How do Wizz operate the Kiev and Riga services? The aircraft go out from Luton at 13:00 and 14:05 respectively, and return at 20:05 and 20:10 on alternate days. However, there is nothing back to a base at 20:35 or later. Are aircraft nightstopping at Luton? Some Sofia services have been retimed, as the same aircraft does Luton - Bourgas and Luton - Zagreb. |

Wizzair financial results
Wizzair are not usually very forthcoming with their financial results (of course, they have no need to be).

Yes, I've seen this in a couple languages other than English (generally the same data) and a short note in English via Hungary (Budapest Business Journal). Still doesn't look very dramatically, though.

Wizzair announced few days ago that it will open three routes from Riga (RIX) to Luton, Tampere and Oslo. Does anybody know how this routes will be served? Are they going to open a base in Riga soon? Thank you in advance.

Aleksej, all current routes to RIX start at linked cities.
For example, Oslo is part of route GDN - TRF - RIX - TRF - GDN. Interesting that plane, flying TKU - RIX - TKU comes and returnes from nowhere, there are no connecting flights from\to TKU those days (We,Su) at the moment. More routes or frequencies from Turku to be announced. |
I have heard through the grapevine that someone may be flying Turku - LTN next year, could it be Wizz? Would be interesting if so as the first completely non Iron curtain route. So could be ???-LTN-TKU-RIX-TKU-LTN-??? Or even more interestingly a LTN base possibly. As if the rotation above is true it would probably be a. just too long to operate with one crew and b. arriving at final base in the small hours based on the TKU-RIX timings.

I've had a look at peak summer... those Sofia aircraft are being fairly well utilised!
Mon / Wed / Fri / Sun 06:00 Sofia - Luton 07:25 - 07:55 Luton - Zagreb 11:15 - 11:45 Zagreb - Luton 13:15 - 13:50 Luton - Bourgas 19:10 - 19:45 Bourgas - Luton 21:20 - 21:50 Luton - Sofia 02:55 Tue / Thu / Sat Starts at Sofia 11:55 then to Luton for Varna or Bourgas, but still finishing up at 02:55 How on earth do they crew those sort of days? Riga, Kiev and Prague to Luton all not yet on sale for peak summer, so maybe there is still to be some re-jigging of the schedules to cover the former two with a/c from the latter? |
TKU - RIX departs at 18:40 and returns at 21:20 on Wednesday and Sunday.
GDN - TKU currently arrives at 18:10 and leaves at 18:40 on Mon, Wed, Fri and Sun. So I'd expect the Gdansk aircraft to go off to Riga on Wednesdays and Sundays, and for the TKU - GDN flights on those days to be retimed to 21:50. |

Wizz air to grow in poland
Wizz Air will grow 30% in Poland in 2010 - 3 new aircraft, 22 new routes, 1500 new jobs
Wizz Air, the largest low fare - low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe announced at a press conference in Warsaw today that it would increase capacity on its Polish network by 30% in 2010. Wizz Air carried 3.6 million passengers in Poland in 2009 and plans to fly 4.7 million passengers in 2010. The airline's Polish fleet will increase to 14 Airbus A320 aircraft by March 2010. Following the earlier announced expansions in Gdansk and Warsaw as well as the opening of the Wroclaw base Wizz Air will also expand operations in Katowice by adding a new aircraft in March 2010. Also in March Wizz Air will start flying Łodz, the 6th Polish airport the airline operates from. The carrier will open 22 new routes and reinstate the summer seasonal services. The airline's Polish network will consist of 86 routes next summer. Bearing in mind the relationship between TPG and Indigo groups, investors in both FR and Wizz I doubt whether Wizz would go bust.
Given the lack of competition between the 2 on routes I could see something along the lines of a financial collabaration of some sort to suit both of them. Bookies are being a bit lazy in ignoring ownership and who is involved. |

Wizzair Ukraine Incident at Luton
Ukrtatnafta refuses to fuel Wizz Air planes after Luton airport incident
Ukraine's oil company Ukrtatnafta has said it excluded the Wizz Air airline from the list of its contracting parties and refused to provide this airline with aviation fuel and fill up the airplanes. The company claimed that this decision is conditioned 'by an inadmissible and even inadequate behavior of the Wizz Air staff with passengers at the Luton Airport, when not only all professional norms have been ignored, but human rights have been actually violated'. Ukrtatnafta expressed indignation over impermissible, in its view, behavior of Wizz Air that cannot be justified by any force-majeure circumstances. Ukrtatnafta claims its principled citizenship and protests against unmotivated aggressive actions of Wizz Air against its passengers. Mass media earlier reported quoting one of the passengers as saying that passengers traveling by the W6902 London - Kyiv flight of Wizz Air 'were turned out from the plane with the help of police, dogs and special gas agents' at the London Luton Airport. Ukraine's Foreign Minister Petro Poroshenko said he was going to meet a Wizz Air Ukraine representative to find out the details of the airport incident. Thought the dogs only came out for the Israeli flights? |
