He's obviously trying to get hifly to run everything operational as a wet lease and things he can just do add on bits. Can’t wait to see the FAA CAA reaction to wet leasing full ACMI from UK to USA.

It looks like the government has chosen 9L instead... no doubt they had a hugely unfair advantage over Global by actually possessing licenses, planes and employees...

I doubt whether Kigali could handle a 380, unless the UK govt pay to upgrade the airport!!!

Why not. They are determined to be seen trying absolutely everything to achieve precisely nothing. Something HM Gov and Global seem to have in common.

Wonder how long Mr. Horner will retain his extremely youthful appearance after he has taken a closer look at Global's business plan!

Yet another thread full of negativity. PpRuNe is such a depressing read these days.

Hi there Vectisman - 'pot - kettle - black?'

C'mon, chip in then, please tell us some positive things about Global. Where's the upside for airline staff and our industry when folks are spinning a story that simply ain't plausible.

Tabloid media love it. But medium term, who are the winners? Travelling public? Investors? Industry credibility?

I suspect it won't ever get as far as stranded passengers, but even the fairy tales don't come cost free...

I just believe in giving everyone a chance. Great things are made from wild dreams. People though Richard Branson was mad years ago.

So, Mr. Horner has 'significant industry experience' but which industry? Having worked in the City of London, I have never considered it an 'industry'.

Branson did create new companies that gave - and continue to give - thousands of people employment. You could ask the founder of PPRuNe who was a pilot for them (now retired). VS started in 1984 and, with troubles, is still going 40 years later. When GLOBAL has reached 4 years of operations, I shall acknowledge them.

To be fair though Branson did employ Sir Freddy Laker, have Virgin Records to help finance and of course Branson's approach to business which is to either succeed within the first year or exit the market; this ethos includes a one-year limit being expressed upon everything associated with starting up operations. Global was incorporated July 2021

Thanks Brian Pern for the cv of their Head of Finance.

Indeed, Branson learnt from how Laker was 'turned over' by the big boys and was ready when they started on him.

Some free advice for the team:
Read the history as Asquith was not yet born when Laker rose and fell and VAA began. I think he needs to remember that there is nothing new under the sun. Read what happened before and why it succeeded / failed. Before you start on the same road.

Read the history of the Biz only airlines and how many of them are still going. Also, what market they serve.

Unfortunately, many in the finance 'industry' have not read the lessons of 1929 and 2008. He should look at how pax in the UK/Europe/USA spend their holiday money NOW and imagine the fnancial situation across the next five years. Also, the likely political stability of the UK and USA.

As usual the Global hyperbole... the description 'KPMG Veteran' makes it sound as if little Jack Horner was sat in the corner at KPMG for decades... a grizzled veteran of acquisitions, mergers, restructures and whatnot.

Whereas in fact the lad spent less than five years with the firm and a good chunk of that was during COVID.

That audit experience may well come in useful however...

Asquith sees himself as a disrupter. The only disruption he’s going to find is EU261 when the whale fails.

Five years at a one of the global accountancy "big 4" firms (my daughter works for one of the others, in audit, in London) will be like 10 years in any "normal" job. They take their pound of flesh, and then some.
Burn-out and high staff turnover are givens, their business models and internal structure are based on it.

Not the main topic, but if the Big 4 Accountancy firms are the training ground, KPMG's UK audit team seem to have a meticulous attention to detail. Top headlines from Google for the last 5 years:

04MAR24 - KPMG Fined almost £1.5m over M&C Saatchi audit failures (Independent)
12OCT23 - KPMG hit with record fine for 'textbook failure' in Carillion audits (Reuters)
26APR23 - KPMG fined £1m over 'rudimentary' failures in TheWorks audit (FT)
24MAR22 - KPMG fined £3.4m over 'serious failures' in Rolls-Royce audit (The Guardian)
02APR20 KPMG UK fined £700,000 for railing to challenge client (The Irish Times)
20AUG18 - Sanctions against KPMG and Senior Statutory Auditor in relation to the audits of Ted Baker PLC (FRC.ORG.UK) (£3M fine)
