LLAL accounts to March 31st 2020 are now out. Confirmed that under a force majeure clause, the airport operator hasn’t paid a penny to LLAL since March 2020. That under force majeure, LLAL has to actually pay compensation to LLAOL by a future reduction in the concession fee and a possible increase in the length of the concession.

That despite operating normally until the last couple of weeks in March 2020 and despite turnover increasing from £46.6m to £55m, LLAL made a loss of £3.3m after tax.

Now next year's report will make for an interesting read.

Just noticed EZY are doing x21 / week to FAO at moment, must be Luton's busiest route currently.

Was on the train to London yesterday and passed through Luton Airport Parkway, the glass front to the station housing the new MAGLEV service up to the airport was looking very impressive, with its glass fronted building!

Creates a great image for the airport and really will make a massive improvement to the connectivity to the railways.

It isn't MAGLEV. It's old school cable haulage.

It must be at least 3 weeks since a Dart train was operated with the diesel maintenance train seen working on the track. I thought LLAL denied there was any issues? The bridge has been unlit again for nearly 2 weeks. Wonder what colour it will be next time?

Nothing changes even when Luton still has low passenger figures

https://www.thesun.co.uk/travel/1589...-covid-flight/

If passengers didn’t catch Covid abroad there was always arrivals.

Don't see your point here, travel on the tube in London it is much the same in rush hour, after the Bank Holiday weekend when alot will return to work this will be common for commuters, we need to live with it now.

TUI's schedule for next year from the airport is shocking, just ten routes and one of those is Innsbruck which I would guess is only running during the winter. Not a single route to the Spanish mainland or Portugal!

Will there actually be a TUI aircraft based at the airport next year or will they all be operated from other bases doing W routes?

No disrespect to the regional airports, but airports like Norwich, Exeter and Bournemouth all have more routes with TUI than LTN. Maybe it is because the lack of low cost carriers at these locations, and loyal users of these regional airports would rather fly TUI, than travel several hours to another airport?

Also, I notice Sky-Up the Ukrainian airline has cancelled their route to Kiev, while it would have been hard to compete with Wizz Air, its a shame we have lost another carrier, before they even got started!

It is something that Border Force really need to get a grip of (that’s you, Priti, again). They won’t though. The welcome they offer you back home is the most charmless anywhere in the world and has been for many a year.

With regards to TUI, it's worth noting that they do sell holidays using easyJet flights and on that basis they do still offer a decent package holiday programme from LTN, including the destinations mentioned.

I know this is probably not the right forum to say it with any agreement, but I do think they'd be as well switching the single LTN based airframe to STN, which has two aircraft currently, but with the absence of easyJet their package holiday programme is far more reduced. I know there's the Jet2 factor there but TUI do compete directly with them elsewhere in the UK and I believe they could offer a more competitive package holiday programme all round if they consolidated their own flying programme to STN and just offered LTN using easyJet flights, as they do at LPL for instance.

To go up against RYR rather than EZY/WZZ? I thought the intent by TUI was to fly from your ‘local’ airport. I really don’t get what they don’t see in LTN with every other airline having a roaring success there?

TUI Edinburgh base to close Autumn 2022

If the LTN base was to close then I am sure that just as they did with Edinburgh, TUI would make a public announcement stating so. I am old school so prefer package holidays and personally I would like TUI to revert to a bigger operation from LTN. Time will tell…

TUI @ LTN

Its a fair point that TUI use easyJet for a large part of their flight programme out of Luton, but to me it still doesn't stack up. The airline and tour operator have their HQ and aircraft maintenance facilities in the town and to have almost a skeleton presence at that location makes little sense.

The airline has shown their commitment to remaining in the Luton area for their HQ, with them recently announcing they would be centralising a lot of their sister European airline ground operations in Luton.

easyJet also has a huge presence at Gatwick, Manchester and Bristol, and these TUI bases continue to go from strength to strength, so there is more to this than meets the eye.
