Was going to mention MAN T1 + T3 as being in my undesirable list... but people on this website seem to take offence whenever MAN is criticised

I think the improvement to the terminal is very much needed.
I have used LBA quite a bit over the years and was last there in 2022. It remains a poor experience at peak times; long queues, struggling to find somewhere to sit and eat and very little in the way of glass to promote views and space. For that reason, if I can't go from Teesside, I will always chose NCL over LBA.

For balance, I was in NCL in the summer of peak afternoon departure and the experience was unusually pretty much the same, except you could see outside. The family ended up sitting on the floor to have a drink and sandwich whilst the echo of noise was like being in a swimming baths.

All that said, the departure point comes second to price and convenience and to contradict my points above, I have a future LBA booking planned for the simple reason Jet2 offered a daytime flight to the Canaries when NCL didn't....

Terminal investment is needed across the board really.....

The problem with LBA is, like MAN, inconsistency. Both airports can be an absolute nightmare whilst at other times they can be a breeze.

The problem they have is success - the passenger experience hasn't caught up with the numbers.

It's easy to have a lovely time in an empty terminal, but the choice of flights tends to be limited.

Landing - seen a couple of photos and doesn't look like much damage. Wet and windy, gusting 30knot crosswind.

Can anybody confirm if the Runway at LBIA is grooved, from the photos it does look like it could be susceptible to aquaplaning.
Mind you a 30kt cross wind wouldn’t help.

What’s the situation regarding operations?

Presumably closed and likely to be closed for some time?

Aircraft sent to East Midlands and Manchester whilst Teesside only an hours drive away received none.

N707ZS.. in all honesty, Manchester is just less than an hour away. I was trying to work out the timing from Teesside to LBA, probably over an hour. Just to make it clear I use Teesside and it is a great little airport.

Plus BHX and NCL also received diversions.

I note Ryanair has been quick to cancel their LBA flights this afternoon and evening, along with Aer Lingus, rather than operating to an alternate airport.

With the amount of aircraft having to divert from LBA, the majority of them are more than likely from Jet2 and TUI. Those two airlines have bases at both East Midlands and Manchester. And therefore it's not really surprising that Teesside has received none.

???

TUI only have W patterns into LBA on a few days a week, of which today's unfortunate arrival was one. No other TUI flights would be impacted by the closure until tomorrow lunchtime.
