure there is going to be the odd new opportunity for Cork but it is probaby time to consolidate with what Cork has and to get as much out of what the place has by adding in extra frequencies on the routes that work.

Vienna and Brussels has been called for along with a destination to northern Italy - the question is will Cork people want to go there like they want to go to Spain and the Canaries? A double daily AMS would minimise the chances of a Brussels from EI but that is not to say RE could create a niche market like in the way the last few weeks of Jetmagic on Brussels worked out quite okay in the end in spite of the excesses of capacity in the very early days.

To my mind north Italy would be better served by Ryanair or even one of the Italian operators with 737-300 and CRJ900s (Air One??, Myair??) rather than Aer Lingus. Pisa or Venice would be my choice rather than Milan - there is more to do for Cork people in Pisa/Florence and Venice areas than Milan?? Says he tongue in cheek!

Just pray that the price of fuel returns to more manageable levels. Otherwise we are screwed - once again looks like we in Cork may pay dearly for being on the periphery of western Europe.

ryan2000 29th Jul 2008 20:06

Cork routes

Italian operators have no interest in Ireland.

Brussells might work for Aer Arann but Jet Magic got badly burnt on this route as leesiders from stag party lovers to businessmen drove to Shannon to support Ryanair's Charleroi flight.

I'd say Cork will be doing well to hold its own for the next few years. The only realistic hope of expansion will come from a 5th EI A320 or a few extra Ryanair flights.

Manchester and Birmingham

EI should dump both BHX and MAN. 50% load factors in June!
There is a very large market for travel to Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham from mid August to mid May for the many premiership and Champions League games which Man United, Liverpool, Man City Aston Villa etc are involved in. I suggest you take a look at the fares on the days before and after Man United are playing at home and you will get a good idea of how much money can be made. Last year for the Sunderland game BMI baby were charging Euro680 retrurn. Aer Lingus and Ryanair were quite a bit "cheaper" at Euro450. The BMIbaby flts I travelled on were full. This is a regular occurence over the winter months.
