Manchester airport is well over an hour away from LBA. It’s 30 minutes to the m62 on a good day. Then you have to travel to and around Manchester….

The travel hub's bosses hope that the extension will create more than 5,000 new jobs both directly and indirectly, while putting almost a £1bn into the local economy.

Sadly todays alleged 'journalists' rarely question the figure. You however have.
The real trick is the "indirectly" bit - you create 10 new real jobs but then claim they'll degenerate a thousand "indirectly"

easyjet increasing frequency on its Belfast Int'l to Leeds route next summer 2024.
Increased from 4x to 6x weekly with additional Thursday & Saturday flights operating May to June
Monday service now operates year round (without its peak summer break)

Once the £100 million Terminal REGEN programme is completed in summer 2026 the capacity for LBA will be increased from the current 4.5 million to 7 million per year.

Ryanair going head to head with Wizz Air on yet another route. This time 3x Weekly Bucharest (Tue, Thu & Sat) from April
Also looks like Aer Lingus are giving easyJet a run for there money by increasing the Leeds -Belfast City route from 3x to 4x daily next summer.

Ryanair strike again this time Morroco as they have announced a. New route from Leeds to Marrakech for summer 2024.
Will be interesting to watch as Jet2 are also due to start once weekly service to Agadir from October 2024.

- The £100 million investments works has started with builders now on site of the new Terminal building extension. Once construction is completed works will then switch to regenerating the existing terminal. The LBA #REGEN project expected to be completed by late 2025 or early 2026. These plans also Includes works to construct an additional 10x aircraft parking stands.
- Starting this summer LBA has been designated a Level 3 slot coordinated airport night time only (2300-0700) by the Department for Transport, At all other times the airport will remain a level 2.
- Works also continue with the installation of the new generation Leidos CT scanners at security which are expected to be competed by start of the busy summer season.
- With funding in place It is hoped that the final business case for the planned Parkway Rail Station on the Leeds to Harrogate line should be approved by WYCA early this year with a planning application submitted to Leeds City Council later this summer..

- Ryanair have added 2 brand new routes to Marrakesh & Bucharest starting in May, The low cost airline will operate its biggest ever schedule from LBA this summer with 26 routes and up to 108 weekly departures using 3x based aircraft. 1x Boeing 737-MAX-8200 & 2x Boeing 737-800's
- We have 2 new Turkish operators operating Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft to Antalya. Sun Express will offer upto 3x weekly service & Southwind Airlines with a 1x weekly offering with tour operator Holiday Best.
- Aer Lingus Regional continues to grow by adding extra daily rotations on both its Dublin and Belfast City routes.
- Easyjet is increasing its Belfast Int'l route with up to 6x weekly flights.
- TUI have added a 4x weekly Palma departure on Sundays. TUI will operate up to 6x weekly w-legs into LBA this summer from Palma, Corfu & Dubrovnik.
- LBA's home-based operator Jet2 is a bit stagnant at the moment as they're currently limited to how much it can grow the operation due to lack of aircraft parking stand and the current terminal limitation's. But good news is that they have found room to introduce at least new route to Agadir late summer operating once weekly. The remaining 7x Boeing 737-300 aircraft fleet continues to be in operation at LBA this summer whilst an additional 10th Boeing 737-800 is being added to the base, but only 9 are required in daily operational use.

I see many Ryanair’s continue to divert away from LBA today whilst Jet2 are getting down. Same yesterday when the weather was worse.

I am not a pilot or connected with any airline apart from being SLF, but would have thought it was maybe down to knowing the airport and conditions as Jet 2 home base ? KLM pilots I have observed also seem to do well in windy conditions due to their experience at Schipol I assume. I am sure someone far more knowledgeable will confirm or put us right.

It's obviously possible that they have different limits and that as Jet 2 crews are likely to be permanently LBA based they're more familiar with the place's 'oddities'.
I suspect there's also a difference in operational philosophy. RYR will want an a/c on the ground at another base ASAP as it's been very noticeable that they're moving kit assignments around dynamically from minute to minute. Friend of mine was at LBA for Malaga during the pre Xmas wind. He was badly delayed because as/when aircraft got down they were allocated to flights scheduled for later than his.
A cynic, which he is, would say RYR were in the frame for delay/repay for his flight and the cost of keeping them hanging around was already fixed.
